They were actually a production team. 'Hang On Sloopy' was their baby. J.Geils did a faithful cover of this on 'Love Stinks'. This really is the dog's nuts, though.
Please! Upload information about the band. My hobby is to rediscover all those great bands from the 60s that didn´t "broke through". It´s a musical treasure. Listen for example to The Misunderstood and of course a band from Scandinavia called THE ZETTLERS. Check up their versions of "Skinnie Minnie" and "Beautiful Delilah". Really f.....g good with a bloody driving beat.
Why didn't these blokes get more attention? So much fun to listen to!! Whatever happened to the wacky vid for "I Want Candy" - in B&W, a 30s-style combo and a hefty dancing lady? Cool combination - made the original "I Want Candy" even more intriguing than it already is.
Good morning, do you like sixties? Listen and pod cast my program " great sound of 60' s " on the site plumfm. Greeting and made blooper in rock and roll. Salut, vous aimez les sixties ? Ecoutez et podcatez mon émission "le super son des sixties" sur plum fm. Salut et faites gaffe au rock'n roll
This is a great song! I love this original version rough ultimate 60's sound. Now fast forward to George Thorogoods version. I think it blows this one out of the water. Just my opinion. Listen to Georges 30yr Anniversary live version, the guitar solos in the middle just shred. It is amazing cover of an great old song.
@christophergenovese bob feldman is friends with my teacher.. he lives in Nashville, Tennessee... he came to my school today and talked to us about the music business.. oh and hes not corey feldmans dad either haha he told us
If these guys were a professional songwriter/production team, why did they have to so blatantly rip of the melody to "We've Gotta Get Out of This Place"? Still, not a bad song.
Classic mid-60s garage grind. A DJ in Houston always used to close his radio show with this tune way back when...

I like the album version of this song. It is 40 seconds longer. They hacked the crap out of this on the 45rpm.

I remember the J. Geils Band redid this in the '80s. Sounded very similar to this original.

You should hear "I Want Candy" by the Strangeloves -- sounds identical to "Bo Diddley" & "Willie & the Hand Jive".
pgh45rpms 2 years ago
The "hand jive" form is a very old musical form that goes way back before both of those songs.

I'm sorry I just don't hear any similarities between those two songs at all. But both songs were ripping off black R&B if that answers your question.

cool tune,I've never seen it on London, mines on the U.S. Bang label!
buggerluggs06 2 years ago
UK London labels always credited the original US name. Look closely and Bang gets a mention on the left!
