"But hear, ye women, a word of Jehovah, And your ear receiveth a word of His mouth, And teach ye your daughters wailing, and each her neighbour lamentation." (Jeremiah 9:20, YLT)
It's the most amazing thing to see these women in concert! With each song they take to you to a different time...it's like you are transported to a whole different time and place! I absolutely love them and can't wait to go back and see them!
Interesting fact about this song -- words are same as "Guide me, O Great Redeemer", which was a musical selection at Princess Di's funeral. Check it out!!
This song makes me feel like the Ancestoral Matriarchs are surrounding me, hands held, instilling their strength and spirit into my soul. I really appreciate it!
I agree, its like the calling from back in the day, back during Jim Crow, slavery, the middle passage, and even future, letting us know that everything is going to be alright, cause God's got it all under control! Glad you got a blessing!
Brother!! Ever since Obama won I been feelin' some kind of way...I used to listen to SHIR for hours! My soul needed s'thing today so I looked them up! God bless you for posting. Last night I cried buckets of tears for my Dad who died tragically. Still miss him so. In light of what has happened in the US recently, I miss him more. Another noble Black man who loved his daughters much. I needed to hear this today - can't explain it. To salt and heal my soul. Thank and bless you...so much.
Stunning, stunning, stunning. This is more than soul music. This is THE SOUL!

Singing doesn't get much better than SHITR. Bluesy, gospel soul stirring. The epitome of Soul Music. The voices of Mother God, IMHO.

I picked up a copy of I Got Shoes when I was 14, fell in love with SHITR. So glad you posted this, I love really gritty bluesy gospel.
Also, I love this pic you used. Where did you get it? Can I have a copyof it for my desktop?

Im not sure if i have it anymore, but if I can find it, it's yours!

@jonesrsteven
There is not one note of blues in this entire version. Nor one bit of grit.

Guide me oh thou great Jehovah,
Pilgrim through this barren land,
I am weak but thou art strong,
am weak, but Thou art mighty;
Hold me with Thy powerful hand.
Bread of Heaven, Bread of Heaven,
Feed me till I want no more,
Bread of Heaven, Bread of Heaven,
Feed me till I want no more.

When I tread the verge of Jordan,
Bid my anxious fears subside;,
Sail me through the swelling Jordan,
And land me safe on Kingdom's side.
Songs of praises, songs of praises,
I will ever give to Thee.
Songs of praises, songs of praises,
I will ever give to Thee.
