The problem with BBC isn't the engine, but the availability of a decent chassis to install it in. Ultima GTR could be one.
In any case, I've had quite a few big blocks over the years, in a variety of vehicles. From fairly standard old school L88:s to tall deck Merlin monsters, but I still prefer RB26 (in 3.2-3.4l stroker configuration, please) in an AWD chassis for almost anything but drag racing and marine applications.
And for most boats, it'll be 2nd after Yanmar LY3-series diesels.
You give an american guy engine with 575 cubic inches and you'll get 620hp and you give the same displacement to a german guy and you'll get at least 100hp per liter(min. 940hp), and with less fuel consumption. Of course, this refers to factory made engines, stock ones. I'll never understand Americans...
Well, okay. But you can't blame the whole nation because of few idiots that risen to power in some period of history. For instance, you cant blame whole Serbia because of crimes that handfull of Serbs commited in Kosovo. And Germans invented almost every good and quality thing. And Nikola Tesla, who was Serbian and christian orthodox invented electricity and also one Serb, Mihajlo Pupin, made possible long distance phone calls.
@pa3op89nbg so dont knock american engine guys. 620hp is the basic config for the 572. you can do alot to them. imports are another type of beast. were talking about a carbed pushrod v8s. and id like to see an import engine cost anywhere near a crate motor lol
That is true, Germans are more efficient and their stuff has a lot more precision engineering in it. But, if BMW or Benz was selling engines such as these no doubt they would cost double easily. GM gives the 572 to enthusiasts who want to use it as a strong base for high performance track racing. Its not a factory option.
@pa3op89nbg To understand american engines: you get big displacement and limited breathing flow from simple 2 valve (and very light) heads, with one single camshaft and pushrods. It´s very cheap, simple, reliable and can get abused day after day for years and years. In Germany they would put 4 valves per cilinder and two camshafts in each bank of cilinders, adding cost, complexity, size and weight to the big flow heads. Not to mention the center of mass of the engines, lower in american V8s.
@philbitu And to understand european engines: brutal power, enormous amounts of torque, mega acceleration and top speed with perfect steering and handling and with MUCH lower CO2 emission and fuel consumption and all that with unmatched sofistication!
@pa3op89nbg At a price that few people can afford. No one looking for performance is worried about CO2 emissions and fuel consumption, but yes, you can get them both if you choose a regular E-Rod package from GM Performance Products, a 6,3 litre small block LS3 with over 400 horsepower, at a size and weight that no regular production naturally-aspirated engine can match or beat. Steering and handling have nothing to do with the enigne itself.
I wanna put one of those in my truck. The fastest far my town is a cammed 2002 WS6 with a 100 shot. I'm pretty sure I can beat that with one of these and a 200 shot, with Proflow EFI deal from Edelbrock. Keep the quiet exhaust (with cutouts) for the sleeper effect.
LOL to the rice burner fanboys who think their RB26 is better then a 572
REALITY CHECK
the RB is pushing its limits at 1200 HP, it's nowhere near reliable enough for calm minded daily driving.
The worlds fastest street legal car has that 572 with a twin turbo setup pushing 2200 HP, and its this guys track monster as well as daily driver. 0 to 60 in 1 second flat. quarter mile in under 8 seconds. You cant beat that with a daily driven RB26 cuz it cant push that much power reliably
Nope, They'll have to be melted and drawn into sheets. They're too big to be paperweights, they're too light to be paperweights, they won't sink well enough, they won't float well enough, They're saturated with oil, so they'll be contaminated and weakened if you melt them down, too heavy to ship too big to store They're just useless.
This motor is badass and so is an rb26 with 1200hp, I think you need to take your bitch ass to the shooting range or maybe the gym to blow off some steam before you cry or something
people all i have to say is i have this engine in my 89 caprice with the same headers with str8 back pipes and it scares the shit out my neighbors everytime i come in front of my house with it in the summer they say its a demon from hell how it sounds lolzzz
Better belive it. It just means id rather buy American that japs. Where did you get that comment from someone else? Bet you did. Can't even come up with something better thats why it took you 3moths to come up with something. When you couldn't you used someone elses comment.
ya but the 572 is naturally aspirated. That 6 cylinder has turbos the size of a civic. Put a magnacharger or a twin turbo on the 572 and than see what happens.
It might as well be a million horse if you can't get it to hook up. The nice thing is that this motor will eat rice burners up all day and the life of the motor is much greater. Why try to make 1000hp over four cylinders when you can do it with eight at the same cost or even less, and then actually have something thats not a grenade.
I drive an honda and i guess you can say riced out mercedes. As the guy in my year book said in his senior quote "I would rather push a chevy than drive a ford"
That motor stock has 700 horsepower and 750 ft/lbs torque. Supercharge it and it would probaly push anywhere from 900-1600 horses depending on how much air you want it to breath. High performance cams, NOS, fuel air chips, etc could easily get this motor well over 2000 horsepower.
fuck ya, a buddy of mine has an old caddy 572 in a 68GMC step-side, runs just shy of 10's in a 1/4mile, major major tourqe almost like 650 or so ftlbs

On the plus side, RB26's do make great boat anchors!

RB26's are made of aluminum, They're too light to be a boat anchor, and they're too weak to be worth a damn.

@upshiift That might be true dude :P but anyway 572 twin turbo has got to empty the tank pretty fast :D

@upshiift That 572 twin turbo is not reliable at all. It faces all of the same problems as any turbocharged motor.
