@zodiak3000 I've heard similar comments, but have not experienced any problems myself. I use a muslin bag over the end of the autosiphon, I think the muslin is just "coarse" enough that it doesn't cause problems. I think a hop bag (fine mesh) would cause problems for sure. I've heard of brewers putting the bag on the receiving end (in the keg) but I'd be extra careful so you don't loose that stuff in the keg. If I use pellets I put them in a muslin bag in the carboy by itself.
I might also add this tidbit - for any of you who don't use whole hops - the muslin bag attachment when siphoning is a great idea, but I've had clogging issues when the bag is on the siphon end, esp. when I've used pellet hops.
As a solution, I rubber band the bag to the end of the hose and leave a little bag space to catch some of the hops that get sucked through the siphon. I haven't had any issues with this process and it goes to show you that you don't always have to use whole hops.
@saiyajingabe Great idea, I may try that just to see how well it works on my next batch. I usually use whole hops and usually don't even bother with the filter unless I see obvious keg clogging debris. After suffering a few clogged dip tubes I am more conscious of things that will potentially cause headaches in the keg, and the filter is nice piece of mind.
Cool. Also, if you're dead set on dryhopping in the keg rather than in the fermenter, you could always use a stainless steel mesh ball with whole hops to dry hop - that way you don't run the risk of getting hops in the dip tube or (if you used a muslin bag) getting the bag caught either.
I'm going to be making a Two-hearted (dry-hopped) clone soon and I'm going to see about getting one of those SS mesh balls for a keg hop.
@Shameful26 that is a lot of hops, sounds like it'll be a nice complex hop flavor....I haven't had much luck with Simcoe myself, seems like when I use it I have to age the beer a long time to get the pine to mellow out a bit
@immolateus as i stated on your DH vid, i don't use muslin....
i dry hop with whole hops only, i cut a bottom corner off a fine mesh grains bag and use it with a food grade rubber band (sanitize both) on my auto siphon, rubber band 1" above the auto siphon cup. i never get any hops in to my keg/bottle, works great and is easy set up.
Had to re-upload the vid...so the old comments don't appear
I did write them down so I'll post them below.....Please comment. Cheers!
nice....... cut the bag smaller, so it won't soak up your beer.. lol

What perfect timing. I'm dry hopping for the first time today. Thanks for both the videos you put up today... and all the others. I really enjoy the all grain videos you record from beginning to end. Cheers man!
Ive heard this method can cause clogging issues with pellets. Have you had any problems?
