@ChrisVitchev I believe we can take the whole balance of Scripture and see that we cannot know specific dates but we are given "signs" and can discern the we are getting close.
In Matthew 16:3, Jesus rebuked Pharisees for not being able to "discern the signs of the times?"
Luke 19:44 shows Jesus rebuking Jerusalem for not knowing the "time of thy visitation" which was spelled out for them in Daniel 9:25-27.
With that said, we are also told we cannot know exact dates... (continued)
Matthew 25:13 says, "Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh."
Notice, we are told to, "Watch". So, obviously there is a need to "watch" and to know that the day is approaching.
But it also clearly says that it will never be a dead certain matter of dates and times for us. God has chosen not to allow men to have such exact information.
They ask of him saying lord....
He said onto them, it is not for you to know the times nor the seasons....
Does that mean, that there is no need to know, or we will not know?
