  • That's my second cousin. I think he had an uncle named Uncle Hamp. Uncle Hamp was my great uncle. He and my dad were cousins. I know Arlie was a much better man than what my dad was!

  • Arlie Duff taught algerbra to me in 1952 or 1953 at Deweyville High School in Deweyville, Texas. He was singing this song to us at that time. Later on Bing Crosby used this song on his TV show. Norma Rawls

  • He used to come to our track meets back in the late 90's and watch every race!!

  • Great to see a young Bob Moore and Grady Martin in action!!

Bob was definitely working the neck toward the end !

  • I think Duff has a very unique way of performing, especially in those days!

  • Hot dog! The bass player's ON FIRE!

Wonderful video, Arlie was a legend.

  • I love this song. It's fun. I love the version on the 'I Love Lucy' episode with Ernie Ford that they did at the end. They changed some of the lyrics though and it was so funny!

  • What a lovely song ... and how the messages above great .... from your Irish fan over here in England .. Thanks Seamus

  • What a great version!! Tomorrow, (Thanksgiving) we'll be "eatin' everything from soup to hay" !! I love this song, and the enthusiasm of Arlie Duff and the guys in the band!

  • Great clip!

My dad grew up in Warren, also moved to Nederland. (they're both home to me). Arlie was always spoken so real highly of, all the time. Loved his records, but here you see he's a real showman as well. Talk about a character! Great man! Thanks so much for this one!

  • I used to hear this all the time when I was a kid. Loved it. Arlie is quiet the showman. God forgiuve me but he reminds me a bit of Kenneth Copeland ha ha.

I ran into another recording of his later that I never heard on the radio. But it also was real good. "I dreamed of a hillbilly heaven" on one side and "Lie detector" on the other. Wish you could post those. five *****

  • This is my secound cousin. He grew up in Warren, later he moved to Nederland. He also became a DJ at KVET, in Austin,Texas. Awesome. I like to write lyrics when I'm in the mood. Now I know where I get it from.

  • HEY< This is my second cousin. He later was a DJ for KVET in Austin, Texas. I'm from SE Texas. He grew up in Warren, and moved to my home town, in SE Texas. He also wrote a book called Jack's Branch. I have written lyrics in the past, and gave them to a few song writers on line. Now, I don't give out my lyrics to anyone. I do know where I got the talent from. :) I love this video. I have not been able to find any of his records. Thank you !

  • i aways love this song

  • Thinking exactly the same thing....

  • I'm so glad that the cameramen showed Arlie Duff's boots instead of Grady Martin's Bigsby.

  • @DonJulioBlanco2002 You're sooo right! (Irony!)

  • che razza di musica

  • Loved seeing this video. Was friends with Arlie's son in high school and visited the home many times, but knew little about Arlie's successful songwriting. Do remember the gold records on the wall. :)

  • I remember Mr. Duff watching our track meets at Nonnewaug!! He was always on the last straightaway :-)

  • Arlie Duff paved the way for Country Musicians today! The man who gave George Jones his start in the business, the Legendary Pioneer of Country Music shows here why everybody knows the hit 'Ya'll Come', and everybody loves its creator, the charismatic, electric showman, the true 'Texas Cowboy', The 'Singing School Teacher,' The Red Hawg,' Arlie Duff!! What an amazing performance - watch him light up the stage, from the first grin, the first note. God Bless Arlie Duff! YA'LL COME!

  • What a fun song!

  • This is great

  • I really want to use this song at the end of my reception for my wedding! =D

  • @adcooper21 That's a great idea

  • I worked with Arleigh at KVET in Austin from 1973 to 1977. He used to call me Baby Dumplin because I was a 21 year old kid when I worked with Arleigh. What a character!!! Great video!

    Steve Weldon

  • Hi Baby D:

So good to hear from someone who knew Dad! He was a character!

    Becky

  • Very cool comment! He loved his days at KVET - and I used to love riding in the 'KVET' car, as we called it. I'm his son. Thanks again! Joey

  • @joeyduff007 Hey Joey, if you're his son, then you are my third cousin. If that matters. I found out a few years ago that Arlie was my secound cousin. He passed away in 97, I think. I'm sorry he passed away. :( Wished I had gotten to know him.

  • @SasyTequila I'm sorry I never saw this, how are you? So where are you from and how are we related? So cool, thanks for the post!

  • Hello Nate:

Congrats on your Starday book! You were kind enough to send me Dad's pic. Isn't this video the best? I didn't know one this old existed, and I was thrilled when I saw it the first time.

  • This guy is soo good man I <3 him lol long time!

  • This is so awesome this is my cross-country coaches dad and he (my coach) found this on youtube and showed it to us, its scary how much they look alike. He was one hell of a singer though May he rest in peace.

  • This makes it official. There is no style of music on youtube I don't like.

    Yall Come..

  • now thats what iam talkin about....lots of energy and just lovin what he is doing...

  • The yall come song was a great hit, then he wrote a song entitled "Poor Old School Teacher" that song got him in hot water with the school board, and kinda ended his teaching career, but not before he spanked me good. There are many stories about your Dad in Warren, Texas

  • Hi Lloyd, Arlie's other daughter here. I'd love to hear your stories about Dad! Are you any relation to Herman (Moon) Mullins?

  • I think I might have a story about your dad, apparently him and my grandpa used to be hunting buddies and Arlie gave my papaw some huntin' dogs.

  • Dad was big into bird dogs (or "dawgs" as he called them.) What is your Grandpa's name?

  • Kristy, I like you was so elated to see this video of your dad. I knew your dad very well, he taught me in school, he and his sister and dad sang at our school at Warren Texas. I was raised about 2 miles from their old homestead, which is still standing today.

  • Thanks Jerry, I love hearing the old stories about my Dad! Kristy Duff

feel free to add anymore you happen to remember!

  • Jerryg, what did that self title mean? Kristy

  • funkalishes I guess by self title , you mean "The Piney Woods Rooters Club " As I recall (50 years have passed) it was a club for ALL country music lovers , you see , Country wasn't always cool . KPIK was the first C/W station

in that area . And this was the Rock & Roll era . Your Dad , Little Herbie Hoflicker ,

Jay ??????? , made it fashionable to enjoy country . He would dedicate songs to ALL PINEY WOODS ROOTERS .

  • I just have to say, THANKYOU, THANKYOU, THANK YOU to whoever posted this video!! I'm one of Arlie's nine kids and we have never before seen him on stage in his heyday. For me personally, it's a dream come true. I've always wished I could've seen him on stage and this surpassed my wildest imagination. Again thanks from Arlie's kin for sharing this video,,,to us it's priceless!

  • funkalishes -- Happy to do it -- your dad was a great, great artist. Pappy

  • Well, again thank you! How in the world did you come across this video? and any relation to Pappy Daly?

  • funkalishes - no relation - I wish! I've just been collecting video a loonnng time ;-)

  • @funkalishes HEY, I bet we are related. Arlie Duff is my second cousin. Granny was my grandma. Email me back.

  • @funkalishes My dad's name is Robert. I can't post a lot of info on this thing. There's a road in Big Sandy. The road is named after my grandpa. He passed away a long time ago with colon cancer. My dad grew up in those piney woods. We use to go out there. My dad use to own land there. He kept the oil and mineral rights. He passed away in 2008. We have a lot of cousins. I grew up not knowing a lot of my relatives. I use to have a great uncle. His name was Uncle Hamp, I hope to hear from you.

  • @funkalishes awwww I have some of Arlie's tunes on a compilation. play them on my radio show and they get good reaction. God Bless!

  • @funkalishes ........... What a lovely story

  • I listened to Arlie on a daily basis when he was a D.J. at Radio Station KPIK in Colorado Springs Colorado , back in the 50's . He and the other D.J.'s formed an "on air club" called THE PINEY WOOD ROOTERS CLUB . Where did those days go ?

  • Nice!

  • Fantastic!
