I wonder if it is possible to mo-cap with this software. Recording the movements of when the guy was highlighted in pink and dropping them onto a different model would make life so much easier. Is this a viable solution for a budget mo-cap rig? Because real mo-cap can get expensive real fast.
@marcinan Yup, already being used as a low budget mo-cap solution for independent developers. I saw it used for mo-cap in a low budget animated web series is well though I can't remember the name of it.
@kapewaken I think thats the point, these guys just make the tech, it's up to game designers to work out how to utilise it. Two completely different fields there.
Amazing! im an architect and this needs to be in my tool bag. Regarding the last part of the video, where the gentleman is painting the model in the real and the virtual world at the same time. Wicked! Microsoft should make glasses that allows the user to see what kinect sees - at 1:1 speed. If they create this then add some autodesk sketchbook pro tools that i can use while moving around the real space, WE ARE IN BUSINESS... not to mention all of the role and job changes that will take place
This is all very exciting, and I say that without reservation, but I'll buy a Kinect when this sort of thing is used intelligently in a game and not before.
Imagine thousands of these set up around a football arena capturing every moment, broadcasters would be able to move the virtual camera in and around players for every angle, getting their facial reactions and perfect viewpoints of plays. This will literally change the future of media.
It's only HQ when we have agreed upon what that means, in a sense the 3D does improve, but that is with the pc, doing God knows how many calculations, the hardware in the kinect isn't high quality, but it's okay. Let's agree on something here, in order for this to be even something to talk about, it needs to be improved in the hardware part, not only forcing software to decode poor feedback from a broken down machine. Lag is a big deal, Kinect isn't kind about it either.
@philnolan3d It's a jab at Sony Playstation's Move.... meaning it's their turn to 1-up this. You know, because they're in competition against each other? Kinect vs Move. I thought I was pretty clear.
@RelinquishLove I know it was intended for that purpose, but I really think this has more potential for 3D artists than anything else, therefore Sony is not really involved unless you mean for the artists that work at the Sony owned studios.
I am pretty much in awe right now. That really is amazing. And as someone who has dabbled in 3d animation, I know how amazing that is. The possibilities are seriously endless. Keep it up guys!
It's finally starting to happen! We need to mount the camera on the persons head and use VR glasses, or maybe the next kinect will be a kinect inside VR glasses :]
This is what I'm looking for. We can change the world!
Hey! I've been looking for a good 3D scanning solution using Kinect for a while now! I tried "Kinect RGB Demo" and "Kinect RGBDSLAM" and this looks far more advanced and robust than any of those! Are you guys planning on releasing more information, and/or source? I would love to play with all of this! Especially scene surface reconstruction. Thanks!
OMFG!!! Now kinect can see an environment, reproduce it, and interact with it, also detecting it's own movement visually!!!! This has so many applications! I'm a hardcore gamer and didn't gave a fuck about kinect, but if MS implement this maybe in the next generation xbox, they'll get my money. Just think about the potential of this.
now if they would put an HD Camera on the damned thing
