its a joke when you see people writing comments trying to compare a crf to the reliability of the yz 5valve 450 i have seen yz s do 150hr plus without any top end maintenace in our shop where crfs and others are stuffed at 40hrs there is nothing at all and never will be as reliable as the yz 5valve engine.

@Renfighter23 but yamaha has a five valve head 1 more than the honda and yamaha has 2 cams instead of hondas 1 cam. by the time you have all of hondas mantinence when it comes time to rebuild your bike the yamaha will cost just as much as the honda

@Loremusten they are pretty much the same size. The 250f would probably be a better idea though cause of power. You have to keep the 125 pinned all the time, or else ur not going anywhere in a hurry lol and the yz250f is a bit of a slower 250f as well. But handling is great

Ktms are surely the best bikes out there. Im gonna be getting a 2009 KTM xc250f, its an amazing bike compared to the wr250. dont get me wrong the wr250 is a good bike, but the xc250f blows it out of the water in terms of power

@DJM0nstrosity ya but i have an older 250f wich is actualy biger than the 450 in seat hight and amazingly it weighs more to so it felt like a step down size whise but in preformence is crazy diff i went from 1 gear to 5 on one wheeil becaus im so damn light for it plus it turns on a dime ive rode all the new 450f for 09 and the yz is the best for someone my size because of how smooth compared to the crf with is kinda more snapy and it liked to come up in the ruts and liked to buck me off

i love my fucking Yamaha YZ450F. i got mine at malcom smith motorsports for 6 grand and its the best money i have ever spent but i still like my CRF, but the YZ is a lil better, i love the response from the throttle its amazing!!!!

keep in mind that a 450F will rip your arms out after a 125. I went 125, 250F then 450... only keep the 250F for 1 year tops though and you wont spend too much on it.

i say get an 09 yz250! stay 2 stroke if u want a bike with little maintenance. 4 stroke motocross bikes are a bitch to keep in top running shape. you practically have to shim the valves every ride its a pain in the cock

i have a 2003 YZ450F andit was hard to start when it was hot first when i bought it. people have to remember theres a certain knack to starting a 4 stroke. every one has it own little knack. once you get used to the bike, starting it hot is no different than starting it cold...the worst bike ever for starting hot is the YZ426, but once u get used to it, its no problem.....

i would like to get a new 09 bike like a CRF or YZ, but i found a smokin deal on a 03 YZ 450. its a dealer hold over, never ridden. as much as i'd like to keep up with the times i just can't pass this bike up for the price. i hope the quality of the 03 is just as good as the new bikes.

The steel framed Yamaha's (01-05) are dinosaurs compared to the Aluminum framed bikes made today. Make sure you clean the oil filter in the frame, I blew up my 03 Yz250f from not cleaning that. Good luck!

thanks for the reply. i agree with you on the aluminum frames being nicer. the yamaha YZ450 i looked at is a new dealer hold over and they want about $3,400. its a 04, i was incorrect saying it was a 03 in my last comment. i would like a 08 or 09 but i just can't pass this deal up. you said something about cleaning the oil filter in the frame, i take it dirt off the frame can get into the filter port in the engine easy or its hard to get to?

You'll wash it all off with a power washer no problem, I was just lazy and never cleaned that filter. You should have no problem with that bike though, and awesome find for 3,400! Try talking them down to 3000.

mate do u own a ktm? or a new one? if not then u would know that the only thing thats more expensive is the hydraulic clutch on a ktm, which is better anyway, and besides ktms are way more trick any way like the brembo brakes, and the factory standard v force three reed valve. mate i think u need to reasess.

well if your mom or dad doesn't want to spend that much money (money issue) gewt a 250F wich i recommend CRF250R or YZ250F test drive at dealers, if money isnt an issue, like i said look at the YZ450F more for comfort reliability suspension, look at the CRF450R for a little more power all round, handling suspension gets annoying.
