John showed Nelson in that 2nd match what strong was all about. On this night I think John could have beat Bresnin,Larret, and anyone else who wanted to step up to that table including Voevoda. He is 47 years old now and probably not up to his peak but what a wonderful individual. He could be world champion in the 98's well into his 60s.

Engin ranks 2006 John as the strongest the last 10 years followed by Alexey from 2004, then either Puskkar or Devon from 2011. So he thinks that John from 2006 would beat anyone even Alexey.

The Thing you have to remember too guys is that...Devon competes in an weight class with unlimited weight potential, whereas John is constantly gaining weight then losing weight which is hard to make consistent gains if at all. Devon can eat all day and train train train.
John can make improvements by leaps n bounds and 2006 definitely was his year! He had trouble with Devon back in 2004 but played, i'll repeat PLAYED with Devon at Mike Gould Classic in 2006. That video is available for any armtv member and really showcases John at his best imho.
@NolstalgiaFreek The 2006 version of Devon was much lighter and weaker than the 2008 version that beat Brzenk 6-0, and also the current version of Devon. Yes John Dominated Devon back then, but probably never again. Devon is too damn strong now.
I belive John was 70% when he faced Devon. I also think he thought he might be able to pull it off. Aftyer all a wounded Travis flashed Devon with a bad wrist in a posting top roll. John had to remember 2004 when he top rolled Devon easily then went into a hook with him and beat Devon in a harder match. I truely believe John will beat Devon when they meet up again. John won't be a soft 220 with a sore wrist next time. I think John comes in the heaviest ever 235+ and healthy. No humiliation again
Brzenk knew he was gonna lose i believe he said before his match with Devon that Devon is gonna kill him - John was not 100% in their matchup - But Devon has given him trouble even several years back when Devon wasnt really THAT good - Now Devon is a machine look what he did to Randall holding his press off like he did John will find it extremely difficult not saying he cant pull it off but it will be very tough - If anyone can do it its John but it will be such a war
The first match John top rolled Devon easily then went into a hook with him and Devon put up a fight. John won't hook him next match he will top roll him. As far as Randall goes John beat him when he was 198 and has never lost to him so don't be too impressed with that. So far outside of a wounded and out of shape John, Devon beat Travis who was hurt and even then Travis flashed him 2x-didn't get the ref call on the 2nd. and Ron Bath who John toys with at 230lbs. Things are not as they seem.
I agree but i think its really not feasible to talk about their matches few years back because they have all changed and gotten stronger since then. I think it's 50/50 could go either way depends on how hungry John is he should be totally charged up which i hope he is

I also think John at 230 lbs. in his Vendetta match with Denis Cyplenkov was likely a monster. I gained even more respect and admiration for Devon after seeing him hold Dave Randall's shoulder press, which I thought nobody could do!
IMO i think Brzenk can take it When they fought last John was out of shape with a hurt wrist and didnt at all motivated in any way looked like he was just there to make everyone happy in 2008 - Now seeing John dominate at the recent ROTN was something incredible in that form he could take Devon on for sure Devon is good but he was made to look human against Randall an OLD randall who still gave him hell and nullified his toproll - John beat Randall too when Randall was younger
Anyways we'll have to wait and see but if I had to put a dollar between John here/at his best at 230 vs. Devon, I would put the dollar on Devon if it was a best of 5 or 6. If they met each other in a tournament and were both fresh, just 1 match, I think I may put the dollar on Brzenk, but Devon is still improving. Next month he will compete at the Arnold Classic as well as the MIke Gould Classic! I expect him to win both but we'll see if anyone can slow him down (Brzenk and Goodridge at MGC)
@HandelandJ I agree i would expect Devon to win..but you mentioned Goodridge it would also depend on how good Goodridge is..though he is not at his peak i believe he has the credentials needed to beat DEvon - but he would have to work v.hard for it
@VeerGill my prediction is that Gary won't ever be as good as he once was and he won't stick around for very long, he'll be at the bottom of the top 10 if that, might be a good match for Tim Bresnan for the heavyweight UAC belt. Of course this is just my wild guess and I think it would be very awesome if Gary stuck around forever and was a beast again, and giving John and Devon good matches. It would be awesome to see him go to the Nemiroff Cup.

I agree with you. Denis also has a strong flopped wrist press if Devon takes his hand (Which I believe he would). But after seeing how much holding power Devon has (in his match with Dave Randall) I am not sure if Denis could beat him inside or not... it would be fun to see.
@VeerGill I heard today that Grzegorz Nowak will be competing at the Arnold, Denis (and Pushkar) destroyed him at Zloty, but he got 3rd and beat Genadi Kvikvinia pretty convincingly so we'll see how he does, it will give us an idea of where Denis is at. If he can slow down Devon at all then Denis and Pushkar would probably beat Devon at least in a single round tournament format.

He's obviously strong, but when you compare him to some of the other meatheads out there - it's his technique that gets him by. Strength alone won't get you very far..
I agree with u, but JB is very strong. He's also got a short forearm for his 6'2" height (more leverage). Some people are bigger but not necessarily stronger. Many other anatomical factors are involved in strength also. I think it's apparent here that he just holds his opponents without effort. Do you honestly think that's all technique. 20+ years of armwreslting builds the strength of your tendons and muscles to the point where you can apply tremendous levels of sidepressure, as he does.
No I agree with you. He is obviously strong, but technique plays an important factor too. I've seen him destroy so many guys who were twice his size, just because his technique was better. What I was trying to say that it's not all about strength, technique is important too.
Guys who are bigger are not necessarily stronger, once again. Other factors play a role in strength. 1) shorter arms (provide more leverage) 2) higher muscle density 3) type of muscle (type II fast twitch is for max strength) 3) oxidative capacity 4) tendon strength 4) oh..and good training for a long time. Muscle density slowly increases with time. Also, John Brzenk's hand is huge from what I hear. More potential strength can be applied with good technique, but 1st, you NEED the STRENGTH.
There is a difference between being big and being strong!! Just because someone is big with big biceps doesnt mean he is strong!..John would never be able to carry out those techniques if he didnt have the strength ot overhaul his opponents

Man, wish i were you. I just saw john armwrestle on espn 2 in the mohegan sun tournament. He lost the last match with Ron Bath. Wonder why? He competed in two weigth classes and also competed in left hand competition. B.T.W. he won the 198 lb class and the left handed. He beat Boboza and Cadorette and barely lost to Ron. Brzenk is the man.
I saw John In the recent kc arm tv tourney. He went against Mike Todd. Todd looked like he would destroy brzenk...but when they got up there it almost appeared than Brzenk was just playing with the guy. Brzenk was awesome and clearly the best arm wrestler in history. Mike Todd is good...real good...no question about that and for Brzenk to do what he did with him makes him almost humanoid.

IMO i think Brzenk can take it When they fought last John was out of shape with a hurt wrist and didnt at all motivated in any way looked like he was just there to make everyone happy in 2008 - Now seeing John dominate at the recent ROTN was something incredible in that form he could take Devon on for sure Devon is good but he was made to look human against Randall an OLD randall who still gave him hell and nullified his toproll - John beat Randall too when Randall was younger

Anyways we'll have to wait and see but if I had to put a dollar between John here/at his best at 230 vs. Devon, I would put the dollar on Devon if it was a best of 5 or 6. If they met each other in a tournament and were both fresh, just 1 match, I think I may put the dollar on Brzenk, but Devon is still improving. Next month he will compete at the Arnold Classic as well as the MIke Gould Classic! I expect him to win both but we'll see if anyone can slow him down (Brzenk and Goodridge at MGC)

@HandelandJ I agree i would expect Devon to win..but you mentioned Goodridge it would also depend on how good Goodridge is..though he is not at his peak i believe he has the credentials needed to beat DEvon - but he would have to work v.hard for it

@VeerGill my prediction is that Gary won't ever be as good as he once was and he won't stick around for very long, he'll be at the bottom of the top 10 if that, might be a good match for Tim Bresnan for the heavyweight UAC belt. Of course this is just my wild guess and I think it would be very awesome if Gary stuck around forever and was a beast again, and giving John and Devon good matches. It would be awesome to see him go to the Nemiroff Cup.

I agree with you. Denis also has a strong flopped wrist press if Devon takes his hand (Which I believe he would). But after seeing how much holding power Devon has (in his match with Dave Randall) I am not sure if Denis could beat him inside or not... it would be fun to see.

@VeerGill I heard today that Grzegorz Nowak will be competing at the Arnold, Denis (and Pushkar) destroyed him at Zloty, but he got 3rd and beat Genadi Kvikvinia pretty convincingly so we'll see how he does, it will give us an idea of where Denis is at. If he can slow down Devon at all then Denis and Pushkar would probably beat Devon at least in a single round tournament format.

Ppl might take me down here but i truely believe Brzenk can defeat Larratt Granted Larratt is amazing now - But Brzenk is incredible too especially when he's healthy and with weight - He can defeat Larratt but it won't be easy in short rounds Brzenk has a big chance in like the upcoming Mike Gould - Larrat is the favourite to win - But i'm pretty sure Brzenk will make like tough for him all depends how hungry Brzenk is and noway will it be a whitewash like in 2008

But Devon would beat Marcio just a easily as John did here, Marcio is close to Michael Todd's level and MT just isn't up there with John and Devon, he is close to Ron Bath but not quite as good and John played with Ron at the 2009 ROTN. Devon played with Ron in Manchester in 2007.

devon is like 70lbs heavier then john to, but besides that devon train for a long time specifically to beat john, if there is a rematch, you may see it go differently. John is to smart, i dont think devon will win another supermatch.

I agree with u, but JB is very strong. He's also got a short forearm for his 6'2" height (more leverage). Some people are bigger but not necessarily stronger. Many other anatomical factors are involved in strength also. I think it's apparent here that he just holds his opponents without effort. Do you honestly think that's all technique. 20+ years of armwreslting builds the strength of your tendons and muscles to the point where you can apply tremendous levels of sidepressure, as he does.

No I agree with you. He is obviously strong, but technique plays an important factor too. I've seen him destroy so many guys who were twice his size, just because his technique was better. What I was trying to say that it's not all about strength, technique is important too.

Guys who are bigger are not necessarily stronger, once again. Other factors play a role in strength. 1) shorter arms (provide more leverage) 2) higher muscle density 3) type of muscle (type II fast twitch is for max strength) 3) oxidative capacity 4) tendon strength 4) oh..and good training for a long time. Muscle density slowly increases with time. Also, John Brzenk's hand is huge from what I hear. More potential strength can be applied with good technique, but 1st, you NEED the STRENGTH.

IMO John is the better man, they were supposed to have a supermatch about now, but Alexey just kinda vanished, I guess he's too busy pursuing more olympic medals...as far as I know John only went against Alexey once, that was at Nemiroff 2004 right handed...John might have gone against Alexey before that, I don't know...steriods, I'm not sure...he's Alexey has never failed a drug test, but that doesn't mean too much...

Man, wish i were you. I just saw john armwrestle on espn 2 in the mohegan sun tournament. He lost the last match with Ron Bath. Wonder why? He competed in two weigth classes and also competed in left hand competition. B.T.W. he won the 198 lb class and the left handed. He beat Boboza and Cadorette and barely lost to Ron. Brzenk is the man.

I saw John In the recent kc arm tv tourney. He went against Mike Todd. Todd looked like he would destroy brzenk...but when they got up there it almost appeared than Brzenk was just playing with the guy. Brzenk was awesome and clearly the best arm wrestler in history. Mike Todd is good...real good...no question about that and for Brzenk to do what he did with him makes him almost humanoid.
