Lady Nancy is surely the Doyen of all jazz singers (female) alive today. And her version here is the 'classic' rendition. In live performance she has no equal - singers like Patricia Barber, Karrin Allyson and Roberta Gambarini are 'up-and-comings'. Nancy's body of work speaks for itself. Lets not forget the company of Cannonball Adderley; Chick Corea, Joe Henderson and other masters of jazz that have chosen to work with this jazz singer extraordinaire.
Gorgeous, souful & elegant, legendary Diva is something else live & magnificent clip is a gem...would be nice if Capitol or someone would release her great lp's from late 60's-70's...all masterpiece's & timeless...Bravo Nancy!!!
After numerous accolades and 3 Grammys, Nancy Wilson still has not gotten her due in the music biz. Recently Tony Bennett ran off a list of female singers he admired & considered important. Streisand, Ella, Lady Day, Sassy Vaughan, Dinah Washington, Aretha Franklin, Rosemary Clooney, Doris Day (eew!), but NO mention of Nancy.
Other important music biz heavies like Quincy Jones have failed to mention Nancy or worked with her during all these years, don't get it why she still gets the shaft.
My gut tells me that those guys DO in fact love her...Im sure they both know her very well. But that being said, I agree, that you dont immediately hear her mentioned in the same breath with some other vocalists that are ALWAYS mentioned. And I think a lot of it is due to Nancy not seeking any more attention than she deems necessary. She seems to be a woman of OVERWHELMING talent but she carries herself in a very understated way. Its just important that those who matter, know of her legend.
@MisterCrazyLegs , you nailed it.."OVERWHELMING talent but she carries herself in a very understated way". She is a jazz singer, never claimed to be Sarah Vaughn. What is great about Nancy is she was able to pull off R&B in a solid manner. Not many "jazz" singers of that era have done that. She is elegant now, in her youth she was hot! To her critics i say envy and jealousy are nothing new.
@shihlin1 I totally agree!!!! And the fact that she is overlooked is a terrible shame! Nancy Wilson is an American Treasure!! Nancy Wilson is the Gold Standard in a country that settle for plastic! She reins queen in my heart and in my music collection!! The more we post of her body of work, the more the current and future generations will get exposed to and appreciate Nancy's proper place in music history. I love seeing & hearing her early Nancy in her early years and her marvelous evolution
I've been listening to her since 1966 and she has remained brilliant, beautiful and oh so sexy. The female vocalists of today should study Nancy's classy, humble, gracious style.
If you haven't experienced her in concert you have trully missed a "Supernova". A shining star.
The fancy Miss Nancy, still brilliant after all these years. A singular artist with a singular vision and a unique talent. Still drop dead gorgeous too. And very appreciative of her loyal audience.
Thank you for posting this...it has been in my head for months. Memories from my childhood when I first met Nancy W. she is absolutely fantastic and combines regalness with down to earthness with ease
Gorgeous. GORGEOUS. Nancy's cool, sort of slurry delivery style is PERFECT for this melody. One of the best I've ever heard from her; I only wish they hadn't cut out the entire second verse.
Breathtaking !!

Gorgeous and classy. Anita Baker tends to have that relaxed, slurry sort of singing style as well and it works.

This is a unique tune and Nancy is sublime.
On a different subject, looking over the comments, I must say I also love June Christy.
T-H-E album is: "The Intimate Miss Christy"
It's era 1960 but is available remixed and remastered in 24-bit on CD on the Capitol Jazz label.

I was accustomed to listening to DOO WOP, strickly. Then I was forced to listen to Nancy in the Marine Barracks at Camp LeJeune.
Loved her ever since. Tried to find a wife that looked like her. I was really messed up.
