  • i bought his alblum as a child could.Cause saw him on TV and loved this song.Sung so greatly.

  • this is why i loved him in High school and still do. what a voice!!

  • Sing a song ... sing a song of songs! Sing it out! Sing it strong! ♥ Yeah!

  • Ah, what a legend - like so many for that era - better and more genuine than some of the artificial "crap" played these days!! But then I am pushing 50 after all!! :-)

  • Stop Neil Diamond is one of the best

  • Best version of this song I have seen on the web. Tremendously compelling performance. Thanks for the great upload.

  • Back in the day.... there were singers who could sing. Most of today's singers scream or screech or yowl instead of singing. Listen to the singers of the 1940s and 1950s. And a few from the 1960s. Their voices were vocal instruments, played beautifully. It's so sad that today's youngsters almost never hear such glorious music. Yes, Neil Diamond is a legend, along with Johnny Cash and a few others.

  • living legend.....what a singer song writer

  • Hello Corpsemunger, There are thousands of musicians & singers, whom never get that special {15 min} spot light to shine upon them and their talent. I agree with you. That's was my point. Answering wisky2roxy. In my reply to you, from Mozart to Modern music. today, Adele regardless of her age, can sing, write and compose music. Music is what connects one heart and mind to sound and beat. I am not locked into a place of one type of music. Sounds like you are. Can we agree, Neil was/is great.

  • i was gonna try and make this my first song i learned to play till the 2 minute mark

  • Comment removed

  • I was 16-17-18 when Neil was on the world stage needless to say, these songs totally rock me and bring back so many memories!

  • Yes Vorlund ,I agree with you .He makes a beautiful noise that stays with us during our life.

  • Saving Silverman made me fall in love with Neil Diamond

  • Go Neil Diamond... grew up in the 70's and loved all his songs... truly all classics

  • Wow, he looks so babyfaced here. (I haven't watched a lot of Neil videos. Just listened to records.)

  • intense

  • What I can't understand is how can a man belt out such music live who also smokes cigarettes like a chimney!

  • Excellent song, nothing else needs to be said!

  • WOW! Simply amazing...

  • Dream of only you...Neil.

  • how the fuck could you dislike this?!?!

  • Awesome!!!!!

  • Speaking as a child of the 90's...I was brought up with the impression that Neil Diamond was a phony. I heard this song in the car listening to the oldies station one night, as I am inclined to do. It blew my mind. And continues to do so. I had to google "holly holy" to find out who it was... brilliant performance of a brilliant song by a brilliant performer in his prime.

  • classic,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

  • Unbelievable song writer. U2 covered Sweet Caroline and the entire stadium was singing. Incredible moment. Love ya Neil.

  • Still sounds has good as ever, wonderful version at the o2 in July,

  • God's troubadour

  • I'm still waiting... For the next superstar... No-one's out there? This is THE standard.

  • @eddied111 I tottaly agree with you! ND is THE BEST ever !

  • That looks like the girls from Abba at the :04 mark.

  • Come to bed eye's<3

  • Beautiful version of Holly holy!

  • YOU ARE IN THE SITUATION ROOM WITH LOU DOBBS. I miss you

  • I was weaned on neil diamond, and this is the best of the best. An awesome performance

  • i was born in 1975 and ive listend to neil since i was a baby. i love you neil you are a legned and you keep rising higher and higher. i loved you in the Jazz Singer.

  • This is so BEAUTIFUL! I was around 12 years old when I listened to this song the first time! You tube is the best thing in the WORLD!

  • So that's what powers those tiny little hairs on our arms ... electrified goosebumps.

  • Dnload the audio from this clip at tubepull doht cohm.

  • so magical, spiritual and awesome!

  • Every thing he does is a 'Beautiful noise'

  • RAMMSTEIN....if you DARE.....

  • There are no adjectives can describe the depth and musical potency of this piece of music.

  • @tyme4mike Perfectly understated!

  • Our HS band played a great version of this at the end of the game when we won when I played football back in the 70's. The song has a lot of energy.

  • A proven talent that needs no apologies for his body of work. A great poet and lyricist with a unique sound and this son, especially on Hot August Night shows him at is best.

  • Thank God for YouTube. We get to see stuff like this.

  • I think he sounds best towards the end of a tour when his voice is just a bit gruff. Not that he ever sound bad, Just that touch of roughness is the best of the best.

  • Awesome

  • Yes go ahead and make fun of Neil, Elvis, etc. Maybe in their later years they became a bit pretentious and comical. But truth is there is more talent in their snot than 99% of today's so-called "musicians"

  • @whisky2roxy...Can I get an Amen

  • @whisky2roxy lol lol lol ha ha you got that rght

  • @whisky2roxy You're wrong - 99% of todays musicians are truly talented... there is a 1% who are people like Justin Bieber ect.

There are thousands of brilliant Classical, Folk, Rock, Pop ect all over the world - you can't just take some of the worst people in the charts and think they are a microcosm of modern music.

In 1971 there was also a ton of crappy music around... but you only want to remember the best musicians.

Bias/vacuous logic - use your brain!

  • @corpsemunger

Hello, Your wrong ! I grew up in the 70's, I listened to FOLK, POP, ROCK, OPERETA ROCK, COUNTRY, CLASSICAL and some of the best dancing music-DISCO. MOST OF TODAY'S SINGERS ARE {singing} BUT HAVE NO TALENT JUST GIMMICK. ADELE IS ONE OF FEW THAT CAN HIT A NOTE & .KNOW HOW TO HOLD A NOTE & CARRY IT WITHOUT BACK UP, TRASHY DANCERS & YOUNG MEN AND WOMEN SHOWING THEIR EVERY BODY PART, TO DEFLECT FROM WHAT IS BEING SUNG BY A SINGER, THAT CAN'T SING. GAGA-Beiber included.

  • @dkfavs The fact that you class 'Adele' as one of the good singers shows you have absolutely no idea about modern music.

There are thousands of talented musicians - if you are looking at the top 40 then you are looking in the wrong place.

I assure you, you are being extremely close minded - you have no idea what you are talking about and you are embarrassing yourself due to your apparent stupidity.

  • @whisky2roxy

You tell them....whisky2roxy.....I grew up listening to Neil and also, Elton, Barbra, ELO,

Bee Gees, Creedence just to name a few talents, that are today GONE WITH THE WIND. Having said that, even the theme from GONE WITH THE WIND, had more brillance and masterpiece in music than the junk out today. GAGA GIMMICKS-Cheap Flashy Trash.

Adele, is a rare fresh talent, I wish her well, in todays music industry.

  • @whisky2roxy I didn't see a comment making fun of Neil and I don't think he has become pretentious in any way....have seen him several times in concert over the years and he always puts on an amazing show. But if anyone DID imply that or make fun of him (or Elvis who had a beautiful voice and charisma out the wazoo)we can just figure they are either Britney/Bieber fans or their mama dropped them on their head when they were a baby....or both....and feel sorry for them.

  • Yesterday I saw him in Rotterdam. He's still a great singer... Really one of the best warm and sexy voices!

  • God loves us all, but I believe he he must have loved Neil Diamond a little bit more because he sings like an angel.

  • wet to see him with a girlfriend in the 80's ( thought he was a chick artist) he blew me away. So talanted, come to think of it she was talanted also. Great artist

  • This would have to be my favourite Neil Diamond song of all time.

The live version from Hot August Night is totally awesome.

  • This song makes me melt!! It is so climactic! Not in a sexual way though. Just so much emotion. I love it. I LOVE NEIL DIAMOND.!~!!!!!

  • This song makes me melt!! It is so climactic! I love it. I LOVE NEIL DIAMOND.!~!!!!!

  • Amo Amo Amooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

  • why do u guys harp on a few dislikes? I dont get it--so what- comment on the great song!

  • Brilliant.

  • Who are the 8 people who didn't like this video? Get some rope!

  • He is sooo awesome...

  • Before the Jumpsuit days~ Awwww take me back!

  • LMFAOO @ 8 dislikes , must be Biber fans , yanno the young kid that is so good ...LOLOLOLOL What a joke

  • I would compare this performance/concert to Elvis in Hawaii. Everything seems to click here. Vocal, look, feel, background singers, and just the way it was filmed give it that perfect performance. Just on a smaller scale.

  • The best singer/songwriter ever!

  • This performance and this performance alone should have gotten him into the Rock and Roll Hall of fame.

  • yes this song is a feel good maker.Such a great singer.Cute too.

  • it just makes you feel good!

  • i was born in 1971 and he was hot then and hot still.

  • This one is you Dad....JC. - 9 Years and you are still the same to me. <3

One of the best singers EVER...

  • Comment removed

  • 1971. now, 40 years later, he still fills up venues.. A legend! That same distinctive voice...

  • Awesome!!!!!

  • felt like i got caught in a storm with nowhere to run and just have to wait it out. i think this is Neil's best

  • @metalreign1

That's a way of putting it allso, but I think I understand :-)

  • There will never be another Neil Diamond!!! What feeling and soul in every song!!!

  • Great song amazing singer and songwriter!!!

  • This man did not go bold. He had too much hair in the 70's Lol

  • i don't know... as the years went by neil's live version got so far away from the single release.. even this just after the release does the same. the 45 release is simply straight forward and powerful and speaks for itself without adding twists and vocal contortions. but, i have always liked his stuff.. but not live.

  • @tpmetp Dude your drunk

  • @akflights ... lol.. i knew i should not have made any innuendo of a negative comment about neil. when he hit the scene with 'i thank ... night time', i immediately became a fan. that was the summer after i graduated from h.s. i couldn't wait until the next single came out. everything he did was just great. and 'holly holy' was the prize song to me. obviously my fav song. i'm a fan of his music and i'm not drunk, lol. i simply prefer his studio recording over live performance. :)

  • Fire and passion

  • Er ist und bleibt ein wundervoller Musiker. Absolute Spitzenklasse!!!!

  • beautiful

  • Neil has been amazing and inspirational to me ever since I was 14 and he performed Live At the Greek - he' such an amazing inspiration and check out his website neildiamond . com and see how he donated a million to help hurricane victims. cheers and Re-Happy birthday to Neil - just turned the big - YOUNG 7-0!

  • Tree People! Are you still out there, Tree People? God bless you; I'm singing for you, too. Neil at the Greek, 1972 Unforgettable.

  • @KitJR50 You are SO RIGHT!!!!! Thank God for CD's and ipods because I wore out my vinyl of Hot August Night and Love at the Greek!!!!

  • I love this guys music, he's a little before my time. Did he write all his own stuff?

  • @2stankornot2stank yes he didhe has written like 500 songs, he has over 42 top 40 hits, rooted in rock n roll and folk style music. He goes in this yr into the rock n roll hall of fame. He is a icon of time tested hits that continues to grab people just like yourself, if there is a negative to neils career is he got off the rock map in the 80s and 90s and got a little soft. He came back and started writing and putting on the guitar again- He is in the top 10 ever in Writng IMO

  • @jabb69 I tottaly agree with you ! ND - the best singer ever !

  • @bibiflr amen

  • @2stankornot2stank

Yes he wrote the most songs himself

  • WOW - can this guy sing - brilliant

  • wonderful

  • Adorei esse video é muito romntiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiico.

  • You keep your Dylan... I'll take Neil. Anytime.

  • best best best

  • a great performance

  • I'm about to listen to one of the most fantastic artists ever doing one of the most fantastic songs ever, and a pop-up for "dating Chinese girls" appears at the bottom of the video. YouTube use to be a cool place to hang out but like all the other filth institutions in this sick world, it's turned itself into an advertisement for disgusting filth and garbage. Hey YOUTUBE? Get out of our faces. You're all scum. You screwed up our musical selections with WB and UMG for the sake of dirty money.

  • @tyme4mike How do you suppose something like you tube runs for free?

  • @pirateofthecarabiner I pay a monthy charge to access what's here. It's not advertising that bugs me. It's the genre of it allowed. C'mon, an ad about dating Chinese women at the beginning of a powerful piece of music with a gospel flare? Don't ask such questions before taking a few seconds to consider why I said what I did. It's a fair concern. Neil and most artists on here deserve better. Put an ad like that on some skateboard vid but putting it here is proof YouTube needs a brain cleanse.

  • Comment removed

  • @tyme4mike Fair enough, I don't know that the ads that pop up are particularily chosen to fit the content of the videos, Again it's a free service, I find stuff I thought I'd never find again. A pop up which I can close in an instant is a small price to pay.

  • master of the game.. perfect

  • OMG!!! He is sooo sexy. I love Neil Diamond and his music. This song is absolutely amazing.

  • Awsome! Simply Awsome!

  • Neil u r still sexy today. love ur voice forever

  • I definitely need a recording of this, video or other, for road trips or whenever...

  • Beiber and Gaga make me sick- this is music from an artist!

  • he was such a handsome guy. Hot as hell! and the voice is climaxic.

  • Love this song along with Ky Woman and Shiloh.I mustn't forget Cherry Cherry.

  • A very moving song, indeed~!!!

Todays stuff just stinks, thank you

Neil for giving us this great musical

    composition...

  • i want his hair

  • What a Performer...What a performance..Love it...

  • Love this song. Especially the DEEP BASS Piano on the record that makes it kinda unique.

  • sing it strong...

  • @MrJuanlennon--It is a plague sweeping the earth. The real plague is people like you who are ignorant, bigoted, and hateful. You are the hell that we are living in. We never made any choices. To say we were born this way, is lost on people like you. Even I wish you health and happiness, and never HIV or AIDS. My friend and I had broken up for 6 months. His behavior was to make sure I never got it.

  • He looks so young here..........he was young here. I think he looks a little like Tom Hanks in this. I love this song......one of my favorites. I saw him live in 2002. Wonderful performance.

  • just too hot!!!!

  • Very haunting song for me. My bf loved this song, and gave me a copy. He was a beautiful man. A swimmer on the SMU swim team. He became HIV positive, and he was a member of the SF Sheriff's Dept. He shot himself in the head. This plague has to be cured.

  • @tahoemack Correct behavior and responsible choices will cure your plague.

  • Saving Silverman.

  • This is Fantastic stuff, I think this is the 'Live' version that is on the 12 greatest hits Album, recorded for the BBC in concert maybe? not sure

  • Neil diamond, Gordon Lightfoot, Leonard Cohen,....the BEST!!!!!

  • esa cancion le gustaba ami padre ,que dios lo tenga en su santo seno ,pronto estaremos juntos padre

  • I don't care if this was recorded 17 years before I was born, he's still super sexy. I might go see him in March and I am SO EXCITED!!!! I will probably be one of the youngest people there, singing along knowing all the words, but I will also be the coolest kid in the city that night!

  • I love a guy with a big nose.

  • DOES THIS JUST MAKE YOU FEEL GREAT INSIDE, A REASON FOR THE FATHFUL TO LIVE AND GIVE THANKS

  • Fantastic

  • Wow, that was truly uplifting.

  • WHO NEEDS WORDS FOR THIS PERFORMANCE ?

    Joy.

  • Beautiful

  • Saving Silverman got me into Neil....the "yeahs' in this song still send shivers up my spine! LOVE IT!

  • @sdv0018 I hear ya dude..only thing I don't understand in this video is how reserved the BBC people are during this concert..this song was MADE to be screamed by the audience. I saw Neil live about 6 years ago and we almost tore the place down during this song...righteous rock!

  • @trunk516 at least on the album he does scream it!!! my husband sings and this is the last song he will sing because it so hard to sing it ruins his voic.

  • and I would still be married to him... ha!

  • I have this he did best. But record player broken. So now I hear it here.I thank you alot.

  • 69 and still the MAN!!

  • sagrado, sagrado..........

  • Nobody can match the skill this man has. He should have been in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame many years before now! What a voice

  • Youth tends to bring the passion and the emotions out, doesn't it....

  • Its about time this man got recognized by the RRHOF. His 1966-72 peak period was more R & R than quite a few of the acts currently there (Think Madonna, Abba, Grandmaster Flash, Percy Sledge, RUN-DMC, etc). Even entering his 70's he still draws enthusiastic crowds whereever he goes.

  • One singer with an unmistakable voice and style, when he sings a song ,, you KNOW it can be no one else

  • fucking wow

  • @robynilove PLEASE DONT SWEAR!!! U SOUND LIKE A BITCH WHEN U DO THAT!!!!!

  • I love this song....they don't write them like this nowadays....and people don't say "nowadays" anymore lol

  • Beautiful voice from Neil Diamond with Holy Holy [1971]

  • oh... those AM radio days. Didn't know what was coming .Such good memories with songs like these. Peace

  • Timeless... Neil you are truely gifted.

  • I remember a lot about Neil Diamond...

cause I had his album Neil Diamond Love At the Greek Theatre..

reminds me of my memories in secondary school early 80s..

  • This was some great stuff. Easy to forget Neil started a humble singer songwriter w/guitar!

There's still good music out there, but unless it's being promoted by the MTV/Rolling Stone Corporate Machine as officially approved as hip it can't buy promotion. Gotta look under the radar Mak Tub, Bare Naked Ladies, Cat Power, Incognito, Band of Heathens... Support local/indie artists folks & maybe we'll get organic music by real artists again!

    Peace music fans!

  • My absolute favorite song by Neil Diamond!

  • I gotta agree with ya tyme4mike, I'm old enough to remember when music was good

  • I am 38 years old now and i saw him in concert when i was about 8 in Louisville, Ky. I thought he was the king of music then as i still do today. You the man Neil!

  • After watching a show full of talentless hacks on the VMA's tonight, I had to rush back here and listen to some quality, not auto tuned, REAL music. Thanks, Neil, for being the timeless, professional artist that you are. :)

  • Would Diamond be his real name or stage name........

  • @chicka321 it is his real name---- neil leslie diamond--when I was young and saw his cover to hot august night I thought the guy was the king of the music world! he is damn good!

  • @chicka321 Real name.

  • Been doing a lot of reminiscing about the 70's recently. Loved this song and there will never be another like Neil Diamond :)

  • simply amazing... you cant compare this to 'modern music'

  • how could you dis like this?

  • As good as it gets, folks! 5 stars

  • A thousand years from now, no scratch that, thousands of years from now his songs will still be played and much of the stuff done today will not be heard in fifty years. Neil is just that amazing!

  • Neil Diamon touches my Soul deep within with Every Song he sings xoxoxo

  • como puede un voz tan bonita no ser tan famosa

  • A great song, a great performance, and a great video. Thank you for sharing it.
