I dislike how the movie was made. It takes a story set in 1970's Brooklyn and meshes it with today to create appeal for an immature audience that can't watch a movie that isn't geared toward their generation. They focus too much on the ritual of shooting up. Ugh, I just didn't like it! It was too modern. The reason I was attracted to the story was because it was a very particular time in Brooklyn-Coney Island history and they killed it.

@funkyladybean nice recommendation to read the book. But surely, any user in any part of the world focuses on the ritual of shooting up. Checkout "Dogs In Space" for a time and place drug movie. Set in Melbourne just as punk was phasing out and new wave was starting, Starring Michael Hutchens from INXS. Fabulous movie, great soundtrack.

Ha, LOL, I just recommended 'Dogs in Space' on another 'Requiem for a dream' clip. But to be honest, I loved 'Requiem'(just watched it) but while watching it, I was reminded of how powerful and disturbing 'Christiane F' is.(and this was filmed over 20 years before and based on fact making it even more daring).

Unfortunately like 'Dogs in Space', 'Christiane F' is virtually unknown.

And for a Dark comedy showing the effects of H like 'Trainspotting', I recommend 'Gridlock'd'

Both because the illegality makes people do all this stupid stuff just to get their fix, but also because, in the right quantities, tobacco and alcohol is just as dangerous as drugs.
