I am also a big fan and "contributing member of MPR" thanks to him! My favorite quote from him is "if it were up to Minnesotans to name Lake Superior, they would have called it 'Lake Not Too Bad'" .(without an exclamation point, of course) As an outsider, I think that this sentence nails the MN character to a tee!

I too enjoy this man. For me, he has been a ray of sunshine on my face. Reminding me of how what we call "the small things" in life are actually quite important. His talent for story telling and love of roots music is something that I will enjoy forever. I listen to the Prairie Home Companion every night as I go to sleep.

This man has been a hinge in my life, a wormhole thorough which I came to understand my father, my upbringing, my heritage. Anyone who doesn't "get" him simply doesn't share the same little details, the same bridges that those who do get him have crossed and shared. If nothing else, he is an awesome storyteller. Storytelling is an art.. an ancient and precious art that needs to be protected, respected, and preserved, no matter what the story. Gosh, I sure do love me some Garrison Keillor!

Proud to say that I'm from the area of "Lake Wobegon", MN. Out of all the years I had listened to Garrison Keillor and his stories of LW, it wasn't until his picture book, "In Search of Lake Wobegon", that I discovered that all the pictures are of my tiny 'map-dot' home town areas--all the areas that I grew up in and know so well, Central MN. My grandparents are even in a couple of the pictures!
