  • I dont get the cowboy riddle. Please explain?

  • @NazcarFanatic24

He did it all on Sunday. The horse's name is Sunday.

  • 2 plot holes in this scene. 1st. Why didnt zeus vouch for john, they were together the whole day and on the boat, and 2nd Zues didnt have kids, those kids in the movie were his nephews.

  • Awesome ending! It would have made the sequels even more interesting

  • It's a great scene but I think it would have worked better in a different movie. McClane is TOO CLEAN here!

  • This scene would have only worked if Zeus was killed by him. Then there's enough motive to go to this length.

  • Too sick!

  • i acctually like this ending more its dark lol

  • Comment removed

  • To the nerds: "In the DVD audio commentary, screenwriter Jonathan Hensleigh claims that this version was dropped because the studio thought it showed a more cruel and menacing side to McClane, a man who killed for revenge rather than in self-defense."

  • Comment removed

  • Can I get a Director's Cut with this Ending restored? I prefer it more.

  • that ending is great but I wonder why they left it out

  • @lilze96 because the asshores in Hollywood thought it was too dark for McClain to seek revenge.

  • so they actually filmed it, wikpedia said they didn't

  • @TBStudios91 wikipedia said that "unlike the rocket launcher sequence, [the draft for the second alternate ending with mclane and zues sending back the water jug bomb] was never actually filmed" at least that what it says now

  • This ending and the theatrical ending are both mediocre. The theatrical ending felt like it was just rushed at the last minute, and this one feels less Die Hard. I love the film, but the ending was never truly satisfying.

  • this would of been a good ending,it would aof shows a more sadistic side of Mcclaine and It would of left it off in another direction when a sequel would be made

  • You can find that alternate ending on the special edition DVD.

  • Simon! Why do I have to keep watching you die!?

  • What movie is this ?

  • @tuniturntablist Die Hard With A Vengeance

  • Comment removed

  • @tuniturntablist It even says on the title DIE HARD WITH A VENGEANCE and also I have watched it

  • @someguy120100 Oh ok , this must be a different version then , because the ending was totally different when I watched the movie :)

  • @tuniturntablist It says Alternate Ending in the title

  • @someguy120100 Yeah I know ... any clue where to get this version ?

  • @tuniturntablist nope

  • i remember reading the novel to this for a book report there in the late 90s, and this was the ending of the book, and I thought wow... that's INTENSE.

  • I don't get the one where the two robbers and the father and the son and the husband and wife and stuff.. Could somebody please explain this to me?

  • @Cemente25 he said something like one of the two robbers was the father of the other ones son so that makes both of the robbers having the same kid (husband and wife)

  • @ASKaPHYSICIST OH man, you are funny ha ha ha ha.. you really have low standards.

Just take your medication and try not to take everything so seriously.

  • Good to see Simon was putting his stolen money to use drinking Louis XIIV

  • LOl, Im happy they took this out. though it is a cool little scene !

  • Cool scene...but I don't think it would've worked. Would've been great in a different movie.

  • Wow I like this ending. Jack Bauer has committed cold blooded murders before so why not Mcclane

  • I didn't like the idea of this ending.

Until I saw the new Die Hard. I kinda figured that if it had went down like this there wouldn't have been a sequel.

  • Actually i read somewhere that it apprears on a special edition/release of the DVD:D

  • This is worlds better than the movies original.

  • this is the worst alternate ending I've seen in my life. Can't be any worse than that. It's good that they didn't fuck up the movie. whew!

  • This is a better ending then the one in teh movie..

  • I know I'll get an earful for this, but kinda diggin this ending more than the theatrical

  • @mreeping *PUNCH* xP

  • Good thinking by adding this alternate end, cause' my man u just saved me $40. Yep, that's how much DHWAV Special edition goes for. Out of print.

  • wtf, it's not McClane

how come they even came to that idea?

  • holy shit! Thanks for posting this!!!

  • Answers to the riddle.

    1. You dont bury the living.

    2. Sunday is the horse name

    3. husband/wife. the husband is younger than the wife. Its really that simple

    4. Flak Jacket. But even if he answered it right he still lose because McClane never said "McClane says" for 4th question like the movie.

  • @spike378 cuz it was the bonus round haha

  • What was the wrong answer Simon said about the Brandy? I couldnt understand it.

  • @mblizzle09 the whiskey want poisend. The good guy brought a bomb and the only way for the bad guy to survive would have been to wear explosion safe clothing, just like the one mclane was wearing when the rocket launcher fired both ways.

  • @ASKaPHYSICIST mmm.... but.. where's McClane's helmet and eye protection? And he had a "flak jacket" (that's what he said), but those are not designed to survive close range explosions, shock-waves, or direct impacts. Also that weapon had slow muzzle velocity, the rocket was supposed to hit Simon's chest and blow with everything in front of him, McClane included, instead of going through like a glowing high-speed-bullet.

But you are a physicist, you are supposed to know all that stuff.

  • @PopMusic1985 @PopMusic1985 A rocket doesn't have to carry large amounts (or even any) explosives. It's defined by the fact that it's self-propelled. As a physicist I know that. But I understand your confusion.

Of course, chances are, McLane just put an explosive in the middle and filled the tube with shrapnel and just told him it's a 'Chinese rocket launcher'.

Really though, you don't have to be a physicist to get the point.

  • @ASKaPHYSICIST See now you are making stuff up. Definitely it wasn't shrapnel, it was a rocket (confirmed by the script writer): there is propellant smoke trail, and a small blast in the wall after (unrealistically) going through Simon. And even without explosion, still McLane didn't have any head protection to survive the launcher's rear flash and blast without injuries. All soldiers are warned not to stand behind a rocket launcher due to the dangers: that's a fact, and there is no confusion.

  • @PopMusic1985 'confirmed by the script writer' where?

  • Comment removed

  • @ASKaPHYSICIST Get the DVD, the writer explains his concept was that McClane was wearing a flak jacket to survive the rocket (not realistic, but whatever). He never mentioned replacing the rocket.

Play the DVD in slow motion, or watch the scene here, at about 5:36 Simon pressed the trigger; 5:37 the rocket goes through Simon; 5:38 the rocket explodes behind Simon; 5:39 McClane survives without a bomb squad helmet (not even a scratch or burns on him.) It was a rocket: that's a fact.

  • @PopMusic1985 @ASKaPHYSICIST

Who gives a shit it's a movie, a good movie too.

Just fucking watch it and enjoy it.

It's not supposed to make sense, just look at twilight or some shit like that.

  • @ASKaPHYSICIST In the special DVD edtion.. okay?

  • @PopMusic1985 yea, but the whole movie took some liberties with realism so why not the (alternate enging)?

  • @mblizzle09 The brandy's antidote.

  • DH: Man Falling out of a Building

    DH2: Plane Exploding

DH3: Talking in a Bar... no wait, Helicopter Showdown

yeh, the other ending was the better choice. Although seeing this is still cool.

  • Merci de le poster avec la version française, ça fait plaisir !!!!

    :D

    John McClane t'es le meilleur

  • What a STUPID ending. No wonder it wasn't used.

  • i love when that happens in films when the good guy and bad guy sit and talk about random bullshit remaining civil for a few minutes

  • what a crap ending this would've been

  • Umm . . .did anyone get any one of McClane's riddles?????

    I'm FUCKING STUMPED!!

  • YIPPIE KAI YA MOTHERFUCKER!

  • Not surprised this hit the cutting room floor, it just feels out of place and out of character.

  • I'm glad they didnt go with this ending, it doesnt fit McClane's character.

  • he forgot to say mcClane says at the end

  • thank god they did not put this in!

  • In the DVD audio commentary, screenwriter Jonathan Hensleigh claims that this version was dropped because the studio thought it showed a more cruel and menacing side to McClane, a man who killed for revenge rather than in self-defense. Hensleigh's intention was to show that the events in New York and the subsequent repercussions had tilted him psychologically.

  • Simon is supposed to be german, right? When he shouts at those service girls, that's definitly no german at all (i'm german, believe me)... maybe some fantasy language?

  • @breisgaubrasilianer It is supposed to be Hungarian (as he is with Targo's crew). But, anyway, it has very little in common with hungarian language.

  • @breisgaubrasilianer It IS Hungarian. Believe me. I am Hungarian. There are some words I can't recognise because of the accent (the accent is a little bit funny:)), but it isn't a fantasy language.

The waitress says: "Kávé, uram." which means: "Coffee, sir."

Simon (Jeremy Irons) : "Nagyon kedves, köszönöm." which means: "Very nice, thank you."

When he shouts he must say something like: "Pincér! ??? el. ??? el. Rögtön! ???". It means exactly: "Waitresses! Go away! Get the hell outa here!"

  • @racemise

  • @breisgaubrasilianer

Actually what's funny is if you turn on the English subtitles in the German version of Die Hard 1, the dialogue translates to like 'Cat! Dog dog dog! Cat cat!'. They just chose German sounding words since they knew the audience would never know.

  • wathe sunday thing he says i cant understand

  • @armageddon9999 It was a riddle about a man riding 18 hours into town on Sunday and riding 18 hours out of town on Sunday.....sound impossible but the horse's name is Sunday.

  • This was fucking awesome, why the hell didn't they put this in? Yeah it was a little dark but McClane actually had Simon off his game and nervous.

  • "bad motherfucker" I loved this series along with the Lethal Weapon, Alien, Terminator and short lived Bad Boys series. They don't make them like they use too...well, maybe if Transformers nail pt 3. One was good, part 2 went down somewhat, so I hope they nail part 3.

  • @MzSunnyJeep I really hope you didn't just compare Trans-fucking-formers to some of the best action series of all time.

  • @fivepoint0008 In my opinion, being I grew up with the original transformers cartoon, I hope the new one is good because the second one was not good. So, with those bookends at least, again in my opinion it would be good if it continues getting back to basics. I don't know how much anyone else liked it,but it will be a nice series tome....it is no where near as good as other movies series though, I would never claim that.

  • that ending was awesome!

  • I'm sorry that seemed too dark for McClane. Yeah he's tough and he has been pretty brutal in a fight, but that was a bit too much. But otherwise the scene itself is pretty cool and cleverly written.

  • on the last question he didnt say " mcclaine says "

  • Great ending but what would have been poetic justice would be that Zeus and John would capture simon and put him in the middle of harlem with the sign that mclane wore in the beginning

  • the best end ever!!!!!!!!!!!

  • as cool as this ending is, i think this is way out of character for john mcclane...

  • ?????????????????????????

  • wouldn't the blowback (fireball that comes out of the back) kill him too?

  • Badass ending. You know, they dropped this ending down because it couldn't open a possibility for a sequel, hence another opportunity to make big bucks at the box office.

  • Thanks for posting this, this alternate ending is cool. I'm just curious where did you get this because it's not on the dvd, at least I don't think it is. I know they make an 8 disc set called the ultimate collection where you get all 4 movies plus a bonus disc per movie. Now I own the collection where you get the 3 movies and one bonus disc and this is not in that set. Please does anyone because i would like to own this.

  • @TisLiberte: I can't quite say where it came from, but it is quite a find :)

  • @quikboy2: haha .. wannabe insider... 2 Disc Special Edtion.. all i can say there

  • @quikboy2

It can be found on the Special Edition DVD

  • @quikboy2 your a dickhead its off the dvd

  • @TisLiberte, I know for a fact that this scene is on the original 2 disc release of DH 3, it's a silver double-wide looking case.

  • @TisLiberte Its on the 2 Disc Special Edition of Die Hard 3 ... that dvd version is nice anyway.. dvd commentary from McTiernan, lots of making of stuff etc..

  • @TisLiberte

    special edition DVD

  • @TisLiberte It is. Do you have the "all 3 die hard movies in one pack" pack. Make sure you put disc 2 of the third movie in because it has all special features. And it will be there.

  • @TisLiberte I read on Wikipedia that it's on the Special Edition DVD or something.

  • @TisLiberte I have it in the Die Hard WAV 2 Disc Remastered collectors edition.

  • @TisLiberte this is on the special edition DVD :D

  • I'm glad this wasn't the real ending. McClane has been sacked from the NYPD, if he was sacked from the NYPD there wouldn't have been Die Hard 4.0 (Which I enjoyed) and the ending doesn't really match up to the other films endings (Hans falling, Plane exploding, Gun shot to bad guy through bullet wound) this ending is dull and boring. Atleast Yippee Ki Yay Motherfucker was in this ending :)

  • I can see why they removed this. I like some aspects of the character development, but it's boring as truck.

  • Well-acted, well-scripted. It just doesn't sit well I guess.

  • This was the better ending , not the theatrical one .... MacClane is an outcast . An anti-hero , a symbol like snake plissken of liberal america . He smokes , he drinks hard ,he swears .And above everything else he loves to fuck with every jerkass relying on his sole legal authority to enforce decision . He's not the brighest bulb in the box but he has good instinct and always rises to the occasion. That what's make us root for him . Getting him sacked of the police would have been logical .

  • I would've thought that both would get killed by fireing a grenade launcher like that. The one that gets hit by the grenade would obviously die but wouldn't the other by the exaust bit?? and wouldn't the grenade explode killing both of them?? I know John was wearing the jacket, i'm just seeing it from Simon's perspective.

  • @Weeble68 yeah the whole rocket launcher thing was kinda shaky, i think McClane should have done a Princess' Bride kinda thing and used poison which he built an immunity too lol

  • To those who did not understand the "right answer" to the bonus question, it was "Flak Jacket."

  • @RadHunterXD no ur wrong

  • @spike378 Dude. Listen again to his part of the dialogue please and this time with your volume to the MAX. McClane clearly says, "He forgot his flak jacket, that's what he forgot. Yippie ki yay mother fucker...."

  • @RadHunterXD haha I guess you never play simon says as a kid. Feel sry for you. To make it more obvious, mcclane didnt say "McClane says" so the any answers will be wrong.

  • @spike378 Kudos to you.

  • I still don't get the 3rd riddle McClane asks...the one about the 2 suspects being husband and wife...can someone please explain it

  • @mandingasexlove Two suspects the youngest one "The father of the other's son" (The other was his wife, they had a son) Hope this helped. I had to listen to it a couple of times cuz Bruce mumbles it and fast!

  • Ironically, he did become a villain after this: Die Hard 4: The Whole Nine Yards.

  • I don't get it did? Why did John play that game when there was a 50/50 chance of death. Did he rig the rocket launcher or something?

  • @homeskilletbiscuit49 He's wearing a Flak Jacket

  • @MaxSlug oh ok that makes sense now

  • @homeskilletbiscuit49 No! he was wearing a Flak jacket (Bomb proof) he said so. It was the thing that he said simon had forgotten.

  • yeah, long, but kind a cool in a 007 way.

  • I'm happy they've taken the other ending. This one is boooring. It's kinda weird, but, hey, it's fucking John Mc Clane, HE has to kill the badguy, not the badguy himself :-D

  • This was a weird ending

  • WAY out of character for McClane to commit cold blood murder. It was also lame that he was fired from police.

Also it was lame to state that McClane traced the bottle of aspiring: why Simon would go back to his previous known neighborhood and/or keep using his real name after stealing thousands of Millions in gold?

  • @kirk85kirk because maybe, just fucking maybe, the location wasn't known?

    you fucking retard.

  • @Jackalofdeath you are very retarded and you can't read: McClane got that bottle of pills in Simon's ship in NY, and now he claims he traced the batch number to a pharmacy "right down the street", so after all that time Simon is still living in the same block in which he was living before going to NY even when everybody is looking for him and he didn't even bother to change his appearance.

And "you fucking retard" show respect and stop acting like child if you want to be respected.

  • @kirk85kirk

But he didn't commit cold blooded murder, Simon pulled the trigger on the bazooka himself!

  • @ASKaPHYSICIST

McClane had a gun and he made it very clear that he would shoot Simon if he cheats; so turning the launcher side-ways was NOT an option. That make it murder from the legal point of view.

The real McClane was not a sour-loser or some psycho murderer. In all the Die Hard movies he has always been portrayed as an "honest cop."

And the whole scene was very unrealistic, at that distance the explosion was supposed to be a lot more violent and BOTH were supposed to die.

  • @ASKaPHYSICIST "You can turn this where ever you want" little kid

The guys in the plane were armed, not giving up, and they refused to turn on the airport's computers so he could safe his wife and all the other people in the planes, when McClane burned their plane he created the lighting all the planes needed to land safety, he has no choice but to burn that plane, SO the that fits well within his character.

Next time pay more attention before you spill your idiocy all over the place, kid.

  • @ASKaPHYSICIST I don't agree with you, the guys in the plane were about to kill a bunch of innocent people while escaping, including McClane's wife, and that was a legal justification for McClane to kill them. On the other hand Simon was unarmed, had nowhere to run, and nobody else was in danger.

And it's not cool that you take it personal insulting people that doesn't agree with your "opinion." It's just a movie, man.

  • @ASKaPHYSICIST Wow so you must be like what? 10 years old? What about growing up? You just use insults because you have no intelligent arguments.

Do you realize you are acting like a psycho over a movie? I'm going to make some screen capture of your psychotic comments and rants to show everyone what's the real "science guys."

  • @kirk85kirk It was a small explosive device...there were explosive devices that could have done that. And in terms of McClane being an honest cop...does the whole 'honest cop' genre work for 5 or 6 films? No because people get bored of it. I reckon this kind of ending would have been brilliant because it would have shown more depth in McClane as a character and would have opened him up as someone else. Of course everyone has there opinions so I respect your opinion.

  • Yipi-Ki-A-Motherfucker.

  • reason people not to kean on this ending cus theres no 'Di hard' music...i gurantee if that was added..they would like thuis ending better..it shows us a diff side to john..i like this ending better

  • there's one big mistake in this scene, mcclane would have been killed by the backblast of the launcher

  • Interesting,but a tad long. Definately a more menacing J.Mc

  • those are the best bad guys, ones that you make small talk with... then you kill them

  • I can see why they edited this out, but it still is an awsome ending to an awsome movie.

  • Jeremy Irons kicks ass. Such class even as a villian you want him to win!

  • could someone please explain to me the robbery riddle? I don't understand how they arrived at that answer.

  • @warblerab

Riddle: 3 years ago I busted two robbers, the youngest was the father of the other ones son (the other robber's son).

The two robbers were a husband and wife couple where the husband is younger than the wife.

  • Thank God, they left out this ending.

    McClane is not The Joker....!

  • @Waqorat

The setup is great. The final line sucks. Flak jacket? Painfully old.

Probably a leftover from Jonathan Hensleigh's original script, Simon Says.

  • fucking sick ending like it more then the original

  • DHwaV was the only "Die Hard" I could watch. Just because of the bad guy...

  • The answer is flak jacket its kinda hard to hear

  • Ah, what was the right fucking answer? It's tormenting me! I didn't get the bank robbery suspects riddle either.

  • I am glad this wasn't the ending to the Die Hard 3 film. It was kinda boring tbh lol

  • What does Simon say for his last answer? Something to do with the brandy?

  • @WYJAFAK2 the antidote for the poison in the brandy.

  • @mayhem: Well, first of all, who the hell do you think you are to criticize me like that? Second, here's what I meant. I mean that the yippee ki ay motherfucker line is the most memorable line from the first three movies. Yes, they had it in DH4, but they cut it off. I know that they were trying to make a die hard film that was more family friendly, but Look at Robocop 3. They toned it down, and it sucked. DH4 doesn't suck, but it's not the same without that famous line.

  • @Sutidude It wasn't meant to be more family friendly family firendly is the film you can take 2 year olds to see this was meant to appeal to old fans and teens teens 17 and up nothing more.Ok so they cut it of? just because it's memorable doesn't make it the best part of the movie that's like saying you can't do pokemon without saying "gotta cath em all"(that is what they say on that stupid show right?) cuting the cursing out didn't doing anything to the story on the dc it feels forced.

  • @Sutidude i criticized because your defending him even though he has no argument and then you act as though i'm wrong when all i did was bring facts to the table what facts did he bring for him to be right?.

  • @mayhem9024 Ya know I would love to cuss you out...say the nastiest things. But I'm sure you're too young for me to be that harsh to. I WILL say you're a nasty, petulant twat... what a stink demeanour. I first criticized the movie -- THE MOVIE!! -- you're the cretin that somehow took it to a personal level. ...when all I did was joke about the shitty, teen Die Hard >>> with it's Shite writing... TV sit-com level crap about Starwars and nerds and teen crushes....and the lamest action since xXx.

  • @mayhem9024 and yeah...you're also a blasted liar-- sure of it. I caught you in a lie and you feed me step father bull. You said ""My DAD'S a Die Hard fand and saw little difference in this film""...you didn't say "Jim"....If that's your step-father u refer to, then you'd have to know him LONG enough to be familiar enough to call him DAD... YET you're on about your late father the big Die Hard fan .....and let me guess...... he also LOVED LFoDH .....a 2 year old movie. .. U kid R full of crap.

  • @mayhem9024 In the small chance I'm wrong about your father ( which I seriously doubt ) then my apologies.... But my bullshit detector is seldom wrong. First he's so familiar to you he's dad, and then for convienience in arguement when it suits you he's "Jim"....all the while your memories are so freah about your real dad loving all the DHs....If you wanna curse and insult like a little prick, go ahead. It's just pathetic when you try to play victim and look for sympathy with fabricated stories.

  • @TrulyNutzy You asshole! i'm so sick of you! your apology not accepted! not only do you think you never insulted me but you also dare talk about my father! and act as though your right! you can remeber many thing's from childhood such as a favorite song.Grow up and when you can talk to me without being a jerk let me know wonder how your friends woul react to your comment's.

  • I never understood this ending, did mclaine actually had 50% chance of dying in his game?. When bad guys play games like this it's a win/win situation for them, there is always a trick.

  • @Volkodav21 No, because Chinese rocket-launchers like that one are AP as opposed to AM so the flack jacket McClane is wearing would have saved his life, yes he would have been hurt but he could still SHOOT Gruber himself. So win/win for Johnny boy.

  • @JacmusO Got it

  • While this ending is good, it's just feels..out of place.

McClane just seems too suave, TOO menacing. John McClane isn't some Bond Villain.

  • @Dojack too menacing? that's why it wasn't used by studios they felt it wouldn't allow a sequel but the rest of the crew consider this the true ending up until die hard 4 in which they switched they're opinions.

  • "he forgot his flak jacket"

    lol

  • lmfao ownd

  • awesome ... but sure that rocket wouldn't have killed them both though

  • die hard 3 was my favourite, nothing beats running around new york with samuel l jackson

  • Yeah definitely a better ending, would of fit with the title
