@hawkflies93 I love this song, and NOBODY can come close to Patti's rendition, and like hawkflies93 (appreciated your comment mate, I wouldn't have left a comment myself if not for you), I tend to rock much harder than this, but Patti has softened my heart. Alright, enough of this lovefest...
Iit''is so enllightening to know some of today's generation appreciate the good music we enjoyed back then Maybe just may be lts beginning to make a come back. Hope it happens on my watch
The song has a long history. It was first recorded as a country song by Sue Thompson. Nothing happened. Joni James, planning her first recording session, saw the sheet music at a Woods Building office in Chicago and recorded it in February, 1952. It became her second release on Sharp Records and sold so fast M-G-M Records took the master. Joni was on her way to a big hit when Jo Stafford recorded the song for Columbia. Then Patti Page covered Jo's version, as did Dean Martin.
My mom sang from the time her eyes opened in the morning until they closed in bed at night. She sang lots of Patti Page songs, lots of Jim Reeves songs, Platters... gads hundreds! Thanks to her voice filling our home 24/7 with all kinds of songs... my sister and I know 1,000's of songs and their lyrics probably over four decades. She left this earth to join my father to dance and sing together again in May of 2004 - Now at 54 years of age, I REALLY appreciate her gift to us of music.
