Anyone who doesn't know this - if you ever find yourself being chased by monsters or the sun is coming down and you're not prepared and all you have is dirt, you use the building straght up trick. Go straight into the sky and make yourself a platform from there. Then no mobs can get you and once you're done with the night or being chased, simply dig straight down and you're done with being hurt! There isn't any better way, trust me.

Because if it's just straight up then you could use a platfrom so you can move around and not fall off + spider's can't climb ceilings and if it's straight up then spiders will be able to climb and eat you but if there's a platfrom they'll get stuck and starve.
