Tough question man. Hogan made the wrestling industry (Andre the Giant as well) Bret Hart, Stone Cold, and John Cena are all different faces that WWE had turned to, Ric Flair is the greatest winner in Wrestling and it has been Taker and HBK that has been the glue for the WWE in 20 years. Actually that doesn't really answer your question but I will say Hogan in the 80's. Nothing can compare his fan base, people who never knew about wrestling heard of the name Hulk Hogan.

Hogan's popularity is what made Wrestlemania a success. Hogan put wrestling out there to the mainstream in the 80's. In 1996, Hogan once again helped bring wrestling to a new level with the whole nWo angle, leading to the attitude era, etc. His last run with WWE brought on bigger pops than HHH or Shawn or Taker.
