Avinu Malkeinu is a Hebrew prayer associated with the Penitential Days from New Year to the Day of Atonement . The two invocations: "Our Father" and "Our King" are either placed together in corresponding sentences as in "Forgive us, Our Father, for we have sinned! Pardon us, Our King, for we have transgressed!" or simply combined into "Our Father! Our King! Reveal the glory of Thy kingdom to us speedily!"
I became an atheist earlier this year.... not by choice but its something that, upon hearing such inspiring tefilot ka zot.... I often wish I could undo.

The way the Iraeli people are behaving towards the Palestinians is disgraceful. If they want to keep the (questionable) legitimacy of their country intact as far as the wider world is concerned they would do well to stop treating the arab populations who's land they are occupying in a similar manner to the way the Jews were treated under the Nazi's. Its like history is repeating itself. Just because the Jews were persectued doesn't therefore to give them the right to persectute others.

@ skyggebjorn, this addition is evidence of the blindness that was put upon the Jewish people so that they should not see the truth. This was given by G-d because the truth first had to go out into the rest of the world so that G-d would not only be the G-d of Yisrael but of all the people of the earth. My friend, you are absolutely CORRECT! In my yrs of debating & discussing Islam, I have found muslims admit their "allah" has NO image & no true name xcept that of "allah".
YHWH-Elohim created us in His own IMAGE & LIKENESS as PROVED in Gen 1:26-27 & Gen 9:6
Any diety that is devoid of an image is most likely fake & consideration must be entertained that allah is a finite created figment of mans imagination;suggestably as Brahmi sanskrit from India 500 BC
The images have nothing to do with the prayer, very strange choice if you ask me. Babs has a beautiful voice and the prayer is deep and emotional but please change the images as they are insulting to Judaism.
i agree. the idea behind the images is a kind one, but Muslims and Jews certainly do not worship the same God. Jews reject Jesus as Messiah, and still wait for Him to come. Avinu Malkeinu is a profoundly Jewish prayer, and Jewish images would be more appropriate.
If you read the Info and what I have said earlier about this video, it's pointing to the idea that for better and for worse Jews, Muslims and Xians all claim to be Avrahamic faiths, and as such we all call G-d Our Father. Furthermore, this video is a comment on the conflict in the Middle East, between Jews and Muslims, Muslims and Xians and Xians and Jews - and as such we all NEED to listen to the words of this PRAYER:
And certainly say it with kavannah and honesty - in that regard we all need to do teshuvah
It's insulting to no faith - regardless of what I as a religious Jew think and feel about the faiths of Muslims and Xians, I acknowledge that in the treatment of "The Other" I have failed and am committing to make a change. After all that is what Yom Kippur and Teshuvah is all about.
Regardless of whether The Other is observant of the Law of Torah, I am, as a Jew, obligated to observe the Torah that says that the Law is one and the same for the Jew and for the Stranger, and in that regard Vayikra 19:18 is The Law and all the rest is Commentary, as Rabbi Hillel taught.
There is no other prayer like this one, that can unite hearts in looking up to the heavens and beg for G-d's mercy and blessings. Thank you for posting it.
@benmica: Actually - it is the Xians who do not serve the same G-d as the Jews and the Muslims - if we want to get testy about things - since Xians technically worship a dead human blasphemer, heretic and apostate as G-d - but since this video is about reconciliation and about acknowledging one's humanity in relation to G-d, let's not use the comments section for prejudiced and flaming statements. User benmica has been blocked, as have others, who made similar statements.
i'm with you on this one! definitely not servants to the same G-d! i like the song. i wonder who sings it. i'd like to buy the album... but in regards to the video, i think it's sacrilegious to think of muslims in the same category as jews and christians...
And Muslims are being persecuted by Christians and Jews, and Christians are being persecuted by Jews and Muslims - it all depends on from which point of view you are looking, where, when and why. The majority of Jews, Christians and Muslims don't think there is justification in their faith for this persecution, but the ones who do the persecution disagree.
Each of the religions acknowledge the God of Abraham - how ever they write his name - as their God, therefore they have the same God.
About the time of the formation of the Xian Church - a blessing was added: "Let there be no hope for slanderers, and let all wickedness perish in an instant. May all your enemies quickly be cut down, and may you soon in our day uproot, crush, cast down and humble the dominion of arrogance. Blessed are you, O Lord, who smashes enemies and humbles the arrogant." to weed out those Xians who wanted to spy on the Jews.
@Ketutar very wise thought but! humans with many variations of experiences and depth of emotional thoughts makes man not the best to be merciful to others not unlike themselves
"And he shall judge among the nations, and shall rebuke many people: and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more." Isaiah 2:4
kBarbra, well there's only ONE and she is fabulous.
Her rendition of Avinu Malkeinu is magnificent. However, the images of Christian and Mulims do not belong here as AVINU MALKEINU is strictrly Jewish !
Well, since Jews, Xians and Muslims are called the "Children of Avraham", and we all call G-d our Father, I feel that they can actually be seen together - in the name of reconciliation and of peace - it's one things to disagree on the matter of theology. We should still be able to agree on our shared humanity before G-d.
happy yum kipur? yum kipur its a day of praying for god to forgive us from all the bad things we made in the past year, maybe you wanted to say shana tova? (happy new year)?
I'm not jewish, but I love the Jewish culture and of course Jewish music, not like what Wagner said about Jewish Musicians, I believe they have wildly creative minds!! I like Felix Mendelssohn the best!
Every other day or so. I love thinking about the days when I was a little boy and my parents taking me to shul. I miss them so much. This song acts as a bond between them and me. That's why I cry every time I hear it.
Bickering aside, this video is absolutely beautiful. Hearing Streisand sing Avinu Malkeinu never fails to move me to tears, and the video you've created complements it beautifully.
You wish you could. Bigger people than you have tried, and we're still standing. The failure must leave a more bitter taste in your mouth than the anti-semitism does in mine.
I hope your son grows into a man, unlike his father.
Speak for yourself! This Gentile loves the Jewish God YHWH! He is Life, my Father, my King, my creator, my eternal salvation and abode. To Him belongs all Honor and Majesty and Glory! I am not worthy of His great love, but He is kind and gracious and loves me anyway! Praise Yah!
Guys, this is MY video - if you can't stop the religious bickering, you have completely missed the point of this video and should be ashamed of yourselves.
I am 57 years old. I've been going to services for the past 50 or so years. I've heard Avinu Malkeinu hundreds of times. Listening to Barbra's rendition made me cry like a child. When the choir sang I was shaking and sobbing. It reminded me of my parents, who are both deceased. I have NEVER been effected like that ever before in my life. The most beautiful version to the most beautiful prayer in Judaism. Thank you so much for sharing
You are completly wrong. This is a very moving rendition of a very important Jewish blessing. If you don't like it, your problem. Judiasm was here on earth before Jesus was even thought of.
Well the description says "An array of images representing Jewish, Muslim and Christian Prayer, Pointing to the idea that G-d is One and The Same for all of us..." So its far more ecumnenical in its purport than you think. Also Christians believe Jesus said "I Am" so therefore they believe he was around before this blessing was created
"If you don't like it, your problem." you won't last long on you tube if you get sniffy with everyone who disagrees with you!
"An array of images representing Jewish, Muslim and Christian Prayer, Pointing to the idea that G-d is One and The Same for all of us..." Our Father, Our King...
"Our Father Our King
Hear our prayer
We have sinned before Thee
Have compassion upon us and upon our children
Help us bring an end to pestilence, war, and famine
Cause all hate and oppression to vanish from the earth
The images are not contrasting Judaism, they rather affirm what Judaism is about.
The video was made as a comment to the war between Israel and Palestine, thus telling us that we have all sinned, we are all as guilty as the other and we all need forgiveness for what we have allowed our nations to do to our Peoples.
G-d is ONE, for us all. He is our Father. This video affirms that.

The images have nothing to do with the prayer, very strange choice if you ask me. Babs has a beautiful voice and the prayer is deep and emotional but please change the images as they are insulting to Judaism.
SkyeL3 2 years ago
i agree. the idea behind the images is a kind one, but Muslims and Jews certainly do not worship the same God. Jews reject Jesus as Messiah, and still wait for Him to come. Avinu Malkeinu is a profoundly Jewish prayer, and Jewish images would be more appropriate.
graceinmay 2 years ago
Skye and Graceinmay,
If you read the Info and what I have said earlier about this video, it's pointing to the idea that for better and for worse Jews, Muslims and Xians all claim to be Avrahamic faiths, and as such we all call G-d Our Father. Furthermore, this video is a comment on the conflict in the Middle East, between Jews and Muslims, Muslims and Xians and Xians and Jews - and as such we all NEED to listen to the words of this PRAYER:
skyggebjorn 2 years ago
"We have sinned before Thee
Have compassion upon us and upon our children
Help us bring an end to pestilence, war, and famine
Cause all hate and oppression to vanish from the earth
Inscribe us for blessing in the Book Of Life
Let the new year be a good year for us"
skyggebjorn 2 years ago
And certainly say it with kavannah and honesty - in that regard we all need to do teshuvah
It's insulting to no faith - regardless of what I as a religious Jew think and feel about the faiths of Muslims and Xians, I acknowledge that in the treatment of "The Other" I have failed and am committing to make a change. After all that is what Yom Kippur and Teshuvah is all about.
skyggebjorn 2 years ago 2
Regardless of whether The Other is observant of the Law of Torah, I am, as a Jew, obligated to observe the Torah that says that the Law is one and the same for the Jew and for the Stranger, and in that regard Vayikra 19:18 is The Law and all the rest is Commentary, as Rabbi Hillel taught.

Jesus would have been horrified to see this. He was born a Jew, lived as a Jew. He cried over Jerusalem.
He is a finger pointing to our Father in heaven. When Christians and Jews are persecuted by Muslims, most obviously they do not serve the same G-d.
benmica 2 years ago 3
@benmica: Actually - it is the Xians who do not serve the same G-d as the Jews and the Muslims - if we want to get testy about things - since Xians technically worship a dead human blasphemer, heretic and apostate as G-d - but since this video is about reconciliation and about acknowledging one's humanity in relation to G-d, let's not use the comments section for prejudiced and flaming statements. User benmica has been blocked, as have others, who made similar statements.

i'm with you on this one! definitely not servants to the same G-d! i like the song. i wonder who sings it. i'd like to buy the album... but in regards to the video, i think it's sacrilegious to think of muslims in the same category as jews and christians...
blabityblabblab 2 years ago

prinzeugen 2 years ago
And Muslims are being persecuted by Christians and Jews, and Christians are being persecuted by Jews and Muslims - it all depends on from which point of view you are looking, where, when and why. The majority of Jews, Christians and Muslims don't think there is justification in their faith for this persecution, but the ones who do the persecution disagree.
Each of the religions acknowledge the God of Abraham - how ever they write his name - as their God, therefore they have the same God.
Ketutar 2 years ago
when in the history of the world did jews persecute christians????!!!
anyothernickistaken 2 years ago 4
About the time of the formation of the Xian Church - a blessing was added: "Let there be no hope for slanderers, and let all wickedness perish in an instant. May all your enemies quickly be cut down, and may you soon in our day uproot, crush, cast down and humble the dominion of arrogance. Blessed are you, O Lord, who smashes enemies and humbles the arrogant." to weed out those Xians who wanted to spy on the Jews.
skyggebjorn 2 years ago
Added to the Amidah Prayer, that is. While it doesn't constitute persecution, it was aimed at the Xians.

Thank you so much for sharing

skyggebjorn 3 years ago
You are completly wrong. This is a very moving rendition of a very important Jewish blessing. If you don't like it, your problem. Judiasm was here on earth before Jesus was even thought of.
HUGHEY100 3 years ago
Well the description says "An array of images representing Jewish, Muslim and Christian Prayer, Pointing to the idea that G-d is One and The Same for all of us..." So its far more ecumnenical in its purport than you think. Also Christians believe Jesus said "I Am" so therefore they believe he was around before this blessing was created
"If you don't like it, your problem." you won't last long on you tube if you get sniffy with everyone who disagrees with you!

sorry to tell you
StephaneGrappelli 3 years ago
As I say in the description:
"An array of images representing Jewish, Muslim and Christian Prayer, Pointing to the idea that G-d is One and The Same for all of us..." Our Father, Our King...
"Our Father Our King
Hear our prayer
We have sinned before Thee
Have compassion upon us and upon our children
Help us bring an end to pestilence, war, and famine
Cause all hate and oppression to vanish from the earth
Inscribe us for blessing in the Book Of Life

skyggebjorn 3 years ago
The images are not contrasting Judaism, they rather affirm what Judaism is about.
The video was made as a comment to the war between Israel and Palestine, thus telling us that we have all sinned, we are all as guilty as the other and we all need forgiveness for what we have allowed our nations to do to our Peoples.
G-d is ONE, for us all. He is our Father. This video affirms that.
