hey there zak! thanks so much for posting, I agree to the pros and cons that you talked about and for that reason.. I get really hesitant about taking T as well, its sort of like I want it so badly but when I think of myself in the "male" world it makes me sort of scared the way I may be seen by society and because I am on the feminine side as well, I love fashion and looking nice etc. I can really relate to you and if you want to talk about anything, anytime!
Thanks for the links on stopping T. I looked over the other posts in that community too. It's good to know that it's an option. I've pretty much realized that everyone knows I'm trans now, especially since I changed my name. The only way for me to fly under the radar now is if I pass as male.
You have zero control over other people's reactions or feelings.
Right now you can control how out you are, meaning you can control whether people see you as a girl or a Trans guy. After some time on T, you will still be able to control how out you are, meaning you will be able to control whether people see you as a cis guy or a Trans guy.
As to your concerns about extended family, your parents are on your side. Talk to them about it.
Stopping T is not bad for your health. See community[dot]livejournal[dot]com/ftm/tag/t-stopping and community[dot]livejournal[dot]com/stopping_t/ .
I REALLY do not recommend gel. It works okay for some guys for maintenance, but a lot of people (myself included) find that it doesn't get into your system at all. See ftmichael[dot]transboys[dot]info/diary.html for my experience on patches, gel, and shots. You have WAY more control over your dose with shots than with gel, also.
There is no "traditional" way to represent gender. You are who you are and that's it. :)
