Nothing about Joe sucks. There are no words because his songs stand alone just don't need them. You just have to be in a 'mood' to listen to him that all. He's one of the top all time guitar Gods. Yes guitarists know about Satch, but thats only because he does good guitar work. Pretty much all of his songs are solo's which anyone can do hence why he is not well known to all. No one wants to sit and listen to a solo all day with no words.

How can anyone compare the band Led Zeppelin to a solo artist which is Joe Satriani? Two completely different forms of music. Led Zep may be the greatest rock band of all time, yes. Joe Satriani as a solo guitarist is better than Jimmy Page. His technical work on guitar exceeds probably anyone else's skill; he was the first person to play like this, and his knowledge of every known possible chord, key, scale and mode makes him better. Just who the best ever is is just very subjective. Just what is your criteria? For some it is just how complex the playing is. For those - a fellow like Malmsteen would surely do it. For some it is tone - a case can be made for Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top. Some prefer blues or blues based rock and Stevie Ray Vaughn or Jimi Page would do it. Of course Hendrix would apply there. For me it is Zappa. Current crop- Warren Cuccurullo. Peace
