  • I couldn't wat to get in front of the television to watch this....and a dozen more from the 70' and 80's

  • The quality and sound is awsome !!!

  • I was in love of Michael Dougleas when I was 14 and watch the series. LOL

Can someone telll me who meade the music of the openning? I always liked that funky rithm.

  • @valmarisful

    Pat Williams.

  • Like that Malden head turn at 0:37 as if to say-Gotcha!

  • Holy @#$%!!!!!

That's the CLEAREST i've ever seen any 70's show.

    Nice.

  • Great show, bring back 1970`s & 80`s shows on U.K. free to air TV

  • poster, did you remake the video and apply the old audio track? or is this restored from the studio?

  • @MacGrurry i bought the dvd´s...it´s definitely restored,very high quality,same is "kojak"

  • Great guitar wah-wah...reminds me of Cheech & Chong's "Black Lassie" when Carl plays with his wah-wah...

  • man... it's almost impossible to find a good instrumental-only version of this opening that has the signature funky "wah-wah" (or "waka-waka-wow") guitar sounds. (from 0:07 or 0:08 onwards)

  • I think it was film entirely on location. Meaning no Hollywood studio, no filming in Canada or anywhere else. These days it is almost impossible to film on location due to permits and law suits of people who did not ask permission to be filmed. This is only my opinion.

  • @hughdern only your opinion? i guess then that never happened. stop being so damn PC .

  • @plutoplatters What's up with your post to hughdem? I think you totally misunderstood it for it was not a controversial post by him to elicit such a response. He was just merely stating what he thought. There was nothing "PC" about his comment. Yours comes off as being ignorant.

  • The picture and color are amazing!!! When was this restored?

  • David Soul plays Jim Martin, a bigoted Inspector who teams with Steve Keller to track down a young Mexican suspected of murder; Martin's hatred of Mexicans threatens to derail the investigation.

  • Big Al's was there in the 70's? They probably have all the same merchandise in stock

  • Happier days!

  • Wow. I liked that. Better than the miami vice intro. Only beaten by the Beastie Boys.

  • The Interns 1970

  • great sound, it`s just that I`m musician and if you listen close, the wah guitar is little late at start...then gets better

    I love C.M & М.D combo

  • Just think! Michael Douglas' wife was FIVE AT THE TIME!

  • Now I know where Freebie and The Bean got their material

  • I love this show I have it on DVD

  • Man, I love that guitar's banshee wail at 0:14

  • That music brings back fond memories of the 70's as a kid watching this show.

  • san francisco in the 70s >.>

how cool must that have been

born to late and on the worng part of the world. dammit :P

  • Who did the voiceover for the beginning credits? I miss that.

  • Used 2 watch the reruns back in 91'-92'

  • good lord, karl malden had a trunk and a half on him

  • This was a very good show. I used to watch it every week. It originally ran on ABC from Sept. 16, 1972 to June 23, 1977, first on Sat. nights, then later Thu.

  • OH THIS IS 60s and 70s sound at its best I WANT THIS GUITAR!!!!

  • Lt. Michael Stone ( Karl Malden ) Star # 871 SFPD RIP

  • One of the better jazzier upbeat themes. Back in LXXII there were some good ones.

Seems like S o SF was on more than once a week. I know Mom never missed an episode.

  • whats taking so long for season 3 to get released on DVD

  • This is my favorite version of this theme, with those sexy wa-ka-cha guitars at the beginning...it still gets me in the mood for an exciting episode.

  • @odantoro Do you know which episode had Maureen Mccormick on it.

  • ?-sorry

  • I looked it up on imdb(dot)com

Maureen appears in "No Minor Vices"; Season 5, Episode 5 from Nov 1976

  • This is the best version of the theme song. Completely psychotic. Eats other 70s cop show themes for breakfast.

  • Loved loved LOVED this show! I wish they would re-air this on Retro Television Network. I would so watch it again.

  • 1972 wow

This is the BEST version of the theme

  • Crusty old detective, young hip detective, good writing, acting...a classic

  • Wow! I just saw a Ford Pinto!!!!!

  • @dylansdad65 Quinn Martin shows used Ford Cars which was a corporate sponsor and product tie-in on all the series.

  • 3yrs before david soul became the iconic ken hutchinson.

  • @dooktango

And just a year before playing a vigilante SFPD cop...and Inspector Harry Callahan proving that "you guys don't have enough experience".

  • Robert Urich aka Dan Tana was also another "Rogue Cop" in the film Magnum Force

  • This is the BEST VERSION!!!!

  • The greatest theme of ANY show ever! The 1st season theme is the best. I loved this show. RIP Mr.Malden.You made the show!

  • R.I.P. Karl Malden.

  • Lt. Michael Stone. 10-42. end of tour or duty

  • @frankd1965 In the SFPD his off duty sign off with Steve keller would go something like , " Inspectors 8-1 to headquaters , 10-7OD . " The dispatcher would say , "Inspectors 8-1 , 1700 hours KMA 438 . "

  • R.I.P Kartoffelnase

  • Many years of injoyment came from this stand up, class act of a guy. Thanks Sir and rest well. His family must be very proud.......

  • RIP Karl ... God Bless

  • R.I.P. Karl Malden

  • When will Season 3 be released ?

  • Good question. Season three has episodes with Bill Bixby(A San Francisco native), John Davidson, Murray Hamilton, Luther Adler, Tony Lo Biano, Dean Stockwell, Brenda Vaccaro(Michael Douglas's old girlfriend)

  • @xxZaharoulaxx this year. check amazon for exact release date

  • episode was "Hall Of Mirrors" from 11/11/72 which has David Soul.

BTW Michael Glaser appeared in the episode "Bitter Wine" from 12/23/72

  • love the "travelogue" of San Francisco

  • There is nothing wrong with being gay - so SHUT UP!

  • bad call there

  • The great composer responsible for this piece was Patrick Williams, who's won a lot of different awards for his work over the years.

  • He did a record with the duke university big band played sax with them and wrote music for them when he was a student.

  • Agree with previous comment. Also, why is it that the composers of these fantastic TV show tunes are never credited for their great work? Back then it was probably considered almost standard musical craftsmanship but now these tunes seem like work of geniuses...

  • The absolutely very best wah-wah guitar I´ve ever heard.

    Does anyone know the musicans?

  • Pretty much, The Wrecking Crew did all the music for all the sixties and seventies shows, cartoons, etc, plus a lot of work for Tiajauna Brass, The Beach Boys, and countless other groups, but I think Henry Mancici's guys did this. I KNOW he wrote it. The guitar and drums are pretty sick, I agree!

  • No joke, the first season had the best arrangement of the theme in the intro. I understand why they'd change it from season to season, but wish they hadn't.

  • @Drumyyy

Tell me if u find out..

  • @Drumyyy The composer is Tom Scott.

  • @Drumyyy Patrick Williams composed the theme. He composed "The Bob Newhart Show" and "Lou Grant" themes as well.

  • @Drumyyy I wouldn't know about the name of the guitar player, but the music was composed by Patrick Williams.

  • @Drumyyy I hear you Drummy...love that wah wah. It was from my time . My son now writes and creates his own music and I am begging him to incorporate this unique sound.

  • This show and Hawaii Five-O were all pre-cursors for Miami Vice in terms of their intro credits showing various shots of their respective locales.
