A note for bird photographers: As with marine mammals, people are supposed to keep their distance from birds, especially those protected under the Migratory Bird Act. As an avian expert once told me, if your presence alters their behavior, you're too close. Birds need space to rest and to warm themselves, or they may seek land because they're injured or ill.
