They just displace the accents, and the drummer is wild, in a good way, so maybe that's why it's hard for you to follow. Or maybe you're just not educated in music theory.

Universal, I think, only lets The Mars Volta put out an album a year or something. Omar generally wants to continue to produce past that and play so he just technically "started" a new group that contained a good amount of Volta musician's anyways.

I mean, this is isn't really Volta material though. It fits very well with the rest of Omar's solo albums so it would make sense why they are called this.
