  • Here Shyam means 'Self-Relization' or 'Self-attainment' and Raina(night) means flowing time. When spiritual person works hard to reach at that stage, and achievement is getting delayed.... This is what the real meaning...Meera has created Bhajans with same meaning... no religion, pure spirituality..

  • @vsshah71 hats off 2 u 4 making the real sense of the wonderful song come before all of us!

  • Magical lata and genius rd

  • guys......... so, you all vote for Rajesh ji for acting in this song scene?????..... but XCUSE ME... MY VOTE GOES FOR Sharmila ji.....

  • Although in the song, I did not hear the words about some other woman stopping his way towards her but in lyrics spread all over internet, there's a mention of that. So I translated it too. Hope it helps. Keep loving :)

  • Thanks Shaky1996 for the Shyam help. Here's the corrected English translation of Urdu/Hindi lyrics; Night keeps on passing My lover (Shyam) did not arrive yet Can't fall asleep Shyam (her lover) forgot his own promise With lamp burning through night Radha (herself) is still awake Which other woman stopped your way? Which envious woman are you eying? Stomped by longing to be with you I am the crazy one in love This body and heart stays thirsty Water flows in the eyes
  • beautiful song, lata ji has jst put the life in this song by singing it.... its my all time favorite..... the feeling of the song not only touches the heart but also the soul......

  • Sorry for posting it twice... I tried to post it like separating the sentences but it seems Youtube comments technology sometimes works weird... anyways, hope you enjoy not only the video, audio but also the translation of these beautiful words which take my spirit so far away!!!

  • Here is the English translation of the Urdu/Hindi lyrics; Night keeps on passing Evening does not arrive Can't fall asleep Forgot the evening The promise of evening With lamp, Radha is awake Which other woman stopped your way? Which envious woman are you eying? Stomped by longing to be with you I am the crazy one in love This body and heart stays thirsty Water flows in the eyes
  • @aatayyab Dear you translated shyam (Krishna in particular, lover in general) as shaam (evening)

  • This is the English translation of the Hindi/Urdu lyrics. Pls. correct me if I have translated them in a wrong way. Thanks.... the actual lyrics were; rainaa beetee jaaye, shaam naa aaye

    nindeeyaa naa aaye

shaam ko bhoolaa, shaam kaa waadaa

    sang diye ke jaage raadhaa

    kis sautan ne rokee dagareeyaa

    kis bairan se laagee najareeyaa

    birahaa kee maaree paremadiwaanee

tan man pyaasaa aakhiyon mein paanee

  • Night keeps on passing Evening does not arrive Can't fall asleep Forgot the evening The promise of evening With lamp, Radha is awake Which other woman stopped your way? Which envious woman are you eying? Stomped by longing to be with you I am the crazy one in love This body and heart stays thirsty Water flows in the eyes
  • and she is god darn better than any of the silly katrinas, deepikas or priyankas...whether it was a bikini or a sari...sharmila has always managed to look graceful and that grace is reflected in her acting as well :)

  • @ nitro..no doubt that sanjeev kumar was a brilliant actor but in this song and in this movie no other actor could do justice to such role than rajesh khana..specially in this song he has shown the peak by performing a role of a rich but emotionally unsatisfied person....always love to see this song rather than just listening..and offcourse well sung by lata

  • Rajesh Khanna , Sharmila Tagore & lata Mangeshkar - these three makes this song unforgettable !!! The Best Song in indian history !!!!!!!!!!!!

  • And yes he was the king of romance but he wsn't limited to romantic roles, like most of the people think, on behalf of this you can watch his - NAMAK HARAM- without any romantic play except of few minutes with rekha , ANAND- even he had no heroin opposite to him,BAWARCHI - absolutely no romance ,ITTEFAQ- was completely a suspense thriller,AMARPREM was a sublime story of immortal love not a hollow romance SAFAR- entirely different story defining the uncertainity of life i,e called safar nAVTAAR

  • rajesh khanna is an actor who had shown his caliber upto those limits where only few can reach . watch her movies especially - AMAR PREM , AVISHKAR, ANAND, ARADHNA, DUSHMAN , and you ll come to know why he is called 1st superstar of indian cinema ;;'... definitely it was far better than that of srk n salllu n all AND >> contd.>>

  • Melody at its best. Rajesh khanna has indeed done some justice to this song. But if it had been Sanjeev kumar, he would have lived in the character.

Sanjeev kumar is most powerful in expressing subtle emotions,

  • Why compare? are not all o them assets we can all b proud of and cherish these beautiful moments.

  • sweet song

  • this song is so heartbreakingly beautiful... thank u lata jee u bring comfort to so many shattered hearts...

  • This song has a strange power... a power to make you cry in happiness... totally immersed in this melody of melodies.....

  • All audiophiles are folks who are sitting on the front row listening to Lata sing, just a few feet away. I suppose if Rajesh had a good audio system, he would have done the same :) unless he was after more than just the song. Very well sang and performed.

  • Lata's voice is like a flowing stream in this song

  • If possible, I would have been more intoxicated without the wine, Lata's voice is more than enough...

  • Kya aalap hai... brings tears to my eyes. Lataji gaa rahi ya amrit dhara bah rahi hai.

  • Comment removed

  • Lata Ji has shown here once again her versatility of voice, how she balanced her self with tunes its awesome experience to just hear that song

  • ultimate song!!!

  • Music and emotions at its purest form...........

  • Divine!

  • Can someone post that part of this song when Rajesh Khanna in his true blissfull ladhkadatey huay style says " Kya naam hai tumhara?"...... Sharmila jee replies "Radha..".... and Rajesh ji utters " Meera hona chahiye tha" the message is ....... ultimate devotion to ..... the beloved regardless. Any way it's worth noticing the ada again

  • @aron1601 Radha nahi...Pushpa....how can u forget the famous dialogue- "Pushpa, i hate tears!" :)

  • kya dard he iss geet me... lataji ka aawaz.. composition... sab kuch.. lafz phikhe padte hai kehne ko...

  • Time and tide waits for nobody. But the wording and rhythmical intensity of this song is bred with sublime devotion which crosses the social borders of rich and poor, man and woman, elitist and commoner. The sheer affection and fondness of an intoxicated person to listen to the song carries a mesmerizing effect for the audience, as well. Indeed some credit to Lata's voice, also.

  • if someone cant understand this song....... Well with all due respect " Ignorance is a bliss'' The song is almost devotional as it reveals a simple pleading like "meera" as an ideal....... If you know what I mean

    Jai

  • holiday dating site # lushfmlk.info #

  • hello, can anyone tell me if this is this Raag Lalit? sounds a little like Lalit but not quite, i am stumped.

  • i m wordless for the song, its just hurts my heart

  • bhakti hey meera

  • Looks like R D Burman has poured all his enormous musical genius into the music of this movie - Amar Prem. The man known more for his rock n roll numbers has shown how he can also create such lovely, "touchy" and melodious numbers. Great. Easwaran

  • theashvamegha who commented on dis vodeo is absolutely right ........ mai sochta tha ki sirf muje hi khans se nafrat hai

  • @ TheAshvamedha: you have psychologic-problem, i think... Rajish time is over, it time for new people, and if they are khans or not, dosnt matter idiot

  • pushpa i hate tears pushpa kuchh yaad aa gaya

  • i hate tears pushpa kuchh yaad aa gaya

  • the calmness in this song is so profound that it quenches the thirst of our souls ..

  • gaiye na ....... kyanaam hai... meera hona chahiye tha

  • Rajesh Khanna... look at him... very Handsome some....

  • Dont know how to describe what I feel about this song. I'm overwhelmed by a feeling of satisfaction, jaise kisi bhuke ko bhojan mil jaaye, wo bhi koi prem se parose!

  • it feels heavenly after hearing this song

  • Sharmila Tagore and Rajesh Khanna... fucking immortal.

    Amar Prem is right :).

  • Abe mujhe to laga ki ye AAAA lata tai nahi Rajesh Ga raha hai. Kaise muh kholke rakha hai.

  • l love both of them

  • And just see the movement all across the scale in microseconds for '' Sham na aaye'' at 2.58. Can any one else come up with such a marvel?

  • Marvelous song this.

  • Wow!!!!! dis song is so beautiful. every word so touchin...

  • past was combination perfections= actor+singer+musician+lyrics........today's loss sometimes actor is good, but no song....sometimes song is okay, but no lyrics.....sometimes no actor......what a loss...no wonder old is gold......i wonder if today will ever be tomorrow's gold....

  • Goosebumps. Wow.

  • amitabh is best

  • @rahkit84 True, but Rajesh was very good in romantic roles.

  • outstanding song one of the best

  • what a voice

  • Goddess of our Female singing talent........

  • awesome sone love u lata ji what a starting alap

  • Lata Mangeshkar is a great singer very less singer are like her nowdays!!!!!! Rajesh khanna is a superb actor!!!!!!

  • made me speechless..

  • wht a lovely song, amazing

  • The music and the acting back in the day were unbelievable,Almost every actor, man or a woman, were just fire.

  • The beauty of rag Lalit. It is a tough one to handle the note transitions. Besides, the music director has done a good job balancing the classicism with the requirements of popular music for a broad audience in a movie setting.

  • Absolutely true. Just a minor correction, I think it is Todi not Lalit.

  • ribandarcho:

You are right as well. My feeling is that the director wanted Lalit to show through prominently on a Todi type foundation. As we cant go into their heads to reveal the the thinking only guesses are possible. As we all know, film songs frequently use raga mixes for special effects on the mood of the scene etc.

  • Thanx, u r great becz without ur uploaded video I never feel how much I love her and how much she return me. Thanx again.

  • very nice classic song .......

  • 1:40 acting calibre of Madan Puri is awesome. idiot kapoors are nowhere in front of him :P

  • raina beeti jaye, shaam na aaye...

  • This song is so beautiful, and god wht a voice lataji has its just perfect, the variations & pitch. Sharmila looks gorgeous and I just love tht hurt expression at 3:00 its so awesome.

  • i lsten this song more than 1000 time..but still i want to listen this song more & more...can we say this thing about new songs no..never

  • 3:29 to 3:42 shows the acting calibre of rajesh, it appears that he is compleately lost in the song.idiot khans are nowhere in front of him.

  • Agree. No one sings like Muhammad Rafi.

  • Khans & acting ?!!

They are more like Advertise models !!

  • Thanks Guys !! :)

    A lovely song.....

    n lovely era of acting...

the last legened i have seen ..who is capable of doing realacting was Bachhan saab... that's it...

  • @TheAshvamedha Though I agree with comment completley, I would have to disagree with the Khan splurge, as Aamir Khan is one of the finest actors in the film industry. shah rukh, saif and salman are all crap as you said.

  • @TheAshvamedha all the khanz are great along with KAKA

  • Comment removed

  • @TheAshvamedha i agree with you accept aamir khan he has some talent the other two are jokers specially salman khan and his brothers

  • @overseeroflove I agree Aamir is the only Khan who can act, the rest are jokers

  • @sanamo86 go watch ek hasina thi, tere naam and my name is khan then we will talk

  • @TheAshvamedha I think among the Khans only Saif knows how to act and boy he acts realy realy well and he happens to be Sharmila's son. Shah rukh khan simply copies Rajesh Khanna though and fails miserably at it.

  • @babarahmed saif definitely has the sharmila advantage all her great acting genes were obviously passed on lol he said himself that he would love to have the song 'roop tera mastana' picturised on him and kareena once LOL

  • @babarahmed

Saif Ali has the voice of a shikhandi( EUNUCH).He behaves and acts as if he is neither male nor female.

  • good observation......

  • @TheAshvamedha You are absolutely right....

  • @TheAshvamedha i agree with u... i love that movie and songs, specially "KUCH TU LOG KAHIN GAY"

  • @TheAshvamedha why put down the khans listen music, acting everything changes with time if actors also change with time how is it their fault

  • @TheAshvamedha Daru lagakay to hum bhi rajesh khanna banjatay hain boss :)

jis ne pi nahe whisky kismat phoot gaye viski :D

  • @TheAshvamedha

    Agreed completely

Rajesh Kahanna although being a superstar, was an amazing actorrr

  • @TheAshvamedha Agree with you, Rajesh Khanna has really acted magnificently. The real Super Star unlike media made and self proclaimed badshahs and kings of today

  • @TheAshvamedha You sound like a hindu activist, its only acting, not curing cancer. There're more important careers in life than acting.

  • @fredfelosofar Why bring religion into this. Music and art has no religion. There may be other important professions, but acting and arts bring out a sensitive side in us, make us remember that we are feeling human beings rather than money making machines satisfying basic instincts. And those who do not like acting, do not have to watch acting and music videos.

  • @MrRagbag

On the contrary Music and Art originate from religion (Vedic scriptures). Everything is derivation from knowledge in the Vedas or simply concocted ignorance. Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Da Ni Sa are directly mentioned in Srimad-Bhagavatam if any of you cared to read it (written about 5000 years ago, but known well before that). The song is praise of Lord Krishna and the attachment of His devotees for Him although not purely presented as this movie mixes it with material world scenarios.

  • @RealKrishnaSoft well said

  • that is what makes rajesh khanna the real superstar, his acting and his style really unsurpassed.one of the greatest movie ever produced.

  • shaam ko bhoola shaam ka vada...

  • heavenlyyy !!! .. i feel lik crying listening to dis song !! 2:42 .. makes me go crazyyy !!! ... i love dis songgg !!! ...

  • 2:42....great taste dude

  • wow wh't a movie and really gud song yaar

  • dis is a touchy song yaa

  • beautiful song...

  • rajesh khanna s lukng handsome n ds song...

  • I have always said whenever R D BURMAN ALIAS PANCHAM called melody queen for his composition to sing THERE WAS SOMETHING SPECIAL like this song i recon it iz rheir BEST COMBINATION OF ALL TIME and the situation was also typical A prose was sitting alone and there was no one to listen her expect her family members

    03332604292

  • LATA JI RD BURMAN ZINDABAD words are shortened to praise this STUNNING melody 03332604292

  • rajesh u r number one in bollywood

  • Why life is so painful, why love is always tested. Such a romanticism in this songs, just feel like opening the soul and sing to the eternal love...good bless you all!!

  • will we ever equal that era of golden everything??

  • When listening to this song just close your eyes and let the words, sweet sad singing voice and music seep into your soul very deep and deep. story of my life. Thanks for sharing my friend. Nash from UK

  • Sharmila Tagore....Such a incredibly beautiful lady ! Her million dollar smile, her dimples, her silky hair and her beautiful eyes.. to die for, not to mention her seductive voice ! And when she blushes..oh my God ! She must've broken many hearts in her time. Not a day goes by, when I don't watch her song videos. And whenever she is on screen, I can't take my eyes off her. In case you've missed, I'm a great admirer of her. I've seen many of her pre 80's films. May God bless her ! ! Thank you.

  • ummm...sorry to burst your bubble but that's not Sharmila's seductive voice....its Lata's! :))

  • Awesome Songs. Movie is not that Gr8. Good for once. But all songs are awesome.

  • wat movie was this.

  • Amar Prem

  • top of all time classics!

  • ever green movie/song.

  • From the time of transistors, Lambreta Scooters and Chhya Geet at Vividh Bharti; this is one of the all time great song.

  • one of the best songs by lata

  • who can sing , give music like this these days , does any body knaow.

  • not a single guy

  • @shrijiji noboby can give this kind of music nowadays :(

  • @shrijiji i completely agree. everyone is obsessed with "love mera hit hit" to even realize what real music is or what real acting is. this is what bollywood was and look what it has become now...no lyrical depth, no real composition...just a money making business and exploiting our culture...i am sorry but "dance pe chance" are not real music!!!

  • always loved it.still do.

  • "Shaam ko bhoola Shaam ka vaada" wow. Millions of figures of speech in one line. Too good.

  • Shyam ko Bhoola Shaam ka vada...Awesome

  • I love this song! Please let me know what this line means?..TIA

  • MEANS

Evening is going away and you are not coming ting ting ting....sleep is not coming.. Anand Babu(Name) please come and you have come to this temple sshhhh. please sing. In the evening you forget evening's promise..

  • Another interpretation: "Shaam" is the name of Lord Krishna. "Shaam ka vada" is the promise the Lord Krishna gave to each of his 16,000 lovers that he will spend every night of his life with each one of them. "Shyam ko bhoola shaam ka vada" means that he forgot in the evening the promise that he will come that night.

  • "shaam" here does refer to Krishna. The second part of -shaam to bhoola shaam ka vaada - is - sung diye ke jaage raadha.

Why would raadha keep awake, if not for shyam?

  • Your name here looks like ravisankar and you do not know hindi.......

  • In this case I guess God Krishna is Rajesh Khanna....array nahi re.....;-)

  • What an extremely beautiful composition by Panchamda and immortal rendition in Lataji's immortal voice!! I have been listening since I was a kid and love this immensely like the other songs in this movie. Rajesh Khanna - superb acting. I wish Sharmila here looked like Sharmila in "Amanush" - Bengali version where Kishoreda is singing his immortal piece - the Bengali version of "Dil Aysa Kisine Mera tora" in Amanush in Hindi even though I know that the context was different.

    Thanks a lot.

  • what film?

  • Amar prem...it is a beautiful film..very sad but superb

  • thanx!

i remember watching it on star and seeing this song..the song attracted me alot and i liked it...so i watched a bit of the film and didn't get the chance to watch all of it.

    thanx again : )

  • AMAR PREM

  • i know
