Actually, as an Asian and as a martial artist...I kinda like this show. Okay, so he was a white guy, Bruce later broke through that a few years later (even though he was passed up for this.) The martial arts are sloppy (but so were many HK flicks from this time.)
Just wish the clothing was more accurate (Chinese martial artists wear shoes!) :-)
Still, the writing was pretty good, as was the cinematography.
@sabinoson Ed Spelman wrote Kung Fu in 1966, a new yorker who was studying kung fu at the time. He dreamed about being the only caucasian allowed into the shaolin monastery. So Bruce never fited into the casting as they where looking for a european guy. Jerry Thorpe recruted Carradine from broadway, the best actor he could find.
@DrNefarious545 It was an amazing series and I think Bruce would have taken it in a different direction, but one no less rich.I'm just glad that by all reports, the two men eventually became friendly.
Great show, especially in the way of characters, writing, and cinematography (unique camera angles and shots.) But as an Asian guy, my one gripe is...the costumes! The "Shaolin" robes don't look exactly "right" and often times in the show, the costumes and sets are a mix of Chinese and Japanese influences. Well, a minor gripe, I guess, coming from a cultural "purist." Still a great show. We'll miss David Carradine. He was a very good actor and in later years, a true fan of martial arts.
Keye Luke was a good actor. I liked when he was the voice of Brak in Space Ghost.

@AmericanPowerBase Actually, I have no problem with the soundtrack. It's generic Hollywood "oriental."

There is an LP record that was released at the same time as the TV show. It has this theme song on it and soundtrack music. Great theme.
