I'm starting to doubt my memory now but I'm sure I saw a scene with Rickman storming through the castle in a rage and kicking either a dwarf or a peasant off a stool on his way. It made me laugh so much that I've since looked out for it when I've seen repeats on TV but it has disappeared. Does anyone remember this or is it a figment of my imagination?

I absolutely love that bit where Nottingham freaks out when Robin cuts his cheek. Brilliant acting! He plays villains in a way that makes them seem not so unreasonably evil but misunderstood with a purpose. Love it!!!!

They're not one cardboard character that he pulls out of the hat every time he plays this type of part. They're fully fleshed out individuals with their own way of speaking, body language, etc.

For the same reason he was Australian (2), Irish (2), Italian, Japanese, Indian, Brazilian, Canadian, Finnish, a duck and a fox. At least five Yanks have played him, including Douglas Fairbanks Sr.  In the first feature length film (1912) about Robin Hood, he played by an American. There is precedent.
