This is nothing more than disaster porn. Half of the people commenting sound like they'd pay to see pit bulls fight. I guess it's ok now, everyone got their quick fix. I just love to see some of these pretend to love nature types would behave if they seen a bear, or a crocodile or, some kind of deadly snake. They wouldn't waste a second to get out of there. No other animal will go to the extremes humans will go to in order to defend their own bullshit actions.
the uploader did the right thing and let nature take its course. if you removed the mantis then youre interfering with the circle. lions gotta eat the zebra, sharks gotta eat the seal, its the way of the world. beauty doesnt get you a free pass.

How did the mantis get onto the humming bird feeder...did you place it there for the for the sake of the video? It sure looks like you did. Humming birds are beautiful. So are praying mantis, but not when you stage stuff for a 50 sec video.
This video was not staged. I have hummingbird feeders all up and down my porch. The praying mantis got up there on its own. When I saw it, I set up my video camera and recorded for almost TWO days. We live in the country. Every species has a predator. It's called the circle of life.
@aggiemomrulz You remind me of that photographer who followed the little black child filming as he went while a vulture was stalking the child, he let the vulture attack and kill her, got a nobel peace prize and then topped himself the following year. You claim to like humming birds, but don't mind filming a mantis stalking. You're no better than that Photo Journalist. Have a great one.
totally unrelated how dare you talk to this person like this and describe them in such a bad comparrison. The mantis has seen an oppertunity and taken it. A person is quite different then a bird and if you cant distinguish then go back to school.
@Vyocae I bet if there was a crocodile underneath your porch, you'd be the first to call for help? Life is life. Why put out feeders and then film the demise of a Humming Bird. Just let nature take its course... don't interfere at all. What is the difference between a dead human being and a dead Humming Bird, or a dead Praying Mantis for that matter. Would you interfere if you seen someone about to walk out into on coming traffic? if yes, why??
So you want a human to steal a bug's food just because you don't like the fact that the bug has to eat or it dies? Get over it and seriously get out of your house if you feel that way. There's a big difference between something needing to kill to survive and a man made car hitting an animal/human too. There's also a difference in animal rights and just being flat out ignorant.
@B1N4RYGH0ST They already do. The OP already said that she has ",,,hummingbird feeders all up and down my porch." The birds could have just gone to another feeder.
@B1N4RYGH0ST I've had a praying mantis dive-bomb me when I was working as a lifeguard at a public pool...they can go anywhere a bird can go without any troubles.
@VamYang Adult Praying mantis can fly, it is very likely that praying mantis got there on its own. Those insects are amazing!! Thank God, they are very small compared to us...
HE got it!!! he was sitting there waiting to catch one! Not to be gruesome... but needed video of the rest... just to show that he did, infact sucessfully catch the bird. Impressive!

There is no conceivable way the mantis ate that bird. In fact it probably didn't survive the fall and the ensuing struggle

Still- I saw him nab that birdie.
Great upload. Great quality. Too bad there's no carnage, right? I'm sure that's what most of us wanted. But, its a good video.
Cheers, for filming one bug for two days.
