  • @meme4ever1357 I think everyone that came here can't sing.

  • great vocal placements vary and your demonstration is very explanatory thanks

  • thanks steven seagal.

  • best tutorial for non-nasal singing ever! thanks man :)

  • Man, I wish I weren't hopeless cause

  • wtf

  • 14 people don't know how to yarn.

  • @aly1136 yawn -.-

  • Can you do that "aaaaah" in "ihhhhhhhh" without sounding "nasal" !!!!! God dammit this is a bad lesson for me. Anybody can do "ahhhhhhhhhhhhh"!

  • What if you WANT to sound like Axl Rose?

  • voice is way to cracked up --"

  • AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!

  • i not good at singin :(

  • lol! I might get in interview for a singing job! :D

  • hum...if we want to use the nasal sounds to ''humanize" the voice?

    Just like David Bowie(hoarse/nasal)...

hum...I don't know , I think lost the way again...

  • Do you think some people are born with a horrible voice? Because I've been trying everything, practicing every day, warm ups, lessons, and nothing works....

  • THUMBS UP IF YOU HAD TO TURN the VOLUME DOWN WHEN THAT GUY STARTED TO YELL

  • 1:07 Please oh please tell me how you can do the 'shivering' sound always at the end I mean it sometimes works suddenly with me and then I'm really happy but I like to learn how I always can use it. I can't explain what it is, but I always can do it at the very end of a thing but not suddenly and I like so hard to do. It's so hard to explain what I mean but I hope you understand me.

  • @ShugoxMelody I think you're talking about what's called vibrato. You can do that when you use your diaphragm to sing. How you do that exactly is beyond me, as I'm still learning too. :)

  • @MsHannaF Thxx lol I'm not good at the terms of singing but I can sing very well.

    Ok :) thxx

  • This is the first expert village video that has ever been good! About time,lol...

  • @DavinaFaerie

    ikr!

  • "'till it sounds stupid" ?????

  • no no no justin bieber needs that he s so fckin poor

  • @marin23091 fuck u hes so poor cause he gives his fuckin money 2 charity if u have a prob with him u can kiss my ass! i hate people that fuckin treat him like this!

  • so what about the sound "e" how do you make that more "whole" i see that first the lesson starts with having an "e" sound then gradually changing it to "ah" i doubt there is any way to eliminate the nasally sound when singing "e"

  • @elgdom3 No vowel requires any nasal quality... only m and n are nasal consonants. The dropping the jaw and loosening the throat. The soft palate must be raised in order to eliminate nasal sound. Some accents use a nasal sound on "e". Try the open sound of get. That should help.

  • @SorryItsMyBad i just hate people who come with stupidity, you clearly came here to find out how to sing, and because you probably cant, you felt the need to be rude in order to make your self feel better. asshole.

  • @samura25 bless your comment, haha.

  • how do u make ur voice less deep?

  • @DrDevilDD less deep? I got my voice less deep, sounds POP also. I did it by putting a bit of nasality to my singing. Easier singing high notes. But now, I felt the repercussions of doing so and having a hard time to sing with a wholesome voice. That's why i got here :)) A deep voice is wholesome and I miss that voice. don't try making it less deep. :| (bitter :( )

  • eeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaauuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuhhhhh

  • @RobRokken lmao i read this while he did it

  • TIP even though the bass increases up close on most mics when you "eat" a microphone you thin the sound of your voice and reduce your intelligibility especially on warm consonants because the sound coming from your nose is missing the mic. Example: When you sing N, ng or M most of the sound emanates from the nose.

  • practice

  • noel gallagher needs to pratice this.

  • @CafetaoSuicidal actually liam is the one with the nasal voice.

  • @zmz786 well, actually ACTUALLY, they both have nasal voices, but liam´s voice has a harsher edge to it, so to me, it masks the nasality of it. but i´m talking back in the day, i hear now his voice is kinda decadent.

  • @CafetaoSuicidal how is noels voice nasal?

  • @zmz786 apparently you seem to think nasal voice is more of a high tone squeaky voice. you can have nasal tones without sounding like a chipmunk or a bee. that´s how noel´s voice is nasal. but it´s a physical thing in his case.

  • I'm thinking about taking some singing lessons & looking at the free ones here on yt.Has anyone gotten anything out of this guys lessons or any of the other ones here on youtube?I see there are some tips but has anyone not been able to sing then watched these lessons, followed the advice & now they can sing? Please share with me your experience & recommend anyone you think is a really good teacher.

  • eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee....what's up doc?

  • @robertlewisvazquez Lol!!!! You made me laugh my ass out!!!

  • i eliminated the nasal PROBLEM a long time ago, but now i'm singing ska and reggae so I'm SUPPOSED to sing nasal and i cant! lol

  • I hate people with those annoying nasal sounds. How the hell did they develop those sounds?!??!

  • I've been trying to eliminate the nasal sound in my voice for a few weeks now. I've gotten advice from so many sources with advice that made little sense or that I couldn't understand, but your "polite yawn" worked instantly for me. I really appreciate that you give this free advice, thanks a lot =]

  • Mark Black is great, he was my Instructor for my 2 semesters of Music Theory when I was in Dallas. Great to see him on here. The man is a treasure chest of knowledge, he really knows what he's talking about. God bless you Mark!

  • actually, there is no such thing as "chest resonance"... unless you're a mummy... because resonance is the echoing of sound within space. there are 3 resonant chambers... the throat, the mouth and the nasal cavity. you cannot resonate in the chest - you will feel sympathetic vibration in the sternum, but not resonance. and you won't have resonance in your head either (unless you're a soprano - ha!)

  • billy, you are correct however when people say chest resonance or chest voice they're basically refering to the use of the abdomin muscles, namely, the diaphragm. This causes more vibration in the sternum and a more open, resonant sound results.

  • well, actually the abdominal muscles are used to support the adduction of the folds and sustain of the sounds we produce - but don't enhance or cause resonance either. And the diaphragm is an involuntary sheath of muscle which we do not control.

  • There is such a thing as chest resonance, it is a vibrating sensation felt in the chest. It is a type of resonance called conductive resonance (look it up), so you are partly right, partly wrong. Same goes for head resonance, and I'm a soprano, you cheeky monkey :)

  • Thanks for asking me to look it up...this is just one of many passages I found: "The chest is not an effective resonator. Although strong vibratory sensations may be experienced in the upper chest, and although numerous voice books refer to chest resonance, the chest, by virtue of its design and location, can make no significant contribution to the resonance system of the voice."

  • I agree with that last statement "the chest, by virtue...". The sound of the voice is modified by resonance in the air spaces above the larynx through which the air flows i.e. not the chest.. However the quote is misleading as it misses the point that the chest resonance that voice books talk about is the conductive variety.

  • haha same here

  • love your videos, at least you use humor=P

  • The chest is not a resonating chamber at all...those a merely sympathetic vibrations...

  • is this instructor a baritone or tenor?

  • sounds like an alien

  • this guy...is my favorite guy.

  • i cant hear the nasal sound in my voice so i dont know if it works or not

  • cool stuff

  • What does he mean by "drop your tongue"?

  • he means try to drop the back of your tongue as if you were yawning. try to get a "yawning feeling" as my teacher used to tell me

  • down against the bottom of your mouth. You want it out of the way of the air flow both in your throat and in your mouth.

  • your tongue should be on the bottom of your mouth, and the tip of your tongue should rest against the back of your bottom teeth, that's what he is doing in the video

  • Yep, just like at church :)

  • woah! that's awesome, but for some reason i like the nasal sound some artists has when they're singing..

  • Actually i just did this and it works!! im surprised i didnt think it would!

  • i get what he means. Our vocal coach used to make us do this a lot in high school choir. It really helps.

  • i understand the point lol it just sounds kinda funny lol but i really understand what he means :)

  • tru tru

  • this is a useful exercise for the beginner!good job mark!

  • i LIKE THIS GUY!

  • Dont do this exercise without a medical supervission! Please!

  • You are a modest person. Never complement yourself!!! Never!!! It's fkng weird!!!

  • ?Has anyone actually taken this guys advice? Give it a try right now. Helpful and entertaining.

  • he has a pony tail!!lol

  • just plug your nose and you wont have the problem.wait... dont listen to me i suck at singing!

  • Thanks for the tips.

  • Axl Rose uses a nasal sound on the song "Knocking on heavens door".

So nasal sound is used in music but if you don't want it then yawn yawn yawn

  • What the man is saying here is yawn yawn yawn before you start singing and this will open the back of your throat up allowing the air and sound come out your mouth instead of having the sound coming through your nasal passage. However many singers especially country use nasal sound

  • lol i know that irish guy..nasally like they have a cold.

  • someone plz send this to miley cyrus

    xD

  • hahah i agree with you :]]

  • AMEN!

  • amen to that brother

  • YES I WIN!!! HE does have the porno pony tail! YES! eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • lol like the comic book guy =]

  • I want his man scrunchie.

  • what do you mean sir? all the time i sing i adhould open my jaw open wide even in low notes or high notes?

  • sing more nazal when u sing low notes so u can sing louder but push ur soft pallet (the roof of ur mouth up when u sing 2 sing higher it creates a less nasal sound....make sense?

  • your stupid this vid taught me nothin

  • The nasal sound in the voice is when the velum, soft pallet, is lowered causing air to flow through both the nasal and oral passages. To fix this say the word, 'hung' and hold the 'ng' sound. This is the velum at its lowest point. Go from making an 'ng' sound to a hard 'gee',

  • you will notice that if you block your nose the sound is not altered, this means that the velum has been raised and no air is passing through the nose.

NEVER use the word 'tight' when singing it can be confused with 'contrict' which will make doing anything with the voice very hard, a nasal sound has nothing to do with the tounge so don't think about that.

  • does any one no how i can learn how to sing glam metal style

  • check out Robert Lunte and The Vocalist Studio... if thats not exactly what you're looking for then I dont think ull ever be satisfied...

  • this really helps me, thnx dude

  • ok whos idea was it to make them 2 minutes each and not number them?

  • what is that called when you sing and you hear your voice goin like squigilly. its hard to explain but can someone help me out on that?

  • verbrato

  • mkay, thank you.

  • You're welcome

  • oh no that one's called vibrato! i think yellowskygirlx3 misheard the word :P

  • thanks! u rock!

    xox.

  • Thank you, this really helps me. I experience SO MUCH tension.

  • when he said "too tight" I didn't think he was talking about their attitude, did you?

  • He was trying to be funny but it didnt work. He does seem a little nervous in the vid. He illustrates the principle hes communicating effectively however.

  • The concept is right but concept only will not help you guys:)

  • kaymarie u soooo rit...

    das sum bullshit !

  • wtf?????!?!? you are singing through your nose. i feel SO sorry for the people who actually believe this shit. please please do not listen to him. if you notice he has a very nasally sound, it's b.c he is singing out of his throat/nose and NOT out of his diaphragm! that puts strain on the voice and sounds like shit! ugh... i'm very disappointed with his videos. please make your tongue fat all the way through, it sounds so much better and puts less strain on the voice.
  • he is totally singing with his throat... 01:42

  • this really helps

    thanks a lot

  • that is shit!!!!

nooooooo you are not supposed to open your throat.

    Do not listen to him!

  • then what do you do?

  • you are supposed to lift your tongue and make it fat as you sing. take a quick breath though your nose and then focus on a widening hard pallet of your mouth.

it sounds different but believe me it is the technique used by great opera singers such as Marilyn Horne, Luciano Parvoratti, Birgit Nilsson and Anna Netrebko

  • That is rubbish. Never raise your tongue. Never make it fat.

Tongue must be down and loose and the pallet raised through the ahh sound. Holistic approach not a physical consious state.

  • Then what do u do??? omg, i'm totally confused.

  • Go to my videos and then go from video 1 to video 13 and I will add more videos later on. This guy does not know how to see or know what he talking about in the very least

  • thanks so much for this. it's articulate and easy to grasp!

  • You users know nothing about singing. He's singing "harmonics", where the sound is resonating in the throat. This is very hard to do. When you sing one note over another, you can hear two notes, sometimes a third!

  • Unless you are a specialist watch what you say. Dropping the toungue by force brings in physical aspects that do not need to be in place. Everything should be done on a holistic approach to the voice, you can not tell me he is doing that!
