There are swstikas flanking the stage. Great conductor or not, this was a nazi concert. pupulique, Beethoven would have been disgusted by everything that was going on in Germany in 1942. He would have been horrified to have his music associated with such racists. Despite the poor musicians who were forced to go along with the hatred, there were plenty who went along with it wholeheartedly. Seeing Furtwangler shake gooebels' hand sickens me. Hearing Beethoven 9 in facist style hurts my heart.
Sad and ironic that the country who gave us some of the greatest musical genius of all time, Germany [and include Austria for Haydn, Mozart, Schubert, Bruckner, Mahler and Schoenberg, as part of German culture] like Bach, Beethoven [and lived in Vienna, Austria like Brahms], Wagner and Brahms ended up in a destructive nightmare with the Nazis. Beethoven would have covered his face in shame1 I don't blame him.
***************************************************** I (german) think they were Nazis!!!! - they played for Nazis - got payed by Nazis - lifed with Nazis - let them do whatever they wanted to do - payed taxes for Nazis - and and and ..... just like the people of today!!!! we all support the destruction of this (not our) planet! (But we want to save it?) we belief in a god for us - but not in a god for others??? or for dogs?? what about cat´s and kien???? We Are All Still Supid Nazis!!!!!
The irony of this is that the "Ode to Joy" is the antithesis of everything about the Nazi philosophy. Something by Wagner would have been more appropriate for Hitler.
Please do not call these performers nazis. They had to play under very hard circumstances and Wilhelm Furtwängler managed to save a few people's lives. After the war, the Western allies ranked him as a "nazi supporter" only because he remained in his home country. Had he fled, several more of his musicians would have been killed in camps, most likely. Furtwängler remains one of the greatest artists of the mankind.
one day the the world will see the truth about world war 1&2. Maybe after world war 3 when americans are framed like the nazis.Free palestine before its too late!!!
Beethoven would punch you after seeing this disgusting title and stupid description. To call one of the greatest conductors of all time and the genius interpreter of Beethoven a nazi is a dirty provoсation or an act of an irresponsible immature.
nazis kill 6 milion jews. meenz 6 milion less jew to keep down the black man in amerika.
