  • man...Robert De Niro sure can play guitar!

In all seriousness though, I've seen a few of your videos now and I've been totally blown away. I've seen a lot of videos of players on Youtube playing standards, but there's such a blatantly apparent difference in players like you, and every day guys...the music is just worlds apart. Yours being on a totally higher level, of course.

Although, I didn't particularly like the...uh..."ghosted" double time lines, but that's beside the point. You're great.

  • @acidbug Haha not sure what you mean by ghosted double time lines. Do you mean the softness in volume? If you do it's because years ago I decided to use the round edge of the heave pick instead of the pointed, more percussive. It's kind if a trade-off - mellow thumb-like sound vs percussive technique. In certain situations however, I go the other way and go for the more percussive "speedy" effect. If you would like a sample of this let me know via my email.

Oh, worry not, in the time between my post and your reply, I was well acquainted with all your other approaches (at least those showcased in some of your other videos), as creepy as it may sound...I guess the only way to really put it is...well...I'm watching you.

I'd be delighted to see your perform Body and Soul, Green dolphin street and What is this Thing Called Love!

Thank you for sharing your videos and music with the world.

  • @acidbug Hello again. OK I'll see what I can do with your requests. I don't do what is this thing called love but I can learn it. It's been a while since I put up new solo videos but people have been asking me so I will get off my ass and do some more. Thanks for your comments.

  • Do you have an alternate harmony/chord substitution book I can purchase?

  • This is a deep subject to which I don't see any rules other than wisdom of musical taste while preserving the integrity of a composition. Therefore, anything I would write would be philosophical in nature. Depending on style I was arranging in, I would use different harmonic choices but always preserving the integrity of the composition. On the fly, like this video, I just grab what I hear in the moment. I do seem to fly by the seat of my pants however. For me, that's jazz. in the moment. :)

  • Really great playing and feel Steve.

    Thanks for posting this.
