@TheKrustaceox It wasn't supposed to be, but due to time and financial constraints, they released this game and then Sonic and Knuckles eight months afterwards. Those two games together were originally meant to be Sonic 3. Since S&K wound up having lock-on capabilities, playing Sonic 3 attached to S&K together essentially gives you the true Sonic 3 quest.
