I absolutely agree. It is one of the most important books I've read in my life. It gives you a new way of looking at the past 50 or so years of US foreign policy - a way where everything makes sense and you can see the consistent aspects of our policies - in other words, what we REALLY care about.
Let us not forget that the people responsible for the economic destruction of Chile were all trained at the Chicago School. They wanted to have a place where they could test out their free market theories, & since free market reforms are unpopular with the the people, a dictatorship was needed. Chile was the gold standard for brutal repression for quite a while.
Now they realize any "help" we offer is just the thin edge of a wedge designed to exploit them, & they've rejected globalization.
america is unwelcomed in the latin american countries.. soon the entire world may practice the same sort of resentment.. i love the though but feel for the innocent american citizens.. the government is corrupt.
I agree with you. I'm studying sociology right now, and last semester we really went into detail about the neoconservative approach to countries like Venezuela and Bolivia. To sum it all up, it's pretty much that western capitalists haven't exploited them enough, and that their leaders are corrupt.
These people in charge don't care about getting rid of a population. They think of the average person as a cancer of the planet. We're all like a cheap toy from Wal-Mart -Easily replaced. They want endless wars. Order out of Chaos is the motto. It's a great form of population control from their point of view. Not only that, but they get to play toy soldiers, with real lives. There are some sick evil bastards pulling the strings.

Yeah, The Shock Doctrine is a good book. Another good one is The Squandering of America, by Robert Kuttner.
