How did Duncan get a quicking if the guys head came off from the boat roders? That happend in another episide with richie, a train killed an immortal and took his head off without richie taking it off with a sword...

in fact, Immortals can detect pre-Immortals. Duncan knew that Richie is one of them. Check the episode Rite of Passage - Michelle Webster was anothe pre-Immortal Duncan was looking after.

I admit, Hulu has more ad variety it seems, and wouldnt mind youtube getting better about that, but youtube has a bigger viewing screen for pop-out window

In both situations, Duncan and Ritche were the closest immortal to the recently beheaded immortal, therefore the Quickening went to them.
