I agree with IronEddie but The problem lies within marketing. Pearl Jam is one of my favorite bands. personally i put them up there with the likes of Led Zep and skynyrd. You will be hard pressed to find many bad songs from any of the three bands. Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Sound Garden and Alice in Chains in the early 1990's (popularity wise) were what the Beiber and GaGa's are today. The talent isn't even close. Pearl Jam was pure talent. The "talent" today consist of synthesised voices. Weird!

I love Pearl Jam in all shapes and forms. I personally don't see how you can view this as anything other than genius... The music, the lyrics, the emotions... They all blend perfectly. Is backspacer drastically different than pretty much all their other albums? Yes. Does that make it bad? No. You're entitled to your opinion... but PJ did right by this album. That's for damn sure.

I love all of Pearl Jams past and current songs. The newest CD "Backspacer" has a few songs on it like "Just Breath" and "The End" that are lovely but dark. Actually, Temple of the Dog was not Pearl Jam, it consisted of Jeff Ament, Mike McCready, and Stone Gossard of Pearl Jam, but singing was Chris Cornell and Matt Cameron of Soundgarden. The project was put together as a tribute for the singer of Mother Love Bone. Temple of the Dog came along after Pearl Jam had already released "Ten".

Bands change, bands grow older, just as people do, and they see things differently than they did when they were in their early 20s. This song sounds influenced by Eddie's work on the Into the Wild soundtrack. If people have been following Eddie's lyrics a long time, they'll realize that he's often got into the head of someone else when writing songs.
