Last night I watched "The remainds of the day", and I just could think: "kiss her, please, kiss her". Today I've watched this and the tears have clouded my eyes.
Loved them in this together. Also loved Remains of the Day, but really, really hated it. It is one of the most painful movies I've ever seen in my life. But Anthony Hopkins is the greatest actor of our time and remains to be one of the sexiest men alive. I dare anyone to disagree.
I was looking for Hopkins' early films and found this. I don't do "chick flicks" -sorry!-but showed my wife, who says: QueenofKelpies is right: The reason Margaret thanks HIM for proposing is the difference in social class. And age; he's much older, bu tshe's almost a "spinster"! This is to her "Elinor" in "Sense & Sensibility": the restrained, practical sister, as Helen is like Marianne: impulsive & emotional. Margaret must look out for the family. Henry is NOT meant to seem very nice, either.
this scenbe confused me. now i see this is a different film; i havent seen it yet, may be i should. i `m just not used to this kind of movies; but i find myself sadly identificated with this character
how to ask to woman to be hi swife whithout asking it..ahahaha i love it awesome! and you can t see the gpo of the character hopkins is playing at the utmost
Great couple... I was very disappointed in Remains of the Day... No kiss, no sweet words... Now in this film they are wife and husband, it isn't the same, but...
Well, the thing is, in those day when a woman gets past a certain age, marrying is purely pratical. Here she has got an offer from a successful, wealthy, well mannered man... why on earth would she refuse?
and why exactly would hannibal lecter caught dead in anything other than a suit? ( this is of course assuming he is in a position to choose what he wears)

Hopkins is perfection...I always about their relationship in remains of the day!
And he manages to be so attractive in every role he plays, lol.

That was exactly my thinking. I was so disappointed with the Remains of the Day, it made me cry.

nobody here seems to notice that they hardly showed signs of love, and it failed
orangestoneface 2 years ago 2
However, there are no signs of love and passion in the book too...

Great. Love how he doesn't propose on his knee, and his first words are, "Perhaps I should have written first?" This is a decent film.
