  • continued - It's now called Christchurch, the church next door is where Potter was baptised, married, and his children too. This is life as I remember it as a child, my mum telling us to "Get out and play" and so we did, and the woods were ours to roam free in. Once we started school we were allowed to go to the beginning of the woods, but of course we did more than that, and our summer days meant we left home at maybe 10 in the morning and we might have returned by tea time.

  • This was classic Potter, I thought it was shot in the Forest of Dean, but if not it's certainly where the story takes place, the actors certainly doing their best to sound like Foresters, I lived opposite Berry Hill School, the school Dennis Potter attended, and where Pennies from Heaven filmed the school scenes .

  • Into my heart an air that kills From yon far country blows: What are those blue remembered hills, What spires, what farms are those? That is the Land of Lost Content, I see it shining plain, The happy highways where I went, And cannot come again.

  • @Seaventeares

    you're welcome:)

  • You are a star. Thanks for giving us all who remember this great Dennis Potter masterpiece another chance to see it. Great cast. it's just as good 30 years later. What was the location?.

  • Thank you very much:) It was in Dorset.

  • @LestradeOfTheYard Actually, it was set in Somerset. I'm also doing this for GCSE. Thanks for this! :-)

  • @TheSparkyboi14 As others have said, it's set in the Forest of Dean, where Potter grew up. (Although filmed in south London on Barnes Common!!) Otherwise why take the title from A. E. Houseman's poem 'Blue Remembered Hills', read by Potter himself at the end? (Houseman was, famously, from the Severn/Shropshire/Worcs area.) If you GCSE teacher told you Somerset maybe they should check their research.

  • @wolyak Devon

  • @wolyak Forest of dean to be exact

  • You are a star. Thanks for giving us all who remember this great Dennis Potter masterpiece another chance to see it. Great cast. it's just as good 30 years later. What was the location?.
