Nice Work!!! But please make it better than the editor on the Computer because I don't like this Editor. You could try to make it like the NSMBWii Editor: Reggie
(continued from last comment) the NSMB Rom is 32 MB but only 17 mb are used), put the file data there, and change the file table to point there. It is quite efficient. You'll have a NDS rom in your flashcart, and the editor will edit it, using DLDI. To test it you'll probably have to reset your DS and boot the edited rom. A workaround for this would be to hack nsmb to load the editor without having to reboot the ds, but i'm not sure how doable it is.
@TheHorrorKing1 You will need a flashcart. Then you'll have 2 rom's in it: the editor and the game. When you open the editor, it will edit the NSMB rom. When you open the NSMB rom, you'll play the edited levels...
well... It doesn't have to be slow. Level editing will be, obviously, slower than on the computer version of the editor, because the DS is not as flexible as a computer: smaller screen, no keyboard, etc...
As for the rom editing and patching, it is perfectly doable. NDS Rom's have a filesystem inside, which can be edited very efficiently. To replace a file, you find an empty space in the ROM (there's plenty:
Can you enlighten me on how this will work? Because let's face it, VIEWING levels and actually editing them PLUS patching a rom are more different than the sun and moon. If this does work, I'm sure it will be agonizingly slow.
This would need a scroll button and a drop-down menu of some sort... Level exporting would be quite handy. I figure you have already considered what is possible, though. Good luck, I believe this will do well in future.
Here is a suggestion: wouldn't it work best if the level is moved around with the d-pad and the touch screen is used to select objects and the screens can be swaped around
