  • I'm in Love with Joanna Newsom!

  • Thank you. Thank you. Thank you!!! :))

  • the last section (from about 7:37 on) is so good!

  • I refuse to talk about my own musical taste, as I am irrelevant. However, I am not typically a fan of this music, and I'm sure many others agree, this is worth breaking tradition and exploring another genre for Joanna and her wonderful talent.

  • @urbanburglary My thoughts EXACTLY.

  • @peoniesfleur If Joanna Newsom is boring, then that would make Katy Perry GOOD. Urgh, what an utterly horrid thought.

  • Come on people. Don't fight on a Joanna video. She's too good for that. If the haters want to stupidly comment on something this beautiful, then let them. At the end of the day, they're the ones missing out on this fantastic music. If they don't have any heartstrings that can be powerfully tugged by Joanna and her songs, then let them fuck off to thier cold little world.

  • this is seriously genius... her music is really in a league of it's own. her work is genuine, no bullshit about it... beautiful through and through. i love a lot of genres but she is just so special. it really hit me especially towards the end how original and "brave" she is

  • I'm speechless.

  • i honestly think i'm in love........ :)

  • Reminds me of Ellie Goulding (in a VERY good way)

  • @Eseress You don't have any class or sophistication or you were brought up in a barn. People with sophistication can use other vocabulary words other than curse words. You have a small vocabulary and you know nothing about music. It is sad.

  • @Eseress Keep drinking your fluoride in the water, it has lowered your I.Q

You are uneducated and extremely stupid. I feel sorry you.

  • Standard chords, progressions, standard arpeggios, and basic instrumentation. She is very uncreative, boring and uninteresting...BLAH

  • @Eseress Americans are mentally and intellectually challenged. They wouldn't know good music if it hit them in the face hard. That is why Van Der Graaf Generator is not playing in this country and I have to travel six hours to see them in Montreal. You are a braindead, culturally illiterate American who can't speak English either.

  • @Eseress You are a typical braindead American. Most people around the world know how stupid the people are in this country. That is why I am traveling into Montreal to see Van Der Graaf Generator in July. They don't have a gig in this podunk country of stupid, ignorant hillbilles. Go listen to "Scorched Earth, " by Van Der Graaf Generator on youtube. Americans are tonedeaf, ignorant, dumb and everyone knows it.

  • @Eseress You are a horrible, hillbilly. I know where you live you hick. You live in some podunk, nowhere town and you are an ignorant redneck who doesn't even live in a city. You are an ignorant person. You live in some hillbilly town in CT...with no idea what the real world is about. Sad for you, ignorant redneck from a country town in CT.

  • @Eseress I don't time for ignorant rednecks who have small vocabularies.

  • @Eseress I have friends in San Francisco who are DJ's who can't stand Joanna Newsom..

She is not an acquired taste, she is for people who know nothing about music and for ignorant rednecks. Her music is lifeless, basic, ordinary and bland. Her use of instrumentation is basic and uncreative. I love Van Der Graaf Generator. You are an unexciting redneck.

  • @Eseress You love only people who have genetic problems and people who are intellectually challenged and mentally challenged. It is safe for you since your brain is as myopic as your foul mouth.

  • @peoniesfleur Yep.

  • @Eseress You don't even live near Porland. You live near NO major city anywhere. You are in the middle nowhere in some podunk town using your foul hick language to people talking about Newsom who is a primitive artist, not a developed talent like Van Der Graaf Generator. You are a hick. Do you have your mule with you hickboy?

  • @peoniesfleur Yeah, I do. His name is Alfred. Say hick again, please. It gets me horny. Also, mention Van Der Graaf Generator a hundred more times, because I haven't seen those words in so long. I'm sure glad I'm not as primitive as you with your repetitive word choices. I'm just a dumb dumb hickboy who don't know anything and am illiterate and American and aw shucks. :(

  • @Eseress At least you call a spade a spade. You live in some podunk hick town forty miles north of Portland and that isn't even a major city. Not really.

The cultural level of this country is rock bottom. I have been to Washington. I liked Seattle and and Vancouver. The people are redneck and hillbilly for the most part. Their culture ideals are not high. San Francisco is a little higher, but the east coast is a little better still. Gentle Giant comes to NY and Van Der Graaf comes to Montreal

  • @peoniesfleur sure maybe a late reply. But I don't appreciate one track minded people, who seem to know nothing outside this Van Der Graaf Generator, accusing 330,000,000 men and women of having no taste in music. I understand you like your music, but Joanna has a fresh and very spellbinding voice that I've never known anyone else to compare to. I'm not trying to be a hypocrite. I'm only saying this girl can make me cross the boundaries of one genre to another and fall in love.

  • is it just me or she is being a bit English on 2:22

  • is she drunk

  • @40kDakota are you a retard?

  • @Ragz25T at 9 seconds she gazes at someone and she is either drunk or mega tired

  • @Ragz25T 7 seconds actually

  • @40kDakota ............

  • I always get goosebumps while listening to this.

  • I cant even watch this in public unless i wanna fucking cry in front of everybody.....

  • her voice sounds very Ys here, as opposed to her hoom voice, did anyone else notice that too? i mean i know the song is from ys but it feels like her old voice again. anyway beautiful as always

  • @ptercottontail She had nodules on her vocal chords or something like that before her "Have One On Me" album, which is why I assume she sounds different, and it seems like she's trying extra hard to sing as it sounded in Ys. So beautiful!! She's definately dedicated!

  • @CantSeeTheStars i made the comment because of the fact that her voice did change, and normally you can hear it not just on the album but live too. here it sounds more like it used to which is what was interesting to me

  • First one to dislike this video :)

  • @Chadvlogs why do you find the need to dislike it, troll

  • Maravilhoso!!! Lindo demais.

  • Can anyone transcribe what the crowd is saying at the beginning that has Joanna laughing?

  • @Kivalt I think in the beginning some people are requesting that she played "Peach Plum Pear" and she humorously puts them off... but unfortunately I don't understand what the guy in the crowd says which makes her laugh... must've been some witty response or something...

  • She is one of best songwriters of all time. Her live shows are amazing.

  • She reminds me of Peter Gabriel or Dave Matthews......I like it!

  • when she sang "you make your first incision" it sent shivers down my spine

  • i have posted on this video before, but it must happen again

    unbelievable performance, soooooooooo good.

  • lol #3:00

  • I'm seriously crying too. This video is perhaps nekro in quality but it's certainly superb artistically.

  • No TeeVee & no radio=Genius?

  • This is the best song since "Day in the Life." It's going to go down in history, in history has any sense.

  • notice how she changes it from "do you wait for me there?" to "will you wait for me there?" as if she already knows he's waiting, but it's only a question of how long will he wait for her. bill callahan?

  • @sammyenn i think ill and do are basically interchangeable. And to say that she's still pining for Callahan at this point is a bit of a stretch. Have One On Me is almost a 'well, fuck you' to Callahan in some places.

  • @Uktrayf I mean, as lifelong friends. Not for romance. Because I think there's always a part of us that still longs and remembers who we've been in love with.

  • Shooooooot. So good. I felt like exploding.....especially at the end.

  • WHAT A WOMAN!

  • she always looks off into the distance when she says "waves, which are pawing like dogs", like she sees them. i think that when she sings this, she's surrounded by very particular visions of old memories and imaginings

  • she loves this song so much, i think it might actually be her favourite

  • I miss the high pitched shriek

  • typical youtube.....never heard of her... clicking related video's.....

into watching the fourth clip of her now, and i'm still trying to wrap my mind around it....

    those are the interesting artists...

  • Joanna and Jónsi should get together and start a race of almighty singing elves...

  • @Andunemir wait, Joanna writes this masterpiece and all she gets is 'elf'?!

  • @baermtn Not a fan of the books of The Lord of the Rings, I'm guessing?

  • Incredible.

  • Dear God, why couldn't I be born a lesbian?

  • there is nothing like this

  • JESUS CHRIST that was good

  • This is one of the best performances of this I've seen from her. Amazing.

  • This is the most amazing live performance I've seen of any song, from any band, ever.

How you can tell every word is an emotional struggle for her to sing, how her harp and the words clearly just become a part of her.. Blimey! I'm crying partly because this is the most beautiful thing I've ever heard, and partly because I wasn't there.

  • @EmmysSecretVideos yeah! when you listen to ys you can actually hear parts in certain songs where she's about to cry/choking up

  • @EmmysSecretVideos Spot on, exactly what you said! Go check the YouTube vid entitled 'Joanna Newsom, Baby Birch, Melkweg Rabozaal, May 30, 2010'. That, along with this, is the (other) most amazing live performance I've seen of any song, from any band, ever. Enjoy!

  • there's something about that added "you know" [desire] at the end that makes this extra fucking awesome

  • beyond perfect.

  • @vonnytron

hum... beyond perfect indeed : in my opinion this is "too much".
