Maybe talking bad about others, make u guys feel better about urselfs, in that case spend more time training instead of trash talking and u WILL actually become better instead of just thinking your better
I read with interest all of the criticisms, especially the one on stance. Have you ever seen a person using a deep rooted stance in a real fight? stances are for training.
As far as this match being lame, I suggest that the person stating this might want to put his video on and allow us to see how an expert would do it.
@Danzainc: "Shotokan", "Goju Ryu", "Shito Ryu" and "Wado Ryu" have the same jiyu kumite (free sparring) mothods and rules. Therefore it is very difficult to recognise the style. All of this styles are only different in Kihon and Kata. Also the most tournaments are mixed.
@pelepone In most forms of sport karate rules, contestants are called aka (red) and shiro (white). Usually they are either wearing protection in their given colors, or they wear belts or tags with the color tied to their belts.
Here, shiro wear a white belt, and aka wears a red belt (although it looks orange).
Its just so that the referee and judges can differ them easily. Its not their grades.
@ImYnotplay Aka means red and shiro means white. Then someone thought of using those colors on the protective equipment to tell the fighters apart more easily. Later someone figured that white was not visual enough when wearing white DoGi´s,so they changed to blue.
However, they continue to use the term shiro=white, even when they wear blue gloves&protective equipment,
its just to mark the corner, probably both are high grades judgin by their technique.but they need a colour for the flags to judge..so one wears red & one wears white.ok
Some organisations give them white or red belts to determine which flag to raise if a the White belt, or Red belt scores a point, as you see at the corners of the rings, you'll see judges with a white and red flag on each hand.
In karate one competitor is called AKA (red) and the other SHIRO (white) -although some organizations has changed it to red and blue, instead of red and white.
Usually they wear gloves in "their" colors for the spectators to tell them apart. But sometimes, like in this case, they wear red&white belts instead.
u get orange belt after ur first gradeing, white belt. and u get red before yellow, tut tut. ur right bout him wearing the red belt though, they are both black belts so they use it 2 tell them apart for scoreing. dont try 2 argue bout the belts i practise shotokan. belt order. white orange red yellow green purple, purple one stripe. then brown then brown one stripe then brown 2 stripe the black
Introduced couple of years ago, comes before red belt. That way there are no 2 "white belt" grades, i.e. beginner and white belt. It goes White Belt (Kihon), Orange Belt (Shodan), Red Belt (Nidan)
The orange belt person opens his guard alot when he attks and it is easy to read him on what he going to do what attack with what side the white belt person should have owned him
This is how to train and not get mangled and disformed. Maybe it doesn't end in knockouts but it allows the participants to compete and enjoy their tournaments....and then go home without broken bones ( most of the time ).
@Ronin6575 I totally agree, and for who says that this doesn't help in a street fight think again... all you have to do to turn these techniques into deadly movements is to add some weights on the strikes = K.O
@Pierodatrieste You are correct...simply modify the techniques and actually make contact with them and they allow you to knock your opponent down or out. I have seen many accidental knockouts in the dojo so I know it is not difficult to stop an opponent if you are faster or have better timing that he has.
@dudueciab I would care to differ with you on that. Many of my colleagues and students in Shotokan have been tested on the street and have come out on top. It all depends on what you supplement your training with.
If all you do is train for tournaments, it will not be enough, but if you train in the true self defense aspects of karate and make it realistic, you have an advantage on the street.
@Ronin6575 u totally has a good point . i used to like kyokushin karate but its really brutal so i decided to join goju ryu . but kyokushin still rocks :) . i still watch their tournaments
@555hansy nothing wrong with goju ryu, and im a shotokan trained man. They use to work out across from us couple days a week-some sweet stuff with great breathing techniques
@fing85 It is not a orange belt, it is red. It is red (aka) contestant vs white (shiro) contestant. They are given the belts before the fight so the judges/referees tell them apart. It is pretty common -and a alternative to fasten a red strips on one of the contestants belt or giving them gloves in different colors. Sometime you see contestants wearing two belts, their competition designation belt (aka/shiro) and their own belt.
Whatever grade/color belts they have, they are not wearing them.
@cardemon There are many variations of sparring seen from different shotokan groups. Some stand there and move very little and strike and some like these , use footwork . Still others, employ takedowns and foot sweeps with their sparring....there is no set way that we all agree on. I say, use what is useful regardless of whether is is taught in your curriculum.
but they have white and red beltd and white gloves. in wkf they have red and blue belts and gloves, and in wkf they also hav shin and footprotectors red and blue
they have white and red belt on in kumite compatitions to tell them apart.. the red belt does not exist in shotokan.. 1-10 dan is all black and white is the lowest - the starter = 10 kyu..
Well, when they go back to making a Kumite what it is supposed to be instead of some lame ass attempt to be a spectators sport then we should care. However, since they will never do that out side of certain asian countries, move along nothing impressive to see here.
I have to say that okinawan / Japanese karate is MUCH BETTER than Korean karate (Tang soo do, Moo Duk Kwan). There is entirely to much emphasis on impractical techniques in korean martial arts.
All depends on the person. The majority of impractical techniques are only seen from XMA types and sport olympic types. Take a look at the average person who takes korean styles and the emphasis remains practically identical to okinawan/japanese styles. Which are the basics and good form. Im also sure the people who degrade the style are the people who watch instead of experience and see first hand.
agreed. some of the more modern korean martial arts are EXTREMELY impractical... but of course how effective it is depends on the practitioner. but if you want a practical korean art, look up hapkido :)
Shotokan is not a hard style karate, because is not full-contact, and no gedan geri and hiza geri allowed in kumite. but shotokan is a modern style of karate just like Kyokushin. The hardest style is still Kyokushin or kyokushin derived Enshin, Ashihara etc.
shokotan is more of an open art. its well rounded so you can go into other forms of fighting and still know what your doing. its also very easy to self teach yourself if your teacher leaves or something. I like it :D
You in the red belt, got to brush up on your basic techniques, i can see that you are very weak in both your punching and kicking and you waste too much energy and concentration while you jump around that much, This is a clear sign to your opponent that you are actually nervous. Train harder my friend
its callled freestyle stance. i only know this because i am red belt 3rd belt in my dojo and ive been there for 4 years. ive been on red belt for two years now. lol i dont know why but i attend to lessons alot now. grading comin up. lets hope i get through perform.
red and white(aka/shiro) belts are worn for competition, mainly for scoring. just like in boxing when the ring announcer yell "in the red/blue corner etc! etc!" some people are pathetic and just too dumb.
there is NO strongest fighting style thats the biggest pile of BULL ive heard its a matter of the fighter n how much trainin he put into it man ppl who got no clue sickens me
Yes, Shotokan Karate is one of the strongest karate styles. It is generally hard karate just like Kyokushin karate. But it can also be soft according to the technique used. All martial arts are the same. Only the student is stonger.
he controlled the fight easily? so he meant to lose? nah he flailed too much. white side was clearly the better sparrer (and no i dont think he bounced too much)
the red one controlled the fight? so he meant to lose? and idk about all you other people posting here, but shiro looked like a pretty competent sparrer to me. red side seemed to flail...
Shotokan is only stronger than taekwondo. And there is actually stronger and weaker styles (not only up the the fighter how strong he is) Shotokan is no fun without full contact. If a shotokan guy would enter a kyokushin tournament he would be beaten since he have no idea what pain is. But if a kyokushin guy would enter a shotokan tournament he would lose since he cant controll his movments. He would hurt somone. MMA would have no chance in a shotokan tournament.
i agree theres a lot of bullshit mma guys but there are some very good fighters that you can call professional athletes also. you should check out lyoto machida, he does shotokan and he competes in mma.
No he's not, red and white belts are worn during compeition kumite, it doesn't mean one is a red belt and the other a white belt. Both are probably black belts.
White AND red belts are worn during competition kumite. The colors are worn for scoring. You will notice the scorers sitting at the corner of the ring have a white and a red flag. When one fighter scores they stick out the colour of the fighter that scored the point. In this video the fighter in the white belt scored a kick to the face and scored. The "white" belt as you call him is a lot faster and appears more experienced than his oponent.
plus look how much they are bouncing and how the hands swing all over the place when they meet, these guys are new to fighting. We can both agree the last thing they should be doing is bouncing around the way they are right there.
The bouncing is an attempt to keep from being caught flat footed. It allows a fighter time to react and move more easy than just standing on one spot does.
You clearly have no idea what you are talking about.
Sorry but he's right, in WKF tournaments they have Blue and Red belts. They used to use white and Red as that is the traditional colours. Some styles wear a red and white belt over the black belt, some wear only the red and the fightter who is white has only his black.
Vladrad u are suck and suck my dick man this move is from competition if u will fight with shotokan man i think he kick ur uss and ir granda too or u escape fuck you
shotokan and shito ryu guys are prepared to receive kicks in the groin for your information, if the kick comes from a weaklin moron like ya they might not even feel it, by the time ya kick their groin you are dead already, or at least knocked out.
sorry but i think this was a sloppy match the guy in the red belt had sloppy basics the elbows went up and everything... not a good example of shotokan karate. the guy int eh white belt was alil better but he kept stepping back alil to much. and in my tournaments u lose points for that.
Your tournement suck then. In order to be proficent in any martial art you need to learn to stick and move if you stand in the one place you will get hurt. Dance around your oppent and strike when he least expects it will gain victory.
red vs white?????????????

Yes, Shotokan Karate is one of the strongest karate styles. It is generally hard karate just like Kyokushin karate. But it can also be soft according to the technique used. All martial arts are the same. Only the student is stonger.

Im brown belt 3rd que
and u need 2 no there stances are APPORLING!
the guy wearing white belt has no balance. The 1 in the red is by far better he controlled the fight easily
dennettman 4 years ago
he controlled the fight easily? so he meant to lose? nah he flailed too much. white side was clearly the better sparrer (and no i dont think he bounced too much)
trippy2themax 4 years ago
the red one controlled the fight? so he meant to lose? and idk about all you other people posting here, but shiro looked like a pretty competent sparrer to me. red side seemed to flail...

MMA would have no chance in a shotokan tournament.

i agree theres a lot of bullshit mma guys but there are some very good fighters that you can call professional athletes also. you should check out lyoto machida, he does shotokan and he competes in mma.

hes a white belt... take it easy.

No he's not, red and white belts are worn during compeition kumite, it doesn't mean one is a red belt and the other a white belt. Both are probably black belts.
cwm1 4 years ago
They are white belts you tool, and only Red belts are worn during kumite, one has the red belt around and the other has his regular white belt.
Sylvantes 4 years ago
White AND red belts are worn during competition kumite. The colors are worn for scoring. You will notice the scorers sitting at the corner of the ring have a white and a red flag. When one fighter scores they stick out the colour of the fighter that scored the point. In this video the fighter in the white belt scored a kick to the face and scored. The "white" belt as you call him is a lot faster and appears more experienced than his oponent.

plus look how much they are bouncing and how the hands swing all over the place when they meet, these guys are new to fighting. We can both agree the last thing they should be doing is bouncing around the way they are right there.
Sylvantes 4 years ago
The bouncing is an attempt to keep from being caught flat footed. It allows a fighter time to react and move more easy than just standing on one spot does.
You clearly have no idea what you are talking about.

Sorry but he's right, in WKF tournaments they have Blue and Red belts. They used to use white and Red as that is the traditional colours. Some styles wear a red and white belt over the black belt, some wear only the red and the fightter who is white has only his black.

shotokan and shito ryu guys are prepared to receive kicks in the groin for your information, if the kick comes from a weaklin moron like ya they might not even feel it, by the time ya kick their groin you are dead already, or at least knocked out.

sorry but i think this was a sloppy match the guy in the red belt had sloppy basics the elbows went up and everything... not a good example of shotokan karate. the guy int eh white belt was alil better but he kept stepping back alil to much. and in my tournaments u lose points for that.
AZNKC 4 years ago
Your tournement suck then. In order to be proficent in any martial art you need to learn to stick and move if you stand in the one place you will get hurt. Dance around your oppent and strike when he least expects it will gain victory.
