I was 12 years old and living in Japan when this came out. (My dad was in the Air Force) I remember the original Santo & Johnny version very well. This version is just as good as the original.

Every Saturday night at 8 Armed Forces Radio had a show called "the Top Twenty" and they would play top hits from back home.

The Shadows version is much smoother and listenable compared to the clunky, bare, squeaky whining of the original. It has more fill and depth.

This is the way it should be played - interpreted properly with a Strat!

santo and johnny s version still can never be duplicated For 1 every other version has trouble mastering it note for note. Secondly they cant match its mystery eerieness and thirdly vant duplicate its warmth and sexiness. People can draw comparisons all they want but this is simply incomparably the best.

This turned out to be a real easy song to transcribe to guitar. Both lead and rhythm.

A good song to learn just for fun. Takes a while to setup the effects.

Certainly, there's no comparison between the sustain of the slide vs. the sustain of the bare fingers w/ delay (echo). This boils down to personal preference. The slide produces warmly longer notes while Hank's slow hand gives out haunting melodies from a mountain top. Thanks for posting.

i know this was originaly done by santo and johnny in 1959. but hanks ghostly echo sound on this shadows version from 1961 is by far way better in my mind beautiful and bruce.s rythum playing
