your books were good but all very recent--to get a better feel for the "roots" of china may i suggest 3 novels--
1. Family--by Pa Chin
2. Dream of the Red Chamber--by cao xueqin
3. The Good Earth--by pearl buck
also, simon winchester has written quite a few books on asia..all of which are pretty good....hes an englishman residing in USA who lives with or is married to by now a chinese woman....also hes learning mandarin.

If you are really into China, try "Mao's last dancer" by Li Cunxin.
I bet it will move you. It is a emotional book.

The Mao Zhedong book was a good recommendation.
The man was a snake and was ruthless in killing so many of his Chinese citizens.

Go watch! it is great.
I don't recommend you read that book about Mao, I have that book and it is absolutely untrue about Mao. It is really hard to explain.
Also, you can watch "long March" before you read that book, I think that would give you two sides of stories about Mao and Chinese civil war!

its the eyes, facial shape, and sometime skin &eyebrows.
