All of these silly Boeing vs Airbus comments are pointless. Can't anyone admit that both companies make great products and that the competition to innovate between the two of them is healthy for the aerospace industry?
It's like photographers making the Canon vs Nikon argument ... I don;t think either company would be innovating at the current rate if the other did not exist.
I love the 747. Always have, always will. The 747 is huge, but it looks fast and elegant unlike the other company's new plane. When people think of air travel, the 747 is the image that pops into their head, not any of the Airbus planes. Airbus does make great stuff, but they will always be behind Boeing in terms of product recognition. Even the Taliban can vouch for this. They were bombed by many recognizable Boeing products.
I don't know why airbus build such a huge airplane (A380) that only a few airports around the globe can accomodate the plane. Boeing 747-8 GE engines and 787-8 Rolls Royce engines are the most efficient planes the world ever seen..
747-8 is a cheap and boring replacement for the classic 747-400 series in my mind's eye. Boeing did not want to invest in an all new 747 replacement as it was seen too risky a business venture. I applaud Airbus once again for taking the risk and pushing the envelope in terms of innovation and design. I think Airbus have pushed aviation 20 years into the future whereas Boeing is still tinkering with a 1960's old rusted antique 747 design.
@fachy1981 You can't talk crap about the Legendary 747! All airports around the world still use this "OLD RUSTED ANTIQUE DESIGN" because it's very efficient and still usable for commercial service. Oh! so what if Airbus is pushing the envelope, I've seen better looking planes than that ugly fat ass A380! That 747 is an ICON and it always will be!
@platinum476 Boeing is now 10 years behind Airbus. Airlines that use the 747-400 will be looking to upgrade in the near future and it seems that A380 is the more popular choice. Airlines don't just want another 747 derivative. They want a completely new airliner.
Now with the delays of 787, it seems A350 will enter the market 2-3 years after 787 which should make for an interesting market. A350 can also take advantage of building second making A350 with slightly better technologies than 787.
@fachy1981 Ahh not worry! Boeing will make a comeback, they always do! Remember Boeing has been in the game for 84 years coming up with better ideas for the future of air travel and my friend their doing very well like always, now that the 747-8 is using GE's new engine the GEnx-2b! And that is exactly what Boeing is doing making a completely new airliner!
@platinum476 Indeed Boeing has 84 years of selling aircraft, but the problem is will they succeed to sell enough 747 for breaking even. Most of the airlines comment for 747 space issues while A380 provide more space and configuration. Furthermore airlines which operate A380 do have huge profit during snowstorm because they are operate under full capacity.
It's 747-8 (not called an 800) ... and the Airbus A380 is a piece of French crap like the rest of the defective & inferior garbage coming out of Airbus. If it's not BOEING ... I'm not going.

No, but they are: Cargolux Nippon Cargo Airlines Atlas Air Emirates SkyCargo Guggenheim Aviation Partners Lufthansa Korean Air Cargo Nippon Cargo Airlines Volga-Dnepr Cargolux Cathay Pacific Airways Dubai Aerospace Enterprise Arik Air
A longer upper deck on the freighter would be a liability: more weight, non-useable space. CargoLux is the launch customer for the freighter. The engines are Dreamliner GenX engines with a smaller fan.
Wow she is a gorgeous looking bird. Better than that fugly A380! Can't wait to see the 747-8 InterContinental though. Also I wonder when emirates are going to notice the front end of one of their 777's is missing lol. ;)
I think Boeing is # 1 in the airplane game just look at 747-8 great job, but with moving the HQ to the Midwest and the Charleston S.C. deal, Boeing has turned their backs on the Northwest and the Great people that have made this company what it is today. Boeing what's really going on ?
Beautiful plane, although the 8I will be nicer looking with the longer hump. I've never liked the short hump on the 747 and it looks even shorter with the longer fuselage.
yes!!.. its finally here!!.. ive been waiting for it... The 747-8 will be the world's longest passenger airliner, surpassing the Airbus A340-600 by 3.6 ft. the 747-8 is 76.3 meters long!!... from what ive gathered; this plane is obviously longer than the 744, powered by 4 massive GEnx-2B engines, fitted with the new blended winglets..n to me the wings showed a higher angle of placement to the fuselage.. n one more thing:.the aircraft is gona create more wingflex that the predecessors.. lovely

A longer upper deck on the freighter would be a liability: more weight, non-useable space. CargoLux is the launch customer for the freighter. The engines are Dreamliner GenX engines with a smaller fan.

B747-8 fan of enigine is 105 in. and B787 is 111 in. because needed small to powered B747 four engines

She is a beautiful machine. Look how long it takes to get out of the paint hangar!
Love the paint with the extra big 8 for an
extra big jet airliner. Job well done.
Let's see her fly like the wind.

Boeing what's really going on ?

ya this is the freighter.. the intercontinental should have the longer hump.. waiting for tat :):)
tyd1231 2 years ago
Beautiful plane, although the 8I will be nicer looking with the longer hump. I've never liked the short hump on the 747 and it looks even shorter with the longer fuselage.

yes!!.. its finally here!!.. ive been waiting for it... The 747-8 will be the world's longest passenger airliner, surpassing the Airbus A340-600 by 3.6 ft. the 747-8 is 76.3 meters long!!... from what ive gathered; this plane is obviously longer than the 744, powered by 4 massive GEnx-2B engines, fitted with the new blended winglets..n to me the wings showed a higher angle of placement to the fuselage.. n one more thing:.the aircraft is gona create more wingflex that the predecessors.. lovely
tyd1231 2 years ago
has to be the best looking airliner out there. kicks the a380's butt for sure

I love how they incorporated that 8 on the tail
sabian404 2 years ago
That's right !!
I did not notice until you say it :D
Thanks !!!
sealalula 2 years ago
That is the most shiny plane I ever seen.
Look at the engine , It's so shiny !!!
sealalula 2 years ago
theres no winglets on the 748 why?
thats what makes the plane? :)
oneofthemdeals 2 years ago
It's got raked wingtips
sabian404 2 years ago 2
raked wingtips just liek the 787 and 777-300er 777-200lr
ArmyofSeaturtles 2 years ago
@oneofthemdeals
quick rule of thumb:
short range - no winglets or raked tips
Medium/long range - winglets
Ultra long haul - Raked wingtips
its all about drag penalties vs efficiency and the distances at witch these trade offs intersect.
