This may be trivial, but gay or straight Richard Chamberlain as the priest is ridiculously hot! I'm sorry but the only "Godly" thing he makes me think of when I see him is Oh My God the man is Hot. lol

Richard Chamberlain as Father de Briccassar was the best choice ever. No one could've played this role portraying the conflicting emotions between a man and priest. so effortlessly like Chamberlain. Truly a fabulous actor.
That being said, though, I think this is one of the few stories in which the movie version seemed better than the book. I loved Chamberlain. His performance is even more amazing if you consider the fact that he is gay.
The Thorn Birds seems like a cross between Gone With The Wind and The Scarlett Letter. Am I the only one who sees this??
In the book, Meghan was even described as having red hair and green eyes. Green Eyes! Like Scarlett O'Hara. Also, being raised on a farm, and a simple girl, and falling in love with a man she could not have.

Both Bryan and Rachel have not aged very well, yet Richard Chamberlain, a good twenty years older then both, still looks wonderful. It is good to see that Rachel and Bryan appear to have a great relationship though.....I like that they are still joking around with each other after so many years together.

And I just watched "The Missing Years" out of curiosity - having refused to see it for so long. I actually laughed my way through it. Poor Chamberlain is the only original actor left and cant seem to find the part of Father Ralph at all. The plot is horrible and Ralph just like lingers there with nothing to do. Fighting, telling Meggie he will stay with her... That was never ever his destiny. He never could find his one heartbreaking song and that is the real tragedy of his charachter. Awful.
A truly moving story that has affected my life. It aired the first time when I was about 12 and since then it has always lingered in my mind. Every scene is a tragic tribute to great actors breathing and painfully living love for each other in the most touching love story I ever knew. Chamberlain is magnificent and Father Ralph could not be witout him. Rachel Ward is so vulnerable she seems to break and fall apart despite considerable inner strength. The love story we all want to find?

@faketohma ughhhhh i knooooow, that part just kills me, Maggy is cruel to keep it from him for so long. I think the author of the story is a genius its a very touching story. i cry every time i watch it:-( Cant wait to go on a vocation to finally read the book too

nice song and great tribute. I remember when I usted to watch this movie in tv in dark comunist time I mean 80's years in Poland. I was a small kid but I fell in love in this movie. Rachel Ward was so pretty.

@teeger66 I agree with you, The Thorn Birds is my favorite movie. If you're considering reading the book again, then definitely watch the movie again. It is so worth the nearly 8 hours. I try to watch it once every year and I never get tired of it, it's beautiful!!!

@star4barry I always go back to reading the book...which is slightly different than the TV series...but both are great. I have the movie on VHS too and just watch parts of it..and you know which parts I watch! lol To me...its the ultimate love story...to love like that...and have love denied..and yet one time once...have your love fulfilled!
