  • @madassp3nguin - He's playing the theme music for the Andy Griffith Show....

  • @madassp3nguin OLD Spice LOL???

  • going to get a b3 and a leslie saturday :)

  • thanks a lot, very helpful. There's nothing so cool as the sound of a hammond organ

  • "There's no law how you want to play it."

    Truth.

  • I just used 6 minutes of my life, VERY well spent. Thank you SO much for this interesting video. I am, myself an 18 year old rookie Hammondplayer from the cold country of Norway and this was a video I got very much information from. Thank you very much Ebbuford!

    - Truls

  • Ezra, you're the tops! I just got my '67 M100 last week to keep my '69 T200 company..... 3 Leslies around the flat too..... I'm running outa space!!

  • i watched this sitting next to my hammond h-111. it's for sale about $300

  • Thanks Ezra! Love your work! Can't wait to have a try at the b3 one day.

  • Great video; informative and interesting. fuq the haters

  • wah this organ is expensive

  • im just a beginner on the mighty B so i appreciate this a bunch

  • Great video. What amp are you running the B3 through? Is it a Leslie of some sort?

  • Incredible playing. You would think some company out there would reproduce a real tone wheel organ. Sounds so good.

  • He says in this video, "B, as I understand really means "bitch", the wood style".

How does bitch relay to wood style?

  • @VertX , I think he said "bench"

  • @noelbrandon1 this is true it is bench the C model typically in a church was denoting the Cabinet it was in

  • @VertX Lol I think he was trying to say "birch".

  • Likewise, this is probably my favorite Hammond video. Dude, you're tearin' up the pipes!! I'd love to see a full-on solo jam session from you. I'm gonna search now. Thanks for the inspiration! Time for a haircut :-)

  • This is still one of my favorite hammond videos

  • When i look at vids like theses it makes me really want to learn the oragn and play at church. I love the organ sooooooooooooooooooooooooo much and the piano but the organ more,.

  • You have got the baddest organ ever made.

  • Yes, Brother, I love to learn from a Holy Ghost filled teacher!

  • billy preston

  • good godamighty! Felt like I was in a meeting with Bishop TD Jakes! Wish you'd kept on with that! A little more and I'd been dancing under the anointing of the Holy SPirit!

  • I LOVE THAT SOUND at 5:52 whats the drawboard setting?

  • THANK YOU FOR WHAT YOU DO , FOR US! I also thank God for you and the time that you take to give of your talents and skills. Stay blessed

  • mmmm i'm digging that last groove

  • I love this... "there's no law how you wanna play it"

  • does the m3 have a spinning leslie speaker?

  • You are an amazing Organ Player!

  • Utterly awesome - thanks for posting this!

  • This dude is a BEAST on the Hammond. If you don't think so...check out some more of his clips. I have bitten so many licks off of him. Or tried to anyway. You're a great blessing Eld Bufford.

  • Ha Haa those people visiting in the book of Acts heard the disciples and the mother of Jesus speaking in tougnes and said they were drunk on wine. They didn't know what they were seeing and hearing was the Holy Ghost that GOD sent to earth for the first time to dwell on the INSIDE of mankind! So yes we all seem crazy at first but it's just the power of the Holy Ghost that keeps us happy on the inside and outside. Ask GOD for the Holy Ghost to come and stay on the 'inside' your life!

  • @ebufford WOOOO I couldn't have said it better myself! Amen!!! :)

  • @ebufford Ah, Acts, as if the old testament wasn't enough of a crock you get a new one! What you're referring to was not the first time a group of people decided to deflect responsibility for their actions and agree on an imaginary friend. When you believe in that shit, anything's possible unless it applies to the real world. Well, you're creative if nothing else.......

..... But WOW can you play that B3!!!! Well done.

  • At 3:35 he played Midnight Special...

  • you know, i was looking at these online

and they are expensive so i was like

    "fuck that shit"

but around 6:20 of this video he stared me down and in my head i heard him say

"buy it or ill kill you"

so im going to buy it.

  • thank you for saying Billy Preston

anybody into B3 has to know who he is

  • p.s.

    awesome solo at the end

  • Billy's the King

  • Very informative. Thanks for posting this. I've always wanted to know the basics. I wish I had a B3 -- I guess for now I'll have to settle for a Nord.

  • but u can carry a nord :-D

an most people in the audience will never know, or care

  • the end was the best part, great playing bro!

  • I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE ONE OF THOSE

    ORGAN

  • Great video. You play amazingly well. Thanks for taking the time.

  • I would watch some of my friends play the organ in church, I would always want to find myself playing the organ as much as the piano

  • Thank and God bless you for this good information, you spoke very well

  • stick to playing

  • Excellent Tutorial. Your talking ability was great, what do you mean?

  • Comment removed

  • I would love to have one but so expensive... what is a cheaper alternative?

  • The Hammond M3 is the spinet version of the B3, meaning that each manual has 44 keys instead of 61. An M3's "guts" are essentially the same as a B3, so they sound completely identical. They typically run anywhere from 200-500 dollars and are very easy to find. Hope this helps.

  • Thanks Ezra, come to think of it I always talk hamm b3, but now I know what the b3 stands for lol! great video thanks again....steve.

  • Great job - love it. Only one information:

B3 - B stands for - its the second model after the very first Hammond model called A.

3 stands for - its the third version of the B series and got percussion, whereas the B2 for example got no Percussion.

  • Interesting...thx

  • @ebufford Your explanation makes more sense though...

  • ebufford,

    Great info! And...

    Ya' got Soul!!!!

  • really great video! thank you mr.

  • LOL!! at 4:12 !!! Joey who?? JOEY WHO???? Dont worry, I tend to loose my breath whenever I think about how awesome Joey DeFrancesco is too... Thanks for the post : )

  • ha ha u funny dude! Yeah when it comes to organ jazz. Joey D and Tony M is my all time favorites! .

  • VERY VERY helpful...u filled in lots of blanks for me. Theres something about that sound that is sooOOooo satisfying for some strange reason.

The only silly negative comment I have is...drop the shirt. Bad shirt color or something. But I love ya man.

  • Man you are cool. I'm a virtuoso style piano player who wants to learn the organ. I couldn't get past how to set the sounds. Thank you for the video and may God bless you.

  • dude this is exactly what I was looking for.

and 3:07-3:11 wheeeeeew I thought it was Jimmy Smith for a second. Very tasty licks man.

  • Awesome! Thanks! Finally someone shows us uninformed

  • lolol I love the "Hi" in the begining!!!

  • This instructional video is just what I was looking for. GREAT man, great !! I just started messing around with Hammond sounds via software, and you gave me the boost I needed to figure out what all these settings and stops mean. Thank you !!

  • Bless you man!

  • Bless you...thank you

  • You're great, man! Thanks for being yourself. I'm inspired.

  • THANK YOU DR. EZRA! KIller lesson for an amatuer B-3 pounder like me.

  • awesomer video man. thanks

  • What awonderful intro for the absolute novice. I have oftem wondered what makes the Hamond B3 tick. Thank you.

  • phenomenally real and enlightening thank you!

  • The difference between the B and the C is B stands for Band meaning the back of the organ is open and the C stands for church, the back of the organ is closed. Most band musicians played without the pedals and the church did not...

  • Actually, "B" came after the first model "A"

I have a "CV" which meant a "C" with vibrato.

  • Ezra do Keith Emerson!

  • Mr Bufford, you got it!!!

    THanks for posting this

  • hmm nice jimmy smith "midnight special" at 3:27

  • awesome video, and incredible playing! Kudos!

  • nice video.

you are what youtube is all about.

    thanks

  • Can You Please Make A Video Explaining What The Foot Pedals Do?

  • What did he say at 0:52??? Bench, or Beach, as in Beach tree wood, or worse??? lol

  • ha ha! yeah somebody already got me on that! I told y'all I hate the way I talk! I'm trying to work on it with my 'called to teach the word fat butt' ha ha! Bless all of y'all! -y'all crazy!!! lol

  • you better play that bitch lol

  • ha ha. very funny, buddy.

  • he said bench as in "park bench"

  • You know what?! He sure did say bench. I am so sorry. I guess we in the church are so up in arms all the time, we think we see evil everywhere! lol. Thank you for clearing that up, and I apologize to Mr. Bufford. He show is playin! He do need to answer that call on his life! God bless.

  • no problemo...alwayz here to help. God bless you too

  • reaaallyy nice, very good playing and explaining.. keep up the good work!!

  • Wow thanks. Not much info on organs these days. Thanks for the insight into the Hammond sound.

  • Show off... lol... nice work at the end...

  • I lovvvvee that B3 sound brother!

  • Very, very nice my friend.

    good explaning and good skills.

    keep it up :D

  • Awesome. Gotta get a b3. My dream...

  • great talk, great info, it love it!

  • shit i wish i would have found this earlier, i had to learn everything i know about the hammond organ and the leslie speaker from searching all over the place on the web

  • I used to play with a Hammond A SN 0096,what an aweasome fucking instrument. Joe Intrierie was THE best

  • Not sure what it is about the B3 but it really moves me... I mean deeply to the spirit. My favourite R&B singer Mike McDonald always has a B3 on stage with him and does a kind of blues dual with it and a modern Yamaha - its one of the highlights of the shows for me. Great video Ezra!

  • Very cool, I watched this just before I put in my bid on eBay. I know I wanted to get into it, and chose the CV as a starter. I posted a video on my restoration of mine!

  • Amazing!

  • Love the tour. Fender Rhodes and Hammond Organs are fantastic additions to any musicians soundset.

  • I have always loved the piano and even more so the organ. I was given an organ by my uncle prior to his passing. He instructed me to learn how to and play his organ regularly. He always loved that organ. I barely touch it and I am getting back on the ball with it. Thank you so much for explaining all those buttons and even the B-3. I agree that you should be teaching. You maybe should market your own DVD series. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

  • Thank you so much!

  • How about telling us about that square box in the back called a Leslie!

  • Man you should be teacching classes. There a choir director at my church who needs help.

  • learned alot man...thanks.

  • great stuff

    learnt loads cheers

    rock and roll

  • Thanks a lot! You're an exellent teacher indeed!

I love the b3, but I don't have the chance to own this organ (it costs!!)

    So, thanks and byebye

    Louis 16yo

  • Great! Thanks for the tips! 5:34 on sounds like Larry Young.

  • I've always love the sound of the organ, from the moment I got into jazz/blues about 17 yrs ago. GREAT playing.

  • Man! Thank you so much!!!!!

Want to play so BAD! And always wanted to know

    Kev.

  • nice. i am 14 and i just think the B3 rocks. I guess i just listen to to much of Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes, anyways, your videos are awesome. I am also trying to get a Roland VK-7 combo organ relativly cheaply. if you have any info on those let me know. thanks.

    -mike:::keyz

    mental stability in question

  • Thanks Ezra- nice chops and very informational!

  • Ezra, I offically own my own now! Hope I can play like you someday brother. I've got a T582C btw.

  • Thank you, Ezra!

How I would like to play the organ in that way. But maybe one is never too old, so I keep on trying.

Greetings from the heart of Europe,

    Roland

  • thanks, nice video

  • What's up Ezra!! Great to see you again!! I hope you remember Tim Johnson from CT. I used to play for Noel Jones, Willy Ellis ... Glad to see you're still doin it. You always been bad!! Check me out Bro. Peace

  • Your talking ability is good enough to match up my poor ear for English. Thanks for the video, now I've got a better understanding of this complex and beautiful machine... and by the way, I've learned how to say 'gospel' right!

  • C3 is the church full wood body style of the B3. '3' means built in percussion tabs. '2' means no (without) percussion.

  • hey did you get my charles nicks amazing grace?

  • Thank you, sir. Awesome stuff! One of my life's goals: Play the Hammond B3 in the church.

  • Very very nice!!!!!!!

  • now you need to post one about the Leslie Speaker

  • HEY WHATS YOUR MYSPACE

  • THANKS NEEDED THAT

  • Do you own B3 and how often do you practice? I play the organ for a church and I feel I would be better if only I could practice more... but that hard when I don't personally own a Hammond... so Mr.Bufford do you have any suggestions?

  • Thanks for posting this great video. I play bass guitar but have always loved the B3, that has to be the most powerful sound ever created. Maybe I will get one one day, with a Leslie speaker of course... (checks ebay...)

  • Very cool, i like the style and the sound. Thanks!

  • Thanks Ebufford....i"m gonna get a hammond B3.

  • so that's how some them ole 60's groups booker .t got their sounds

  • Any more videos coming?

  • moog. yeah. I'm thinking about setting the cam on the other side and go through the different vibrato settings and more drawbar sounds soon.

  • doc bufford. Is there a real difference between the b3 and the c3? How did u learn how to play the organ?

  • What a fantastic video from an outstanding organist, Mr. Bufford. The good lord has blessed you with such an amazing talent to be shared with mankind. Thanks and god bless

  • Thanks Man. I am a pianist and have always been curious about the Hammond B3. Thanks for the lesson very educational. Post more!

  • You should make another. good job!

  • thanks ezra I really need that lesson! Thanks Stefano

  • Thanks million for this, ebufford. My Korg BX-3 was an Ok substitute, but still only a substitute.

  • Wow! Just Wow! Thanks for the tour - awesome!

  • Wow!!! I'm in Indianapolis too, wish you could be my teacher! Way to go! I love this lesson.

  • I love the B3 Sound! Everytime I hear it I get such a warm glow inside of me! haha!

    Nice Playin To!!!

  • You're a great teacher! :)

  • Great video. I'm a rock guitar player 20 years....curious about Hammond C3 (friend bought one) and B3. Good content, presentation.

  • i am a huge fan of southside johnny and the asbury jukes (i'm 13 yrs old) and i love how kazee(keybordist) plays the b3. this is by far my favoritre instrument but i dont have 30 grand or the room to put it, lol. i'm sure u know, unless it is made my hammond themselves, nothing will simulate that very well.
