GT1 is still an awesome game 14 years later. I play it on my PC using an emulator, and with the original disc! I also have the memory cards used for GT1 on the PS1. My favorite car is the Mitsubishi GTO Twin Turbo. At about 930 HP after being maxed out with upgrades, it runs rings around the competish.

A True Classic, I remember playing it as a kid. queued up for GT2, GT3, GT4 and even got GT5 Signature edition as a result of this game. I swear the graphics were better than that though, surely??? Gran Turismo Series beats all other racing game series' flat out, no hesitation in that decision. I have owned the entire Forza collection, which I would defo place as the second best series. Kinda miss roadrage from the 8 and 16 bit days!

I have GT2 and a demo cd with GT1 on it but it limits to 3 cars and 1 track. I'm looking for the real GT1 itself at the moment. What I found between GT2 and GT1 is that the cars on GT1 sound more powerful and the same cars in both games, with the same specs, takeoff faster in GT1 as well.

This game (and, begrudgingly "The Fast and the Furious" '01) rapidly changed not only how fast we wanted our cars, but how to achieve it.

I don't know, actually it may be the best ever. Maybe GT2 was. But by GT4 it was definitely trying too hard to be a simulator and not a game. There is a point where you're into the competition and yet it's still a video game. It's not fully realistic... not suspending reality but still incredibly challenging... and yet still truly a 'game' per'se. That's where arcade magic is & GT1 nailed it.

They should make a Gran Turismo 1 anniversary edition where it's all the same cars, tracks, and menu's but with updated graphics, a multiplayer, and an option that lets you switch the graphics from the updated ones, to the graphics from the original in 1998. WHO'S WITH ME???

I really like the Forza Motorsport series but Gran Turismo games are my number one choice. I love in GT1 how a 60 frames per sec mode time trial mode could be opened up - wish they carried that over to GT2. R11 was the ultimate night time race track and should have gone over to GT2 also.....oh well brilliant gaming series non the less.

Haven't played GT1 but I own GT2 and the only thing bad about it is the simulation mode menu's. They're not bad, but there's a lot of them and its only because of the PS1 loading time, other than that it's the best racing game I've ever played

@juanito507 Because its CGI you idiot, like most of the games in the time had animated cutscenes and intro's like Tomb Raider 1,2,3 and Revelations. Because the technology at the time couldn't produce that detail with the game engines being used, also the hardware wasn't as powerful as it is today.

This game was SO many light years ahead of the other driving games of the era. A different planet. And you truly had to race long and hard to work your way out of the basement. I love GT5, but starting out with 20,000 dollars is too much. It's too easy to buy/build a ringer right off the bat. In GT1, you cherished ebery 5 hp mod you finally got, and noticed the slight gain it gave you against the AI cars. A legend.
