i was very lucky to hear Mr. Sheppard in person. He really added an air of dignity to every name. I even got to hear him warn the fans not to "throw objects onto the field, or face ejection from the stadium" at a very rowdy Yankees-Red Sox game in 2005
Bob's most unique practice was that he never ROOTED for the Yankees when he announced them to the plate. Every other major league stadium announcer offers a dry and emotionless announcement for the visiting team and then a bombastic delivery for the home team with obnoxious enthusiasm similar to World Wrestling Federation. Bob was a true class act announcer NOT a cheerleader. One of a kind...R.I.P. Bob. My Yankee's years in NY (1976 - 1982) are cherished memories thanks to you.
A great lose to baseball, I've been to quite a few games at Yankee stadium, and simply loved Bob's dramatic, slow distinctive line=-up. His voice will be missed! (Hell, I am Phillies fan, and Ill miss it.)
@LancerJak When I walk through the pearly gates. I want god to let Bob Sheppard announce. "Ladies and Gentlemen, please join me in welcoming our newest member" LOL haha!!
I so miss Bob Sheppard, and there will never be another public address announcer as good as he was. Yankees home games just aren't the same without his wonderful voice (though at least it didn't completely go away, as you still thankfully hear a recording of it whenever Derek Jeter comes to bat), and the old Yankee Stadium these days. )-:
I hope they play recordings of Bob Sheppard for the rest of my life. Ill NEVER forget walking into the Old Stadium as a kid during the championship years and hearing him announce the lineups. He truely is the Voice of God, and im SOOO Sad he had to retire =( We Love ya Bob!
Lately, I have not really been the biggest baseball fan. But I'm a huge fan of Mr. Sheppard and all he has done with his marvelous voice. He is a staple not only in baseball, but in American History. Simply put, that old man is a stud!!!
I love the Yankees and Bob Sheppard is a legend!!! I can't wait for baseball season, and hopefully he'll be well enough to announce in April. He truly is one of a kind.
Was great to hear his voice last month for the White Sox final games, even if it was a recording. Saw my first game at The Stadium in '68, another in '72 and didn't see another one until '04 . . . and all of that time Sheppard was on the PA. Awesome!
Apparently, Sheppard should be back later this summer.... they should really get him on recording nd stuff 4 the new stadium as morbid as that sounds...cuz that other dude just tries 2 hard (the guy whose been doing it this year)
Hopefully in the new stadium they don't have some silly impersonation of Bob, but have someone new and allow that person to be the new voice of Yankee Stadium. Bob Sheppard is in a class of his own and should not and will not EVER be duplicated!
I know the other guy does it as a tribute but personally I can't stand it. I don't know if he's the only one but at least Jeter has a recording of Bob Sheppard introducing him.
Agreed, He wont be in the new stadium but It would be gre!!at if he can close out the old one in october on his 98th birthday !! Nobody does it better !!!.....for my bob sheppard impersonation type on "chris Pavia"
Very appropriate nowadays with the "darkside" theme for the Sox. The new "Evil Empire". As a Dodger Fan used to be sympathetic towards 'em........No More.......F-U J.D. Drew but much love for Papi and Jeter. I'm SO sick of ESPN overhyping these two. But To Both Sides, Thank you so much.... Boston for Frank McCourt & N.Y. for Joe Torre.
I Love Bob Sheppard, his voice is one of a kind. Every single time i go to the stadium i look forward to hearing him. No one can ever replace him, he is the bestt!! His voice is so clear & precise.
You are a lucky person to know him. Not only is it a dream so many have, but it's also more than we could ever imagine. You will treasure his voice more than ever, I'm sure.
It's cool, actually. On Bob Sheppard Day back in 2000 when the Yankees gave him a monument in Monument park and all of that, I got to go on the field. We're default Diamondback fans because we live right there, but our hearts are always with the Yankees. He should do the announcements on the subway trains headed up to yankee stadium. "Ladies and gentlemen...stand clear of the closing doors, please...stand clear".
bob sheppard does not sound like he is 96 he sounds like he is like 60 years younger he is my favorite adderess announcer go yankees!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
