  • Hindemith is the best composer!!

  • powerful music

    thank you so much

  • This is awesome- combines two of my favourite types of music; ones with interesting harmonies and ragtimes...

  • not good...

  • I like Hindemith's style! He has kind of done a cubist version of ragtime- if you will- but there is something there underneath it all!

  • HE WAS SPECIALLY GENIUS on German & Russian composers...Richter was half Russian (mother ) half German ( father ...murdered, innocent victim of stalinism...)

  • What happens when Scott Joplin does meth? Oh yeah! 5*

  • @EdwardWhelanPiano What a totally worthless comment & observation.

  • @composer333, worthless like your presence on this website? Get lost troll.

  • Das soll Richter sein ? Sehr unsauber und langsam - war er senil ?

  • IMHO this is the right speed...Anna Gourari performed too fast

  • More in common with Schönberg than with the Hindemith I know. A composer (Hindemith) I find difficult to love, but whom I admire greatly.

  • Hindemith was young when this was written. If you know his music you can tell there is something here. One must listen to his later music, and then you can see the genius of this man.

  • listen closely and it is actually full of various and carefully chosen chord and tonal structures.

  • Exactly. Such a mess! Morricone rules!

  • @jadroe Don't you understand what 1922 was like for the German composers? You are certainly out of touch with the milieu this piece was written. It is not unlike Roussolo and the "Art of Noise" of the Italian Futurists. Get informed before you say such idiotic things.

  • this is not the only piece where there is a blatant African American influence in it...

  • it is influenced my ragtime- certainly more than 'mushing the keys', you have a go at playing it.

  • yep.

  • Großartig

  • Ragtime, is a way to compose music. Following a certain sheme, a rythm and a way to play the piano (drum-like).

This has not your beloved nice harmonies and generall easy listening melodies, but it at least meets the critera of being Ragtime.

  • I Suppose It Meets The Criteria, Barely, Because It Doesn't Seem To Follow The March Format, or That Specific Type Syncopation With Melodic Accents Occurring Between Metrical Beats.

But My Real Question "Why?" When You Can Just Call I Some Generic Form of Classical Piano Playing.

  • Syncoped Left Hand Melody - check

March like chord hammering in right hand (drum like) - check

As I dont know how to be more precise or talk about what I hear without you sitting near me at the same time, nor do I know how to give you a detailed analysis of the notes in youtube comment format (- I dont have them as well). I think we reached a point where we have to agree to disagree.

  • Ah Ha! Now I Know Why It Sound Odd, Thank you, The Right Hand Is Supposed To Be Syncopated, And Left Hand Supposed To Have Base Beats Using Cords Or Octaves.

I Suppose I Can Enjoy This Dramatic-Classical Form Of Ragtime.

  • My Real Question Is... Why Do You Type Like This? That Has To Slow You Down. It's Definitely Slowing Me Down. Not To Mention The Intrinsic Grammar Issues It Raises. There Is No Logical Reason To Ever Type By Capitalizing Every Single Word. Also, The Ragtime Form Is Not Particularly Formulaic Or Rigid; In Fact, It Is Fairly Free As Long As It Meets A Couple Select Parameters.

  • I play piano, so I'm use to keeping my pinky on a Certain Key On A Keyboard, I Only Type In Such A Fashion On YouTube, For Some Reason I Think It Makes For Easier Reading.

I will have to admit to your point on Ragtime, I just never heard a whole Ragtime piece played in dramatic style, they usually just dip in dramatic arpeggios, But this has that "weird and intoxicating" effect that good Ragtime should.

  • @John11inch In the 18th century English had a certain Germanic use that would on occasion, allow the Capitalization of a Word for emphasis, especially nouns.. I do agree with you---every word being Capitalized is just silly.

  • This sounds more like ragtime than Stravinsky's piano rag music.

  • it is very Stravinsky...especially when you that constant low B natural in the left against the dissonance in the left...very characteristic of Stravinsky...

  • Excellent!!!!!!! Again thanks for posting!

  • his sontatas for piano aren t woth touching but his flute sonata and trombone are as are some of the tonalis thingis and this also i think

  • are you dissing hindemith?!?!?!?!?!?!

  • no I meant to say after that they were worth listening to. the flute sonata Trombone and oboe beautiful and a couple of the Ludus Tonalis are nice too. I have re written in proper logic now sorry.

  • hahahah lol...oh ok...i have his ludus tonalis on my website....freedomainlibrarydotblogspotdotcom
