  • JUST BEAUTIFUL !! OSCAR AND THAT ACCOMPANMENT MAKE THIS RENDITION A PIECE OF MUSIC TO BE ENJOYED BY LOVERS OF GOOD MUSIC IN THE DISTANT FUTURE

  • LOVE this!!! Thank you (and Oscar & orchestra, Jobim & arranger)

  • jobim rules!!!!!!!!

  • THIS SONG IS CAPTIVATING, REFRESHING, AND A DELIGHT!!!

IT SENDS WAVES THROUGH MY EARS DOWN INTO MY SOUL. RIP OP

  • so much has already been said-- this is truly what glorious music is supposed to be---------- RIP OSCAR PETERSON AND ANTONIO CARLOS JOBIM

  • このレコードも良く学生時代聞きました。

    学生時代すごした街並木が浮かんできます。

    いい思い出です。

  • Oscar is in a Class by himself.just so cool to watch him play.his fingers seem to glide over the keys.but credit to antonio carlos jobim as well for the great tune.for bossanova fans catch the video with Jobim and Sinatra out standing.

  • I was 14 when I bought the first album, Girl Talk. I'm 60 now and still happy.

Wave is wonderful and makes me happy.

  • This must be what God feels like, if you felt God - they say it's indescribable, when you experience God - this music, what I just felt hearing it - it's not just feelings though - it goes beyond that - it must be what God feels like.

  • HOW DOES HE DO IT?!!?

  • as much as i try to think... i can't get it through my skull how somebody pressed the dislike button

  • @chelomustis i think that person was nuts!!!

  • The first time I heard this song was abt 2000. It just blew me away... there were literally tears in my eyes by the time it ended. I'm a big Jobim fan and while there are innumerable covers of his songs -- some of the greatest songs and covers you may ever find -- Peterson's "Wave" & Ella Fitzgerald's "Desafinado" are at the top of the heap!

  • Count me among those among these a classic, from the composer, and from the interpreter. Jobim and Oscar Peterson are bonafide treasures.

  • oscar and jobim and claus ogerman, dosen't get any better then this.

  • I could listen to this all day long.

  • It's an honor felling the love from those people to the Jobim's music

  • I stand corrected it was "Motions and Emotions"

  • This is from the album "Chords and Dischords".

  • Absolutely one of Oscar's best. I've been along time fan & I've put everything I have on Oscar Peterson into mp3's, From most of his Verve Catalog, To Cassette this song is from. From the cassette; "We Do Requests" - the Oscar Peterson Trio To Ultimate Oscar The CD., Featuring Some of his Best work as selected by Ray Brown. It's nice to know that some out here has a great appreciation of a Master, like Oscar. Thank -You!!

  • C'est ♫ magnifique!

  • Uau!

  • One of OP's all time greatest solos, at least in my view. The way he effortlessly combines melody and flawless technique truly dazzles the listener! Mankind was fortunate to have been graced by this genius and wonderful human being. RIP Oscar, you're deeply missed, both as a musician and person.

  • LOVE IT!

  • this is the best version, even jobim said so..........

  • how the fuck could someone dislike this??

  • I have uploaded a few tunes, I am a lover of Jazz and soul music and so pleased to get so many respsonses to this clip.

As I have said before I personally love the image of a young Oscar such a sublime talent so sadly lost to us all.

    His legacy lives on.

  • @gilly1961 Thank you for this beautiful, beautiful piece of music...it makes my heart sing...

  • @gilly1961 Great upload, thanks...just nice at the end of the day.

  • Just a great depth of feeling

  • nice song!can u believe just discovered him now.

  • Lush, succulent, the definitive performance... it is Yemaha incarnate...

  • This song can also be found in the album Tom Jobim 1994: The Antonio Carlos Jobim Songbook.

  • Even When he is making elevator music it sounds good

  • semplicemente STUPENDA!!

  • the solo is so perfect not a note outa place

  • OSCARRRRRRR....we thank the Canadians for sharing you with US and the world. xoxoxoxoxo...RIP Your muisc is

here Mr. Peterson and shall always...remain EXTRAORDINARY ~

  • my favourite -is it sixties?

  • It's from 1969 off of Motions and Emotions, arranged by Claus Ogerman. Supposedly Oscar didn't like the piano he had so he went back into the studio and played his piano part against the recording of the orchestra. Perhaps it was having a chance to listen to the orchestra first freed him up to come up with the amazing solo that just builds and builds.

  • oh my god...I don't think I've ever heard a performance of anything this talented before. Can anyone recommend any songs that come close to this level of absolute musical genius?

  • Listen to "You look good to me" and "Con Alma" ...

  • I still get goosebumps and shudder at the memory of this mighty musician - in physical size as well as in his uncanny ability to elevate the collective nobleness of mankind through his utterly civilized presence. This cut bests Jobim's own versions: The crescendo builds smoothly, almost imperceptibly, but isn't out of the ordinary for O.P. until around 4:20, when one recognizes that this improvisation has likely transcended anything that ever floated out of a Copacabana club. Truly stellar!!!

  • oscar peterson.

one of those legendary characters of whom i never met, but miss his presence on this planet so much...

  • yes, the best version of this song. Ever

  • Timeless beauty!

  • OP was one of those special beings granted permission to enter the Garden of Eden, pick the hallowed fruit from the tree of knowledge and offer it to we mortals to enjoy. And how sweet it is.

  • Now theres an epitaph! Well crafted.

  • Has there been a better work from this pianoforte maestro? The orchestral accompaniment just enhances the polish that Peterson lavishes on those ivory keys. Masterful entertainment!

  • If someone want's this version ;

    ''A Trip to brasil - 40 years of bossa nova - CD2''

    song 14

  • Best version of this song, EVER!

I've been listening to this for over 15 years and it still blows my mind.

Oscar is an "Open Channel"... Effortless... He really feels the song... lets the song take control of him... and just expresses it beautifully. It's damn near orgasmic by the end... Just fantastic.

  • Great job Oscar !! : ))))

  • i heard this track for the first time about 10years ago, and i am still amazed. my favorite musical instrument is the piano, i love Jobim and for Oscar Peterson to perform with this arrangement is timeless. this should be put in a time capsule, hopefully it will be around 1000 years from now! Breathtaking!

  • Thanks very much to the gentleman who posted this beautiful version of wave.I have to listen to it at least once a week..Oscar Peterson was a genius.

  • thank you, im glad you like it. I love this track. I really like the photo too. Oscar was indeed a genius. But Jobim wrote this and said he could never have played it as well as Oscar. They were both true great Jazz men.

  • It''s wonderful to hear this again. The 'Motions and Emotions' album shows such a sensitive side to OP's playing - and this song is just gorgeous, as is most of Jobim's music! Many thanks.

  • Claus Ogerman's arrange is perfect

    and Oscar is marvelous!

  • my favorite piano performance!

  • IMO, this is the greatest recording by the greatest jazz pianist of all time -- Oscar Peterson. The ingredients are all there: perhaps the best composition by one of 20th century;s greatest composers (Jobim), the best orchestrator of Jobim (Ogerman), and the most sophisticated piano interpreter of the bossa nova (Peterson).

  • thanks for the comment. I agree, I suspect many ppl just hit this and listen to a part, but to listen to whole piece and hear it 400 times later and it still has that freshness. Wonderful piece played by a master and written by one too.

  • Yes I have put it on in the car while driving somebody and they are just blown away by it. They can barely fathom how a man can play with such beauty and technique.

  • @gilly1961

I don't know if I listened to it 400 times, but I had the CD and that was one of my favorites on it. I suppose I listened to it maybe a hundred times, the whole thing :D I like the way it picks up dynamics at around 3:50 :) Another tune I have listened to that often is Last Summer in Rio by Azymuth, despite its almost 11 minutes.

  • @URSINHOdePELUCHE I know that tune, its a great piece of work.

  • The best 6 minutes that has ever graced my ears.

That insane 2 hand 2 octave rift he does at 5:34 blows my mind every time I hear it.

  • i dont know so much about jazz ....but this piece is the most beautifull song i never hear.

it s hope ....kindness...talent....innocens.....and rio de janeiro wenn it was heaven on earth.

    sorry for my bad english.

  • have listened to this song / version at least hundreds of times.... still a revelation , still finding out new chords... a masterpiece !

  • Truly a revelation ... are there any more bossa nova numbers by Oscar?

  • Yes indeed. His ebullient version of Jobim's Triste is a real treat. Spectacular, yet stays very musical throughout the fireworks and never lets up to the end.

  • Motions and Emotions on MPS - this track is from it.

  • This is without doubt the best version of "wave". If you hear this first thing in the morning, it will make you wanna get out of bed even on those laziest of days! Thanks for posting..

  • peterson is wonderful

  • One of the greatest songs by Jobim. Love the performance by peterson

  • great great great!

  • Absolutely one of OP's great interpretations of Wave, really the best and with a great arranger, Claus Ogerman, who wrote the charts. Oscar was really on fire at this session, although he laid the piano tracks at another time, another place and not live with the orchestra, because he didn't like the piano, so the session was postponed

  • LOVE THIS SONG!!!

  • Seriously, I'm, like, 2 seconds away from getting an airplaine ticket to Brazil!

it does NOT get better than this!

    Thanks for posting.:)

  • Thank you for sharing Stephan!

But I tell you, it's in my O.P. playlist for few months already. LOL

I totally agree with what you said, it's perfect! 5 stars!

    Thank you for posting gilly1961!

  • StephanAOTTO1:Thanks for the invite my friend.I am glad you like this version of Jobims,Wave played by Oscar Peterson & Claus Orgerman Orchestra.I have this cd Album Motions Emotions 1969 recorded in Germany..I love this Album.5*****.Marc Jones Pop/Jazz Vocalist..U.S.A.

  • i first heard this song on a map addon by phantom 359 :D i asked him what it was... this is awesome it relaxes me so much :)

  • Awesome song composed by THE Brazilian genius Antonio Carlos Jobim (there so many others!)and beautifully performed here by Oscar Peterson. Thanks for sharing...

  • thank you for the comment. This track can easily be overlooked. If you listen to it time and time again its obvious its a classic.

Jobim is a talent. He admits Oscars version is the best. Oscar was such a grat player. Ilove the photo too. Its a young man who gave us so much pleasure. A great for sure. Who can argue that.

  • My favourite bit is right on the fade at the end. That's some harmony right there!

  • Great Version by a great musician! Even the master himself Tom Jobin couldn´t have played it better! However, I would like to see aversion where Mr. Peterson plays Wave live! Does anyone have such a version?

  • When I think of Oscar Peterson, I think of this song. Canada's greatest musician, this is such a classic. Antonio Carlos Jobim is the only person who could duplicate this, and he wrote it. Even he couldn't top this!

  • check my favs Eldar is an up and comim gr8 player who loves oscar. eldar is truly a technically awesome player.

  • thats a vibe right there

  • This tune was written by the very talented Brazilian musician Jobim, who in another YouTube clip says that he "dares to play it" even after this earlier version by "the great, great Peterson".

    Praise comes no higher.

  • i have to agree with you there. it is an amazing number. one of my favourites. one of those tracks you can listen to over and over again and never get bored, because each time you listen, you notice something new, if it isnt the build up at the end, then the ryhthm section, not mentioning oscars double hand techniques!

  • inspiring music by the number one jazz great oscar. nothing can compare!
