  • 96-01/05 were my sesame street years

  • Cookie!!

  • Now why didn't Sesame Street do something like this for it's 40th anniversary (yeah I know it was done at the daytime emmys but they only did it by Decade)

  • I remember watching from 1983 to about 1991

  • 84-88/89 were my Sesame Street years.Saw the show for the first time in years recently and its almost a totally different show as far as format goes and TBH ,not only are some of the new "muppets" pretty lame by comaprison to the old school ones, but Elmo seems to be a big focus rather than Big Bird.

Cookie Monster is still awesome though.

  • I first saw this video a couple of years ago, and it's only now I'm realizing that the clip from 2001 must have been meant to convey the September 11 tragedy to children.

  • Pretty sure "I Love Trash" predates 1991 by quite a few years - but couldn't tell you when it originally aired.

  • @histrion2 well the original is from 1969. this is the remake.

  • Nice. Now, let's update this video compilation to today! :)

  • I like Elmo being kissed by a Baluga Whale

  • is that Lily Tomlin from 1975?

  • Wow!! I'm 14 and I remember watching this from 99-04 sesame street was so awesome in those days now a days when I check up to see it I get sad because after so much years of good episodes sesame street is getting lame I LOVE SESAME STREET 69-04 even if I weren't alive for most of it :)

  • I completely forgot that the Pixar lamps were on Sesame Street!

  • the guy in 1991 look gay

  • @hobbs91176 Dude, that's Oscar the Grouch!

  • John John!!

  • I find it sad that Mr Pooper died

  • @feighne3 Hooper... not Pooper

  • my cousin is so dumb i had to do the one of these thing doesn't belong here bit with him

  • Poor Big Bird. D':

I used to watch this show all the time as a kid, I'm sixteen now, so I did miss a good bulk of "classic" Sesame Street, but, it seems as though it's always had the same amount of heart in it. Just that they've redesigned some of the characters. Big Bird used to have a really small head, Snuffy, well, Snuffy was just odd looking. Oscar used to be orange as well. But it's still the same show, which is more than can be said for most shows that run this long.

  • You ain't shit until you've been on Sesame Street. Sorry American Idol.

  • 16...16! 17... 17! 18...18!!

  • Elmo kissed a dolphin 1996- the best year throughout the timeline

  • Dint like a fire burm

Down big birds home thats why elmo was talking to the fire fighter

  • lol at 2:38

  • 4 peoples nests were destroyed

  • 0.37 What is the name of the man with the hat please :)

Love the good old times so very much. Thank you for sharing.

  • DId 9/11 get big birds home on 3:42

  • Michael Jeter has been dead since before any of the kids watching it now were even born.

  • omg r2d2 in the seasame street

  • OMG!!! WHAT ON EARTH WAS HAPPENING IN 1988?? LOL!!! XD

  • Whoa! The Star Wars robots were on this?

  • @Junsumoto They're called Droids ,sorry had to say it

  • @OldSkoolBBoyEd Haha! I was just typing the same thing before I read your comment, haha!

  • @Junsumoto: They also cameoed on The Muppet Show alongside Chewie and Mark Hamill. After all, Jim Henson and George Lucas had a good relationship, seeing as Yoda was created by the Henson Creature Shop.

  • King of eight 0:15 and that little kid 0:26 hahah wow, old memories!

  • It sucks they can't use Kermit anymore

  • i recongzied sesame street in 2004 or 2003

  • R2D2 and C3P0 was the best thing evar!

  • I wish I was 50 years old now

  • 1:11 Star Wars?

  • Wow Star Wars characters on seasame street the year I was born in 1978 - wow!!!

  • Jim Henson died in 1991

  • Sesame Street 35th Years in 1969-2004

  • Oh yeah? Well I grew up watching this show in the 80's!

  • i grew up watching this show in the 90's

  • LOL... R2 and C-3PO!

  • I Grew-up Watching This Wonderful Show and I hope i can introduce This Show to my two nieces who are 4 months old now, so that they can grow-up watch this, like i have before them.

  • 2:27 - 2:30 The funniest of all! LOL!

  • 2:55 - Cookie Monster's eye falls off!

  • are 2001 and 2002 9/11 related?

  • @darganx: 2001, yes. The Hurricane episode was repeated for Katrina.

  • Thumbs up for changing tv backrounds

  • @kitty6837 I didn't even notice! :D Good catch! Where's the HDTV one? Oh yeah 2004. Let's get those in!

  • Are you doing a timeline from when ss moved to another filming studio or just because you think ss was canceled in 2004, wich it wasnt, they still do eps.

  • @zkx31 Or maybe it was just made in 2004...

  • Something's a bit off. Olivia could not have sung with David in 1974. She did not appear on SS until 1976.

  • OMG!!! i completely 4got Mr. suffilofogus ( or however his name is spelt) existed! He was bigbird's best friend! how could i hav 4gotten him?!?

  • Holy shit, C-3PO and R2-D2 were on Sesame Street!?

  • oh i remember when i used to watch sesame street ... WHWT HAPPENED TO THE COUNT...

    WTF

I DONT WANT TO COUNT WOTH MARRAY OR ABBYS FLYING FAIRY SCHOOL WTF!?

  • My kids really want to see the historic episode when they explain mr. Hooper's death to big Bird. I don't know where to find it since it doesn't seem to be here. We are Henson freaks around here.

  • @wifeofthegreat1L: The user hoopersghost had it, but it was deleted by Lionsgate. Why that is when Sesame Workshop doesn't care if you air its clips, but distributor Lionsgate does.

  • omg that looks scary at 2:40

  • You can see the beginnings of the Elmo takeover in the last few clips. So sad. The initial appeal of Sesame Street in those early years was the ensemble cast. VARIOUS characters (both human & muppet) made it work. Not the antics of a sole muppet. This show meant so much to several generations. It's heartbreaking to see what's become of it nowadays.

  • @PhireMadeFlesh Yeah! i remember Mariya & Lisa & Bob & all the others and i loved them all!!! maybe they couldnt get ppl as good as them to replace them so they just gave up.

  • Bob from a 1973 clip looks a little like Fargo North Decoder from the Electric Company.

  • 2002- I have that on video!

    2003- Lil Wayne?

  • @yb14 no but it looks like lil jj but its not idk who it is

  • @yb14 No-Lil Wayne can't sing!

  • R.I.P. Mr. Hooper. :( I was SO sad when he died. I was 4 at the time.

  • did the king say, "king of aids"?

  • @themegastreetboys No, he said "king of eight".

  • @themegastreetboys LOL!!!

  • OMG A dolphin kissed Elmo!

    YAY!!!!

  • I remember Noggin showing classic Sesame Street episodes late at night..I used to watch it though I was born in 1987

  • this was so much better than BBCTVs Play School which tented to talk down to the viewer, I like Sesame Street becouse it wasn't patranising, you see aswell as being educational it was also enteraining, & paticuley I am big fan of The Muppets

one of my favarett bits was that pin ball mashine

  • Does anyone know whatever happened to John John? He sure was a sweet little thing.

  • @bbwylde He joined the air force when he grew up, but he made a special appearance with Herry in the 'Sesame Street: 20 years and still counting' anniversary special.

  • The clip of the whale kissing Elmo is SO cute.

  • For 1981 they should have included a clip from when Mr. Rogers visited.

  • Elmo ruined Sesame Street. When it was brought in it dumbed the show down and suddenly the viewers were treated like dumb kids instead of young people.

  • This historical anniversary is amazing!!!!! What about a video with clips from 1969-2009?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • That's what I asked, pancake! I've seen a timeline with SS from '69-'09. It went like this: (fades in on dial-TV aka same kind 0:01-1:03 Count hand comes in, clicks dial, TV turns on Sesame Street sign comes on with CTW on top) Count (voiceover): Sesame Street! (large bubble hippy letters & bright colors appear as Count says title) 40 Years Of Sunny Days! (laughs)

  • Then throughout the timeline it goes: Song Of 1 Ernie & Bert: Banana In The Ear, Ladybugs' Picnic, Herry Monster & John-John Count To 20, Grover & Leena Horne: How Do You Do?, the Typewriter: N for Nose, Number Pinball: 7, People In Your Neighborhood, I-Beam*, Telly's first apperance, Star Wars on Sesame Street, 2-Headed Monster: Telephone, Ernie & Bert: Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeere FISHY FISHY FISHY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, Jellyman Kelly explaining Mr. Hooper's death,

  • Smokey Robinson: Thinking Of U, Snuffy Finally Revealed, Put Down The Duckie, Caribbean Amphibian, everyone meets Baby Gabi, Monsterpiece Theater: The King & I, Ceceil The Ball: I'm Gonna Get To You!, What's The Name of That Song?, What A Fabolus Party, C Is For Cookie (opera version), Luxo Jr: Front & Back, 2 Princes, the Fay Family: To Market, Slimey To The Moon, Gospel Alphabet, Elmo & the Goo-Goo Dolls: Pride,

  • Big Bird's Nest Destroyed :, Destisy's Child: A New Way To Walk, Hip Hop ABCs, Trackson Jackson, Elmo & Alica Keys, Abby meets Oscar, Can't Say The Alphabet Enough, Fiest: 1234 &D-Dance.

  • my mom was ten in 1975

  • The sesame street back then was soo sweet and educational...I dont kniow what the hell they make now :-(

  • LOL! R2D2!

  • Why did Jim Henson have to leave us?

    Seriously??????

  • @danceractress96 Jim Henson didn't leave us, he died...

  • I know,that's what I meant.

  • @chocolate11pie: Leaving us is also way of saying he died, you know. XD

  • @TherealRNO Yeah, that was a year ago.

  • i think it's safe to say that we all grew up with this wonderful kids show i watch this just for the nostalgia everything was better when we were kids

  • Can someone upload the TV montages from the DVD "40 Years Of Sunny Days"?

  • The older stuff was always the best, you can tell there's a definite cut off in quality clips at around 1992. (Incidentally, that's when I was born, I must have been watching the old stuff the whole time somehow)

  • They did not show nearly enough kermit clips during this time line. On the show for over 20 yearrs and only has 2 clips. to me, thats disrespecting kermit and Jim

  • Oh my God... So many memories. I was born in 1989, so I was born when Seasme Street was at its 20th season, so I lived like 1/2 of its timeline as of today.

  • 0:58 hahahaha

  • have U noticed that the Tv changes at the years go By?

  • yeeeap, nice!

  • I always found the moving human hands really creepy too. Sesame Street is one the best childrens programmes ever. I am Dutch and here in Holland the show runs very succesfully since the mid 70's. I do not want too sound too preachy, but with the increasing amount of shitty cartoons it is good that there is a show like Sesame Street. Hopefully many future generations of children will have the privilege of growing up with it.

  • What happened to mr hooper, i'm not old enough to remember

  • He died after he recorded a season of the show, and as a tribute, they made an episode explaining his passing.

  • I remember those creepy does with the human hands 0_0

  • @jumpingjackjill I believe that's actress Madeline Kahn

  • does anyone notice that the TV changes through time in the vid

  • Wow, I used to watch this as a kid in the early 80's....I remember the '71 lady bugs picnic song and the '82 teeny little super guy on the glass, the '84 hola means hello song. There was another one not one here called "water wind and sun, helps the world to run with energy for everyone" that taught about power production.

  • '83 '83!!!!!!!!!

  • @67tr876, Mine too, and all the other cartoon skits too. Oh Btw Bert and Ernie was also my Fave too.

  • I like the 1976 one

  • i think they should have used "telephone rock" for the 1974 moment

  • Clips in Timeline Sequence part 2:

    1979: "Born to Add"

1980: Big Bird sings "Wheels on My Feet".

1981: Harry Belafonte sings "The Coconut Counting Man".

    1982: Teeny Little Superguy.

1984: Maria and Luis sing "You Say Hola."

  • When in 1974 did David and Olivia sing The People in Your Neighborhood?

  • (Cont.) which was owned by New Mexico State Univerrsity. But the broadcast frequency of KRWG (Not KWRG as posted earlier) was to weak to be televised in El Paso ( & El Paso was 40 miles from Las Cruces) So the NBC Station in El Psso KTSM TV Began to broadcast Sesame Street in the city of El Paso & was sponsored in part by the El Paso Electric Company from 1969 until 1978 when PBS station KCOS TV ( first aired on ch 7 then switch to ch13 in 1981) came on the air & the rest is history.

  • I wonder what will be in store for Sesame Street when they celebrate thier 40th anniversity this year? Hard to believe that Sesame Street has been entertaining kids for 40 years since 1969 & what weird is that when Sesame Street first started there were not that many Public Television stations in many cities One good example is the city of El Paso Texas. When Sesame Street first came on the nearest Public TV Outlet was a Station in Las Cruces New Mexico with the call letters KWRG

    (continued)

  • it's today :)

  • Clips in Timeline Sequence part 4:

1998: Patrick tells Grover that he is the best monster he has ever met.

    1999: "Furry Happy Monsters"

2002: Elmo tells the fire fighters that he's not scared anymore (Episode 3981).

2003: Miles and the monsters sing the alphabet.

2004: The cast at the end of the special.

  • That's crazy. My mom was 15 when it first aired. I can watch the episodes from the year I was born, the year I completed kindergarten, the year I finished elementary, middle school, high school and the year I graduated college! Now there's a long running show that has affected literally millions of lives. I wonder if my kids will get the pleasure of watching sesame street and barney.

  • I was 5 when Sesame street. first aired...I dont ever remember it not being in my life....Wonderful show...it sure beats half the shows on TV now days....I agree they killed the show when they gave it all to Elmo.....its to much.....I want Ernie and Bert

  • This was the best part in that 2004 episode. I hope they make a documentary for the 40th year in 2009! I hear there'll be a book or two (one is already out) and a new DVD set.

  • Or the best of Sesame Street.

  • 1983 is a very sad moment.

  • It is one of those things that make me cry. They get to 1983 in this clip and I burst into tears.

  • yeah that was big news back then when Hooper died. it was always Hoopers store!

  • The Star wars episodes aired in 1980, not 1978.

  • I really liked the old stuff on sesame street through thoses years and sesame street sucks now I wish it can be like this again and I wish Mr. Hooper did not have to die! :(

  • most powerful: mr hooper's not coming back

  • aww.... it was so cute when elmo kissed the dolphin's nose.

I remember hecka a lot of this stuff

  • Yeah, she's 70 now, but she's still very active

  • Lily Tomlin (the voice of Mrs. Frizzle from The Magic School Bus) will turn 70 on September 1, 2009.

  • Wow, she was Mrs. Frizzle too? AWESOME!

  • This really took me back. It's a really great compilation.

  • Wow, I was born in 1994, and I remember most of these. I think that they must have aired old sesame streets in the 90's.

  • @thomase13: Of course they did. They didn't stop airing them until they moved all the old episodes to Noggin (in 2001, Sesame Workshop opted out of Noggin and created Sprout, on which older episodes--largely those after 2000--air).

  • Though I was born in 1991, my mother kept many videos of the 70's shows and I absolutely love them.

  • Did any one notice that the posts on this video are spelled well as compared to other You Tube video posts? Coincidence? No!

  • Great observation. I've never seen any video that had posts that were this well spelled.

  • At 0:47 - 0:59, my Creative Dramatics teacher was actually in the audience watching them tape that episode with Lily Tomlin singing/signing "Sing!"

  • Those dog guys used to creep me out.

  • I believe that this aired in 204, but each of the clips were filmed at a different time and then put together into this montage. Does that help?

  • lmao star wars

  • That was awsome! I grew up in the 80's and remember ALOT of those clips--thanks for posting!

  • the kid from 0:30 to 0:37 was on kids say the darnest things.

  • Just a teeny little super guy...Man that was my stuff!!

  • lol! 1:11 three pio and artoo!!!!

  • Holy cow, when were R2D2 and C3PO on Sesame Street?!

  • Wow what a great show I used to watch it everyday when I was a kid.

  • Have the Muslims protested this yet?

  • SEEEEEEE!!!! KLAHOMA!!!! I remember that skit!

  • My brother is almost 31 and he still watched Sesame street.

    43:44

  • i cant believe they left out Jim's death in 1990. of course it was tragic but they put in Mr. Hooper's death
