  • One of the sweetest voices of all time surely?

  • The absolute greatest Christmas song of all time! Love the pic of Karen holding the puppy!

  • This song has always been special but it reminds me of the last christmas that my little chihuahua was alive. He passed on March 1st before his 7th birthday. His name was wilbur and this song always reminds me of him

  • Great version of a wonderful song.

  • most beautiful female voice ever!

  • A Merry Christmas to everyone who's apart from someone you love very deeply.

  • Merry Christmas to all listeners on this day 12/25/2011 and God Bless

  • Merry Christmas my love, I will always love you and cherish you forever Tim,Love Always,Michelle

  • Merry Christmas LAS

  • unbelievable

  • I still have the 45 of it, and I did not like the remake when I heard it. By then, the original was too embedded with memories and I didn't want it tampered with even by the star it belonged to. It wasn't 'broke'; it didn't need to be 'fixed.'

  • I LOVE THIS VERSION!!!

  • Missing my USAF Reservist hubby of 30 years who is in Afghanistan this Christmas. Love you Bear.

  • Wouldn't be Christmas time without listening again to Karen singing.

  • This is for my darling who i miss so much.....we are so far apart but she is forever in my heart...

    I still love u so fucking much.......だいすきだよ。xxx

  • I love this song!! Brings back fond memories of listening to this as a kid <3

  • This 1970 version is the one that is played on the radio here in Detroit. I used to like the 1978 version better, but this one is just as good. My absolute favorite Christmas song!

  • I hope they re-release this original version again someday.

  • shes a angel

  • I used to not be much of a fan of her voice; of course as a child I thought she was an over dramatic fruitcake. But, now that I'm older (I also sang this song for a holiday concert), and I am in the situation where I can't see my best friend on the holiday, I was able to relate to this entirely. I love how heartfelt this song is and how it entirely captures every feeling. I really love her voice and tone, I hope someday I can live up to the wonderful legend she left behind. Favorite X-Mas song.

  • @drumlinedreamer Part of that is that Carpenter -one of the most distinctive female voices of the babyboomer generation- was given a high volume of syrupy songs to put over. She managed to do so, but they sounded best over the radio and in the company of beefier rock and roll, fore and aft. In that setting, Karen's voice was like a rich vanilla ice cream cone on a blistering summer day. Had she lived, an album of standards such as Rondstat did with Nelson Riddle, would have been very welcome.

  • Karen will always live in our hearts, especially at Christmas! Love and miss you Karen.

  • Thank you Karen. Peace to you forever.

  • i wish i were with u darling :D Merry Xmas everybody

  • The 1970 version is my favorite. It's what i first heard in late 1970 and will always consider her best version.

I have seen it around on 45 in 2nd hand stores but never have bought it. It's still around.

  • thats one voice you miss karen carpenter and her brother, she was the best!!!

  • nho con trai toi , Duy lan, chung toi moi biet bai nay

  • This song is my all time favorite Christmas song.

  • CHEAPCAKE>>OOHH..POOR GLORIA!...I HOPE SHE DIDN'T READ THIS....HAHAHA

  • sorry but i think this IS the 1978 version. It doesn't sound like their other 1970 recordings at all. Where are the differences??

  • My all time favorite Christmas song

  • KAREN CARPENTER AND GLORIA STEFAN..HAVE VERY SIMILAR VOICES!!

  • @LolaLola444 what?? Don't even compare Gloria to this legend. Sure, Gloria is ok, but KC's voice one in a million!

  • other than the plug for Coca Cola...this is a wonderful song.

  • @doobeedoo58 <--------------Pepsi lover......

  • They re-did this for their "Christmas Portrait," because I think Karen didn't like it, and Richard re-dubbed it in the 90s, but the original will always be my favorite. I came out when I was in the tenth grade. YIKES! My own daughter (I had her at 40) is in the tenth grade right now. Music is nothing like this now. Too nasty and angry.

  • I wish I was Christmasing With My ex- Magical Love Lovely GorGeous Lidia. This song is so Lovely Beautiful,Thanks for putting it on here.Wishing everyone lots Love and Wealth always,Cheerios.

  • Hermosa canción. Homenaje a Karen Carpenter, ya fallecida

  • 1970年の録音があるんですね。歌い方が初々しい。

  • Thanks so much for posting loved the pictures- and the carpenters what can I say fabulous- loved Karen the moment I heard her voice at the age of twelve. My very favorite music

  • Do Świąt jeszcze prawie miesiąc, ale już czuję się świątecznie:):)

  • I Love Karen Carpenters voice soooo much!!!....

  • A beautiful Christmas & love song...only Karen Carpenter could combine the two...

  • Ok, this isn't the version that actually got released to the radio? Am I right?

  • @madeyes4u this is the one I grew up with from the radio. But she re-recorded / re-released another one. This one is better.

  • @madeyes4u This is the original single version from 1970. The re-recording is up on Youtube and sounds almost identical.

  • @mb7668 One can spot the 1970 version (this one) by the way Karen sings "thelogson the fire" quickly instead of "the logs on the fire" more separated in 1978.

  • @madeyes4u no, you are incorrect!

  • Karen was wrong. THIS one was better and totally perfect. (Too bad she didn't see what we'all saw. Gone WAY Too Soon).

  • @kevc21

  • this song rocks

  • I'm a 49 year old black men,and every time I hear this song a good feeling tear falls from my eye, don't tell anyone... LOL

  • @audielee1953 I am a 43 year old black woman and remember crying like a baby for days when she died. I always loved The Carpenters and still play their music . This is one of my favourite christmas songs. Just goes to show that music transcends all barriers. BTW I am also from the caribbean.

  • @marcie0303 Thank You My Queen

  • @audielee1953 i know how you feel i am 13 and boy i love her songs!

  • @audielee1953

What does the color of a person's skin have to do with the enjoyment of music -- or anything else? It's 2011 (almost 2012) and we (finally!) understand that there's only one race: the human race.

  • @audielee1953 GOD BLESS YOU ALWAYS WITH LOVE!!!

  • @audielee1953 theres nothing wrong with that,,,, a sensitive kind man is hard to find.

    God Bless you

    lyn

  • @audielee1953 Great to hear that! A great song performed like this will get to anyone with feelings and a good heart! x

  • This is one of me favorite Christmas tunes the Carpenters sound so good.

  • 2 more months people!! YAY!! thumbs up if you're excited about Christmas already!

  • i love almost all of the christmas songs

  • Reminds me of my Lost Love...

  • @LoveInterruptedYuku Yea, it's always rememinded me of the lost "love" of my life too. SAD

to loose who you "will always" Love.

  • @47yesican - You will never lose them inside your heart...

  • This is my favorite Christmas song. Miss you Honeybob and kids. LOve u very much...

  • I love this song too. It's like a carpenter's fan's dream. You can listen to it all year around.

  • I love this song too. It's like a carpenter's fan dream. You can listen to it all year around.

  • 99 days until Christmas!

  • @mpjgbx 73!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Beautiful song! Love it! :)

  • It's like they say, you are your harshest critic. I like both versions she did, but I can't hear any fault in this earlier version. Karen Carpenter was just...perfect.

  • Very nice Country Girl such a sweet relationship a mother and daughter.

My condolences to you and your family. Sounds like you had a special

little girl and now God has her. Bless you and you family Country Girl.

  • Country Girl much sympathy goes out to you.

May God guide you through you pain and may

your little girl see you with a smile. I think that's

what she would want to see. Rex

  • Such a beautiful song. This is the song I plan on performing this Christmas with my band to my girlfriend. It's SOOOOOOOO beautiful!

  • What gravelly? it's the perfect version :)

  • One soothing voice..

  • merry christmas in august pals.

  • december?june?august? who cares!! christmas songs all the way!!! ^ ^

  • @toekangrotie77 ...Ha at least someone shares my sentiments...I agree fully!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @toekangrotie77 yup, I listen all year-round

  • heck its august now and idc Merry christmas darlings out there!!

  • Christmas in July! ;3

  • MERRY CHRISTMAS IN JUNE 2011!!!

  • @zzzzxxxx341 right on!

  • i'm listening to this in June but to be honest I don't really care

  • They tried to interview her brother Richard not too long ago. But he declined. Guess he just wants to be left alone.

  • I didn't realize KC re-recorded it seven years later, but I knew there must've been two versions. The last "Happy New Year too" is different in the two versions. I clearly remember this 1970 version better.

And I agree with posters that Richard was very, very talented.

  • What a voice! Today's pop divas know only melisma (how to fit an unending string of maudlin notes into each and every syllable of a song), but nothing about melody and phrasing.

  • It's Spring Now. And Karen and Richard Rule/ Christmas or Anyday. This Version is Fabulous. Thank You. My Karen Carpenter. Your Favorite Color Yellow is coming everywhere/ flowering now that it is Spring again. For You.

  • Rip Karen Carpenter- voice of an angel

  • How can anyone not love the Carpenters...Karens voice was so majicial...such a joy to just listen too...those who voted dislike dont know what real music is...go listen to pditty or some of that crap.....

  • her 1978 recording of this song is a little more refined and sweeter sounding. while both are excellent, i prefer the '78 version.

  • I got this single on a box set I bought from a flea market in China. I could tell it sounded different from the other video of this song on Youtube. This version is much more haunting. Karen really had a gift for portraying sadness or a longing. What better than to record a song about missing a loved one on X-mas??

  • It ain't Christmas without Karen....oh, and to you freaks who gave a "thumbs down." BITE ME YOU FREAK FREAKING FREAKS.

    Try me... James Zeruk ... 11700 Wilshire Blvd., L. A., Ca. 1-424-214-9691.

    Fuckin' Puseeee....

  • They just dont MAKE music like this anymore.

  • Karen Carpenter had the most mellow, sweet, intoxicating voice I have ever heard, then or now. Her recordings are still a blessing to us now.

  • Merry Christmas darling...I really wish I was with you today..<3, soon my love

  • Karen Carpenter is also one of the brightest stars in the ski,GOD bless you ALL this Christmas season. ((((((( HAPPY BIRTHDAY JESUS )))))))

  • Merry Christmas Darling, I wish I was with you!!! Love you.

  • Baby mommy will be remembering u this Christmas as u left to b with the angels last Christmas God took u from my arms & into his & u became an Angel on both Heaven & Earth. Baby u taught me so many things seeing it through ur eyes how the smallest thing counts & how u stayed strong ur courage & strength was more then any LiL' Cowgirl should ever have to endure u r always in my heart baby & i look for u in the stars every single night u r the brightest one!

    *God Bless*

    *Seaira Rae*

    *2002-2009*

  • @GaCountryGirl024 God bless You Country Girl may you feel the spirit of your daughter all around

you this holiday season and may it put smiles on your face and not tears in your eyes. She sounds like

a beautiful child who fought a hard battle for a Bone Marrow Match if we all registered with the National

Bone Marrow Association we could all possible save a life. I hope you you are home for the holidays.

I read your channel page and the work you do for others is amazing. Merry Christmas

  • @GaCountryGirl024 She obviously got a lot of her courage and grace from you GaCountryGirl024. Just as this song makes you miss your child, this song equally reminds me of my mom. God Bless you and yours...

  • @GaCountryGirl024 Your baby girl will always be watching down on you ♥

  • Richard's unquestioned talents were in arranging, writing and performance. Karen had the incredibly rare gift of innately capturing the nuance of a vocal presentation, a la Sinatra or, in his generation, Diamond. Her ability to lay a track on the first take was beyond belief - many of their hit songs were first takes. I sometimes wonder what pleasures Karen and Richard could have given us if she hadn't been taken from us far too early.

  • MERRY CHRISTMAS!

  • ¡ Feliz Navidad !

  • Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

  • Merry Christmas, LAS.

  • WHAT A SHAME WE LOSE SO MANY GOOD VOCALISTS AND MUSICIANS WHATS UP WITH THAT ANYWAYSSSS

  • I love this Christmas song...it's one of my favorites. when I was little this song would warms heart...then, now, and forever! Merry Christmas!!

  • We love the music of the Carpenters, coming from 4 corners of the world.

  • This song makes me HUNGRY :)

  • Richard never sang lead because why mess up perfection? Karen had a clear beautiful voice that was just as pure as a Christmas snow. RIP Karen.

  • nice xmas song ever ..

  • Merry Christmas to all the Ladies that have been in life. Wish I could all of you again. It's been one hell of a ride.

  • She was nice, but why didnt Richard ever sing lead? Did he have stage fright?

  • @VASINGER I'm going to assume you're asking this because you might possibly not be familiar with the entire library of Carpenters material. Richard did indeed sing lead on many very appealing Carpenters songs: Your Wonderful Parade; Saturday; Get Together (originally by the Youngbloods); Piano Picker; Nowadays Clancy Can't Even Sing (originally by Neil Young) & others. Richard just knew that Karen was the STAR with the voice of an angel; I think he was glad to play 2nd banana.

  • @oliasdoug I have few of their LP's and I did notice he sang a few. Are you saying Richard didn't have a voice of an angel? I do like Karen's voice, though. I normally don't care for female vocals, as most are unpleaseant sounding. But she has a lower voice, much like Patsy Cline and it was very unique. I think she was very talented. But male singers are just as good. Roy Orbison had a great voice.

  • Oh my God. This is Christmas! I got chills through my bones.... Karen Carpenter's deep, full-bodied, velvety smooth voice makes me feel like she feels. Oh yes she did. It puts me to sleep. I love her sooooo much. RIP KC.

  • Beautiful song! I love the Carpenters.

  • ชอบมากๆๆๆ

  • 7 people are absolute idiots !!!!

  • Merry Christmas Missi Lynn Mock !

  • Melissa Lynn Mock , Merry Christmas LiL Princess !

  • This song is one of my favorites. The one thing I like about this song is that at the time of it's release, it was considered pop i guess. Anyway this song embraces the feel of a Christmas song; the harmonies/melody/chord structure generates the warmth and comfort of Christmas. This is something that is so lost in some of the so-called "contemporary / pop" Christmas songs of today. I wish some of the tunes of today put more thought in their work. Karen's voice endures, yet deeply missed.

  • No Christmas without this offering from Karen.

  • Merry christmas Darling....Happy new year too...I really like her songs...very melow and romantic...=))

  • Love hearing this every holiday season. What a joyous voice she had...beautiful!

  • the replay button is getting raped right now

  • from the very first time I heard this song in 1970 it has been my all time favorite Christmas song. No one can ever replace that voice, Karen Carpenter was truly one of the most incredible female vocalist's off all time.

  • To my sistah..............xxx

  • Wow. That ending's a real kicker.

  • @castercamber.Yes.The harmony at the end is gorgeous.

  • @vlovesrafa Definitely!!!!

  • @vlovesrafa

And the same to you and your loved ones. Here's to health, and happiness:).

  • i thought this sounded a little different than the version i'm used to hearing. warm and sweet and charming, as usual. karen carpenter...greatest vocalist ever

  • I can't believe it's been over 27 years since she passed away, and it still feels like it was yesterday. If I could have given my life to save hers, I would have. Just like my Mother, who passed away in 1992. I can't describe the joy Karen gave me, as a teenager, in the early 1970's. Karen Carpenter's songs, gave me joy and memories, that will live forever, and thus, so will she. This Christmas song is a classic, just like Karen.

We, her fans, all love and miss her.!!

    Rest in Peace Karen.

  • The ending to this song is perfect!

  • Good God..On the day I die, I'd like this to be the first thing I hear in Heaven

  • @thurin68

I have always said the same thing. This woman was an angel in life and is one in heaven

  • To those who put tumbs down ba hum bug. It's Christmas enjoy it

  • Karen is the only one who can sing this christmas song this beautiful. This is perfect for her voice.

  • No one then or today comes close to the crystal perfect phonetic quality of this lady's voice. And no one ever will. The Perfect Christmas Song. A modern Classic.

  • My very favorite Christmas carol ever- even though it is not an older "classic".

  • Besides all the traditional Christmas songs this is my most favorite Christmas song of all time!

  • This is a sad song coz my Babe and I are far apart. I just wish we can be together. I long to touch, hug and kiss him. I miss my babe.

  • To my most precious knight, Merry Christmas. For mince pies n mulled wine, n christmas cuddles n truffles n you! Miss you always, but especially at this time of year. Thanks for the memories. Your Angel. Xx7

  • Makes me cry in rage that seven people didn't like this song. How COULD they not like it? Would take a person with no heart to dislike it.

  • @Shaddow1966 I agree you'd have to be deaf not to like this song. It's one of the most beautiful and heartfelt Xmas songs ever.

  • hauntingly beautiful voice .and yes one of the best Christmas tunes ever .

    RIP Karen .

  • Love this 1970 version Karen's vocals are a little more raw than the"Perfect"1978 version...both fantastic though as always....

  • My absolute favorite Christmas song of all time! The song has so much meaning and is sung by Karen, who has the voice of an angel. Absolutely beautiful!

  • I can't believe this song came out 40 yrs ago!!! Where does the time go...it is a classic though. Reminds me when I was young and in love.

  • Each year about this this time, I get my annual reminder of just how beautiful Karen's voice was. While listening to Christmas songs on the radio, I will hear this one and just be overwhelmed with how pretty it is. I like her singing voice better than any other I've heard.

  • Karen Carpenter~~One of the best voices ever~~and one of the very best christmas songs ever~~

  • This song and Karen Carpenter RIP.. PURE MAGIC! BREATHTAKING!

One of the best Christmas songs ever! Sung by an angel!

Wishing everyone around the world a Beautiful, Happy, Loving MERRY CHRISTMAS! HAPPY NEW YEAR! Peace N Love

Thank you @carpentersaddict for posting this GEM!
